WOMENS 5TH XI - 05/10/2024 VS BECCLES 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 05/10/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 05/10/2024 HEADLINE: Back on it at Beccles LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: A tougher match than the scoreline suggests The 5s dominated the first half, intercepting almost every Beccles clearance and holding the play in the attacking quarter. But a resilient home team repelled each City attack - despite repeated shots on goal and short corners. Finally, as the first half was almost over, a lovely ball in from Rose Byrne on the left was trapped by Liz Hollis on the edge of the D who netted it with a scoop shot which was just out of the reach of the keeper. It was a relief to have something to show for all the attacking play. In the second half the goals came beginning with a skilful tap in by Alice Petch after City moved the ball around in the attacking D. Next, Rose sent the ball to Amber Silvester who powered it towards the goal where it was deftly netted by centre forward Emma Suckling. Beccles fought hard and played to their strengths – long, hard hits and a knowledge of the sandy, slower pitch surface. Despite some great defending, Beccles managed to slip a ball into the City goal. However, a delighted city soon found the net again, however. Emma Suckling scored with a strike, then again from a short corner soon after – making for a hat trick and giving City a 5-1 victory. The scoreline makes it sound like a rout for City but it felt much tougher. A gritty Beccles battled to the end and looked at risk of scoring on the break throughout even though City dominated possession.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 21/09/2024 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 21/09/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 21/09/2024 HEADLINE: First of many? LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Sheringham RESULT: W 3-2 REPORT: We turned up to Sheringham with a brand new team following lots of movement this year. We knew the pitch was slow and the opposition were big hitters, so the aim was to move it around quickly with easy passes and to intercept the long balls. We started with good possession, moving it well and progressing up the pitch. We were the first to break and in 11 minutes we had the first goal. We began believing in ourselves. We settled in as a team and goal 2 followed. We would have been happy at that but we slotted in a 3rd and went in to half time like heroes. The opposition had gotten wise to us though, they chose to attack and you can't blame them. The ball went high in our D, the opposition got a weird touch on it and it arched over the keepers head and dropped in our goal. We still had it in hand though. Heads up, we got back to it. North Norfolk found the goal again! The score was too close for comfort. We played defensively, we soldiered through a terrifying 25 minutes and we held them off to the final whistle. Win 1 for the season... can we make it a streak?
