W (9-0) 08/02/2020 - W7 vs Norwich Dragons 8 (A / L) GOALS GALORE FOR CITY 7S |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 08/02/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 8 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 08/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 08/02/2020 HEADLINE: Goals Galore for City 7s LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons RESULT: Won 9-0 REPORT: City were fired up for an early start at Dragons and feeling positive for a win. The 7s had a strong start and Sarah Bird was able to put City 1-0 up in the first few minutes. Despite an organised and experienced Dragons defence, City kept the pressure on and some lovely play down the left of the pitch by Clare Clarke and Nicky Wardale led to Sarah B receiving the ball in the D and managing a reverse stick pass to a brilliantly positioned Helen Lewis who netted the second goal. Lauren O'Hanlon was superb in midfield and worked the ball fantastically up the pitch. After beating numerous Dragons players, Lauren had a great shot on goal that was just going wide before Sarah B was able to deflect it past the keeper. City were unable to convert a few short corners but showed definite improvement and know that this is an area of our game that we can continue to work on. The City midfield and defence were calm and composed on the ball and fended off any attacks from Dragons forwards. Sam, Rosie and Mirha were solid in midfield and fought hard constantly to be first to the ball and win back possession for City. Jan, Cat and Danielle worked brilliantly to defend well against a fast Dragons attack and distributed the ball back up the pitch fantastically. It was lovely to see the work that we have put in during training coming together on the pitch as City used the space and switched the ball around the pitch to push back up to attack the Dragons goal once again. Clare Clark had a brilliant game and was rewarded with a great goal from a fantastic strike at the top of the D that sailed past the Dragons keeper. City went into half time 4-0 up but under no illusions that they would need to work hard in the second half to maintain this. Dragons upped the intensity and put more pressure on City in the second half, but the defence worked well to deal with the Dragons forwards. A lovely second goal from Helen Lewis settled City and we were soon back on top of the game. Scarlett Rhoades made some fantastic runs down the wing and was very strong on the ball, beating the Dragons defence time after time. Three excellent goals in quick succession resulted in a much-deserved hat trick and Player of the Match for Scarlett. Well done!! City kept the pressure on and all credit to Dragons as they didn't give up and kept fighting hard. Another penetration into the D resulted in super calm and composed Nicky Wardale slotting the ball past the keeper from a great position on the post. Emily Robertshaw was unlucky not to score after some good positioning in the D. Our super GK Jo kept the team organised by shouting at us from the back and thankfully didn't have much too much to deal with in the game. A great game with a fantastic atmosphere and Dragons deserve a mention for their team spirit and for fighting for that game right until the final whistle.

W (2-1) 01/02/2020 - W7 vs Dereham 5 (A / L) A MUCH NEEDED WIN FOR CITY'S LADIES 7'S |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 01/02/2020 VS DEREHAM 5 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 01/02/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 01/02/2020 HEADLINE: A much needed win for City's Womens 7's LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: Due to illness & non-availability, the 7's fielded their mature team( apologies to those under 40!) against a youthful Dereham side. Helped along by Clare , Caitlin & Winnie from the 6's, they needed a win to break their losing streak. The first half saw City dominate play with the ball mainly in City's possession & half. There were a few failed attempts to convert the ball in the D despite some great passes through midfield by Chloe,Caitlin & Winnie . Winnie made some fabulous runs through Dereham's defence with such speed even the teenagers couldn't keep up by we failed to secure a goal. There were also some great runs up the wings by Nicky & Winnie as City switched the ball from side to side ( just like in training Nick !!) Finally the pressure paid off with a fabulous strike in the D from Helen L & we were 1:0 up. Spirits were high & our second goal came from Emily after a knock in from Helen L. 2:0 to us going into half-time. The half-time speech was mainly to try & calm us down & we all promised to try & get back & fill-in some of the holes in defence that Helen M ( GK) could see. We started off fairly well in the second half but our older legs were tiring. Dereham seemed to have short corner after short corner but failed to convert. This spurred them on & they applied plenty of pressure on our defence but Clare,Jan,Sam & Danielle held tight with some fabulous defending. Some scrappy play by them in their D nearly led to a goal but Helen M in goal was a superstar & kicked the ball out.Eventually as we tired they did mange to pull one back after some more scrappy play in the D. Determined not to throw away our lead we all tried to defend with only Birdy & Nicky hanging forward for the lose ball in case we manged to get it up to them. This nearly paid off on several occasions with Birdy & Nicky both having near misses. However the final score stood at 2:1 YAY !! Well deserved POTM to Helen L who had to ask to come off just before half-time ( unheard of before ) but she had worked like a Trojan for those 2 goals & needed a breather!! Closely followed second place POTM Helen M in goal ( who is proving quite the GK) & Winnie for her unbound less energy Bring on next week .......

