W (3-0) 19/03/2022 - W6 vs Loddon 2 (A / L) A BEAUTIFULLY SUNNY SATURDAY! |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 19/03/2022 VS LODDON 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 19/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 19/03/2022 HEADLINE: A beautifully Sunny Saturday! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: Langley School RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: City were still buzzing after the news that they has secured promotion last weekend when they arrived at Langley School to play Loddon at 10am. The sun was shining, but City were prepared for a difficult game as Loddon were second in the table. City arrived with only 11 players after having their only sub drop out, but were glad to see that Loddon too had no subs. Both teams started strong with some good runs in the midfield. The speed of Esme and Scarlett coupled with the skill of Elle and Rosie meant that City had a fair few early chances at the Loddon goal. These opportunities were close but unfortunately, the Loddon keeper was very skilled. Another chance from Liz Hollis to Alice Brown saw the ball bounce off the lefthand post, but that was as close as City got. Loddon pushed back hard, attacking the City goal and forcing the majority of our midfield to track back to help defend. Some incredible defending from Sarah Sandell stopped the Loddon attack. City then launched a counteract and managed to get a short corner awarded. A good injection from Liz Hollis, to Elle at top D, then back to Liz saw City score the first goal of the game. The rest of the first half was very even with good opportunities on both sides. Luckily the strong defending of Sam and Millie kept bay the Loddon attack. Rosie Crane did amazingly taking the ball all the way from our defensive D into the Loddon D and switching the ball sublimely in midfield. When the whistle blew for half time, City were glad for the rest. As the second half started Loddon came back with a vengeance, desperate to even the score. They had some amazing shots at the City goal, with some going just wide of the left hand post. At one point Loddon did nearly score a goal, with the ball getting trapped under our GK Jo's foot. Luckily we have quite possibly the best GK on the planet and cool as a cucumber, she dealt with the situation and expertly kicked the ball out of the D to Elle who was waiting. Seeing our fantastic GK in action brought new strength to City's attacks. Esme and Scarlett had some amazing runs down the wing. Alice Hood was incredible in the top right hand corner, sending ball after ball into Loddons D. Elle Couzins picked up a ball on the outside of the D, had a shot which was going just wide of the left hand post. But luckily for her Alice Brown was there ready and waiting to tap the ball into the goal, scoring her 5th goal of the season!!!!!!! Energised after their second goal City attacked the Loddon D, again and again. Loddon now weren't so threatening and were having to pile into their own D to keep the attacks at bay. A good short corner lead to City's 3rd goal from Elle Couzins. Just before the final whistle Loddon had one more attempt at the City goal. But the formidable line up of Millie, Sarah, Rosie and Sam crushed any chance Loddon had of getting a goal. City were very proud of their 3-0 win against 2nd in the league. Everyone played amazingly. POTM went to Elle Couzins

WOMENS 6TH XI - 12/03/2022 VS BROADLAND 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 12/03/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 12/03/2022 HEADLINE: A Gorgeous March Saturday LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: A beautiful Saturday afternoon saw the Womens 6s take on the Broadland. We got off to a strong start with lots of good passes and lots of action in the attacking D. Many good opportunities for goals in the first quarter ultimately resulted in a great goal from Liz lifting the ball over the diving goalkeeper. Not long after, another opportunity struck and after a scuffle in the D a ball from Ellice pinged off the goalkeeper into the back of the goal. Throughout the game, there were many short corners awarded to us and they were taken nicely with good passing between players. In the second half, lots of great runs down the sidelines and more passing across the pitch which was great and led to a very structured progressing of the ball forwards and towards the goal. Despite the opposing team marking our players extremely closely, there was good movement from both the players and the ball. Also many good interceptions and turnovers from our defensive players. Ultimately it was another shortcorner that pushed us to our 3-0 win, with a fantastic assist from Alice and a great finish from Louisa! Overall, possession of the ball was with us and this game was well played with lots of great runs and passes. Well done all!

Norwich opened strong putting pressure on Magpies from the outset. Norwich dominated the first half with strong runs down both wings from Olivia and Alice Brown, playing a lovely passing game with Elle and Esme who also made some surging runs up the field. Although Magpies were dangerous on the break, Jo made some excellent saves and was well supported by powerful clearances from Rosie, Sarah, Sam and Alice P. Olivia opened the scoring on her debut for the 6’s, with a confident and powerful shot. Jules had several near attempts on goal, but Norwich City went into half-time 1-0 up. Alice Brown scored minutes into the second half, being perfected placed on the post to slot in an accurate pass from Esme, putting city 2-0 in the lead. Magpies weren’t deterred by the score line and seemed more dangerous in the second half. Sarah, Sam and Millie were reliable in defence and managed to prevent numerous attacks from some talented Magpies forwards. City almost made it 3-0 with a second powerful shot from Alice Brown, but it was just outside of the D.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 26/02/2022 VS DEREHAM 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 26/02/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 26/02/2022 HEADLINE: L6s Kept Up NCHC's Winning Streak LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 8-0 REPORT: It was a beautiful sunny day as L6s arrived at Taverham to play Dereham 5s. They were feeling the pressure after hearing that the L3s had won 7-0, the L5s had won 6-0 and that L7s had won 2-0. The game started well with some good passing between the midfielder. City very quickly entered Dereham's D being awarded a short corner. The ball was injected by Ellis to Louisa at Top D. Louisa then passed the ball back to Ellis who swept it into the bottom right-hand corner to make the score 1-0 to City. City used this goal as momentum attacking the Dereham goal relentlessly. A good shot was made by Alice Hood which bounced off the keepers pads to Ellis Couzins who once again put the ball in the goal. 2-0 City. The goals kept coming for City with goals being scored by Alice Hood and Alice Brown. Another amazing shot by Ellice very nearly found the goal but was deflected away. Finally Alice Brown scored one more goal just before half time, making the score 5-0 to City. Dereham came back after half time with just as much energy, making some good runs towards the City goal. But luckily for City any attempts were easily handled by Sarah, Niamh and Millie at the back. Rosie Crane held the middle of the pitch beautifully and allowed more goals to be scored. 2 goals for Louisa Sizeland and then finally a goal for Ellice. By the final whistle the score was 8-0 and it was a very good game for city. POTM was Ellis Couzins

W (2-1) 05/02/2022 - W6 vs Norwich Dragons 7 (H / L) A FIGHT FOR 1ST PLACE |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 05/02/2022 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 7 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 05/02/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 05/02/2022 HEADLINE: A Fight For 1st Place LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: City fought Dragons 7s for 1st place in the league at TRF. Both teams were filled with experienced players, and even before the game started, City knew that it was going to be a tough match. The first half started well with some good runs through the midfield and some strong attacks towards the Dragon's goal. However, the Dragon's were just as good making some dangerous runs towards the City goal, putting our GK Jo under pressure. Luckily for City Sarah Sandel proved just how much of an amazing defender she is, saving a ball right on the line. Towards the end of the first half Dragons were awarded a short corner. The strong City defenders managed to save the first attack but unfortunately could not stop the rebound. Just before the half time whistle, Dragons were up 0-1. Over the halftime break City put their heads together and listened to the wise words of their coach Ali. This was the first time City were losing in a game this season, but despite this, all the players came back harder after the break. City started the 2nd half well, avoiding the strong dragon defence with some good passing. Shortly into the 1st half City were awarded a short corner. Liz injected the ball to Ellis at top D who pulled the ball right to avoid the first runner. The first shot on goal was deflected by a Dragons stick, but the ball then fell to Liz at the left post. With full composure, Liz managed to scoop the ball over the keeper into the top right-hand corner of the goal. City were now equalised 1-1. Dragons continued to attack the City goal but having reorganised their defence during the halftime break City managed to keep them from having any shots at goal. Keeping up the momentum from their goal Lauren had an amazing run down the lefthand side of the pitch towards the Dragon's goal. She brilliantly managed to avoid the majority of the Dragon's defence and slide the ball perfectly to Liz who had another shot on goal. Unfortunately, this shot went just wide of the goal, but Alice Brown was in an amazing position to deflect the ball skillfully into the goal from the right post. City were so excited to take the lead making the score 2-1. For the rest of the game City mainly defended not giving the Dragons any more chances to attack the City goal. When the final whistle blew City couldn't believe it and were ecstatic that they had won, solidifying their place at top of the table. POTM went to Sarah for her amazing defending to keep City in the game.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 22/01/2022 VS WATTON 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 22/01/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 22/01/2022 HEADLINE: A definitive win as City 6s push for promotion LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 7-0 REPORT: The sun came out and Norwich City 6s brought their best game when they met Watton 3s at home. Watton started strong, moving the ball persistently into City’s danger areas but a series of early attacks were mopped up the home team’s defence. The visitors continued to challenge, but City soon found their momentum and began moving the ball neatly around with some great passes out of defence and into midfield. Marie Hood distributed the ball brilliantly from midfield, threading neat passes through to Ellis Couzins who skilfully moved them on into City’s attacking area. Some lovely runs on the right wing from Alice Hood and Louisa Rutley, with repeated and strong crosses in, eventually resulted in two goals by Liz Hollis. City’s confidence grew. The final few minutes of the first half saw an incredible and impressive solo run from Alice Hood who out skilled Watton’s defence and netted the ball neatly into the left hand corner of the goal. City headed into the break three nil up. A half-time talk from coach Ali Wardale suggested the team need to avoid resting on their laurels and work harder to cut out Watton’s out letting, which was breaking through into City’s danger area. The second half saw City ramp up the pressure and despite the goals mounting up for the home team, Watton continued to remain a challenging opponent with some strong work in their midfield. Louisa Rutley made some valuable runs on the right wing, connecting with Lauren O’Hanlon in right mid, who gave it her all and made some crucial runs and passes. Eventually, Louisa scored a great goal, tucking the ball in from the right. Both teams had goals disallowed from short corners – but despite the set back for City the goals continued to come and midfield began picking off most of Watton’s 16s. Mirha Kashif worked the ball into the D and found the net. Liz Hollis also scored another two goals, lifting the ball over the keeper. A definitive win for City which will help boost goal difference as they push for promotion.

Both teams played really well with some good runs from the midfield and great chances at goal. In the 1st half, the 6s had a few chances at goal with strikes from Lousia Rutley, Liz Hollis and Ellis Couzins narrowly missing the goal. There were also a few short corners awarded to the 6s but these were well defended by the 7s. Towards the end of the first half, 6s had another short corner. A straight strike from Liz Hollis was well defended by Jess (7s GK) but unluckily it fell for Ellis Couzins at the left post. Pulling the ball back to top D Liz had another strike and this time the ball hit a 7s foot before flying into the goal. It was an unlucky goal against the 7s that put the 6s 1 up. The 2nd half was very evenly matched with both sides having a few chances at goal. It was the strong defensive backbone of Sarah Sandell, Danielle Emerson and Niamh Rushton which prevented 7s from scoring. Towards the end of the match, 6s had a couple more chances but the 7s defended really well denying us the opportunity to score any more goals. The match ended 1-0 to L6s but both teams played amazingly.

NCHC womens 6’s were using a new formation which seemed to have a positive affective for a 2-0 finish and with very high possession too! The match started off very confidently with some very succinct passes and dribbles from the defence all the way to the attack. Lauren O’Hanlon, making some speedy runs down the middle, Esme Abbott along the right-wing and Ellis Couzins on the left. Despite the Magpies being very fast at seeing a space and going on the counter-attack, we had a very strong defensive line including Niamh Rushton making some incredible defensive manoeuvres and clearing it away any time it got near our goal. Due to our great attackers, we scored quickly making the score 1-0. Goal scored by Ellis Couzins. The second half began just as optimistically with very calm and controlled passing and several close chances at winning a fair few short corners. Many more fast and accurate runs from all of the midfield. Magpies had a fair few chances too, but these were cut out by Alice, Millie, Nimah and Sarah. In the middle of the 2nd half, Liz Hollis scored another amazing goal making the score 2-0 Norwich City. The rest of the game played out with equal amounts of possession on both sides and no more goals scored. Player of the match went to Esme Abbott for her incredible runs into the D.

City too had a fair number of chances. Some great runs down the right-hand wing by Esme Abbott and some beautiful chances on goal by Louisa Rutley however the Dragon's defence remained strong. On both sides there were some great runs for the midfield with end-to-end action. Towards the end of the half City had a few short corners awarded to them, with some excellent teamwork from Liz Hollis, Sarah Bird and Ellis Couzins, but unfortunately, the ball would not go in the goal. At halftime, the score was 0-0. After halftime Dragons came out even stronger, looking for the winning goal that would keep them top of the league. City’s defence was put under a lot of pressure in the 2nd half. The amazing defending of Niamh Rushton, Samantha Harvey and Danielle Emerson slowed the advancing Dragons, but it was some amazing saves by Joanne Di-Corpo that really kept City in the game. Defending some one-on-one’s, raised balls at goal and some incredible diving saves to the post. With only a couple of minutes left to go the score was still 0-0 and everyone was tiring, hoping to hang on to a well-deserved draw. The City midfield made one more attempt towards the goal with some lovely runs by Esther Hamilton and amazing skills on the left-wing by Scarlett Rhoades. With only 30 seconds left to go, Ellis Couzins received the ball at Top D. Surrounded by Dragons defence, she could not see where any of her City players were, and so attempted a reverse hit towards goal. Luckily for her Liz Hollis was waiting in front of the Dragons GK; desperate to keep up her streak as Womens 6s top goal scorer. A stroke of genesis by Liz Hollis deflected the raised ball into the back of the net, securing another win for City 1-0. POTM was given to our GK Joanne Di-Corpo, for a very well-deserved performance and for keeping City in the game so many times. A warm welcome was also extended to Scarlett Rhoades as this was her first game for Womens 6s. Her amazing stick skills and composure when she had the ball is a great assist to the team.

W (3-1) 25/09/2021 - W6 vs Norwich City 7 (A / L) CITY CLUBS BATTLE IT OUT IN THE HEAT |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 25/09/2021 VS NORWICH CITY 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 25/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 25/09/2021 HEADLINE: City Clubs Battle It Out In The Heat LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: The unexpected September heat, which saw the temperature top 22 degrees, made this mid-morning match tough for both teams. City 6s, in the club’s red away shirts, had most possession of the ball but were unable to find the net for that initial goal. A strong defensive effort from City 7s repelled most of several short corners awarded to the 6s. However, eventually Liz Hollis tucked a reverse stick shot into the left corner of the goal, just evading the keeper’s foot. A second goal followed from right midfielder Esme Abbott, bringing a fitting end to several impressive runs from halfway to the attacking D that earned her player of the match. The goal came after a baseline run by Esme, finished off with a powerful push to slot the ball into the far right hand corner of the net. The first half finished with the 6s two nil up. In the second half, the 7s fought hard to keep the 6s away from their net, with several notable saves from their goalie Jess Westbury. Finally, 6s right wing Louisa Sizeland managed to find space behind the keeper and slot in a third goal. By this time the sixes were flagging more than they usually would on match day, due to several players feeling under the weather because they were still recovering from the effects of a conventional cold that hit the team last week as we discovered that other viruses apart from covid are available! Another member of the team was struggling with the effects of asthma thanks to the unusually muggy heat. It felt like one of those matches where everybody is longing for the final whistle. The 7s continued to battle right to the end, winning a run of short corners and finally converting one into a goal to make the final score 1-3 to NCHC 6s.

W (9-0) 18/09/2021 - W6 vs Harleston Magpies 8 (H / L) A BRILLIANT 2ND HALF FOR CITY |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 18/09/2021 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 8 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: A Brilliant 2nd Half For City LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 9-0 REPORT: Magpies 8s came expecting to play a kicking back (a field-player allowed to use her feet to stop the ball to take the place of a goalkeeper). However, the umpires informed them that England Hockey rules now state this is no longer allowed. Without a goalie they were forced to play with 11 outfielders. This proved trickier than expected for City in the first half, with the patterns of play breaking down as the extra Magpies defender blocked attackers attempts on goal. The game seemed messy and uncomfortably chaotic and City couldn’t quite find their usual rhythm thanks to the overload of outfield Magpies players. Thanks to some powerful hits by their pivot player to young players high up the pitch, Magpies repeatedly gained ground into City’s defensive 25, forcing the home team’s defence to win back the ball safely with no threat towards our amazing Goalie. Finally, the first City goal arrived. A lovely square ball across the front of goal from Lauren O’Hanlon was deflected in by Liz Hollis and City went into the half time break 1 nil up. After the break, City settled to play their own game and worked out how to keep the play in the attacking 25 and score. Pressing high and piling yellow shirts into the D, Magpies found it hard to contain the home team. Once they had cracked the defence, City repeatedly found the back of the goal. Magpies remained in good spirits as City scored goal after goal. Midfield sent ball after ball into the D and a goal each came from Louisa Sizeland, Helen McCall, Lauren O’Hanlon and Emily Winter. Sarah Bird scored two lovely deflections and Liz Hollis scored a further two to complete a hat trick. Some strong midfield play was appreciated by teammates who voted Esther Hamilton and Emily Winter joint player of the match.