L (1-2) 11/01/2020 - W7 vs Pelicans 4 (H / L) MAYBE IF THERE HAD BEEN A THIRD HALF.......... |

WOMENS 7TH XI - 11/01/2020 VS PELICANS 4 (H) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 11/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 11/01/2020 HEADLINE: MAYBE IF THERE HAD BEEN A THIRD HALF.......... LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: The womens 7's took a while to wake up on the lovely crisp morning this Saturday. Unfortunately an early goal from their top scorer Helen Lewis was disallowed due to it coming off a foot & then they didn't really find their momentum again in the first half. Pelicans managed to score shortly after leaving City trailing 1:0 at half-time However, after a motivational team talk at half-time by captain Sarah Bird & several jelly babies or vegetarian-option sweets we came back out fighting only to concede a fantastic goal by Pelicans early on which even fantastic keeper Jo couldn't do anything about. Boo !! But we then held strong in mid-field with Chloe & Sam putting in a sterling effort as RH & CH between them ( Sam playing CH for the first time ) Both were contenders for POTM which was closely fought between them with Chloe just pipping Sam to it. There was some fantastic passing of the ball between players Jan,Cat & Danielle at the back & some fantastic runs up the wings with Scarlett, Millie , Helen M & Nicky on fire. The forwards kept applying the pressure with newcomer Lauren having some near misses & also Emily narrowly missing out on the score card. Eventually our efforts payed off with a gap in the Pelicans defence & a pass into the D & well orchestrated finish by captain Sarah Bird to give us a goal back. Unfortunately we then failed to convert a couple of shorts so that the match finished with city 2:1 down It was a great team effort as always & I think if we had had just a little longer......................................................well who knows anything could have happened Well done Chloe on her POTM & to Sam close second.

D (3-3) 04/01/2020 - W7 vs Harleston Magpies 8 (A / L) A TOUGH BUT ENJOYABLE GAME TO START THE YEAR! |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 04/01/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 8 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 04/01/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 04/01/2020 HEADLINE: A Tough But Enjoyable Game To Start The Year! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 3-3 REPORT: A trip to Harleston Magpies on a cold January morning felt like a shock to the system after the Christmas break but City 7s started the game the stronger team. Some excellent runs from midfield and strong balls through to the forwards resulted in City putting a lot of pressure on the Magpies defence. Some great movement of the ball resulted in a fantastic pass from Sarah Smith to Sarah Bird in the D who slotted the ball past the keeper to put City 7s 1-0 up. This spurred Magpies on and they upped their game, scoring an equaliser just before half time. City started the second half the stronger team again and Emily Robertshaw and Alex Woods scored two goals in quick succession to give City the lead. Unfortunately, as City tired, Magpies upped their game again and scored two more goals bringing the scores level at 3-3. A tough but enjoyable game was a great start to the New Year and a very positive performance from City 7s was great to see. POTM Sarah Smith closely followed by Lauren O'Hanlon who had a fantastic debut game.

A great strike from a short corner by Alex Woods put City ahead and a sneaky deflection from Sarah Bird doubled the lead. Carrow managed to score and looked dangerously close to equalising on a few occasions but City defended well and worked fantastically as a team to keep Carrow at bay. POTM Sarah Smith

D (0-0) 09/11/2019 - W7 vs UEA 4 (A / L) CITY FRUSTRATED BY MISSED CHANCES |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 09/11/2019 VS UEA 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: City Frustrated By Missed Chances LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: UEA RESULT: 0-0 REPORT: City 7s were frustrated by a 0-0 draw against a much improved UEA 4s team. City defended fantastically to keep the UEA forwards at bay and a great performance in goal from outfield player Helen McCall secured the clean sheet. The City midfield and forwards worked well to keep pushing the ball up the pitch and had regular penetrations into the D. Frustratingly, despite many chances, City were unable to find the back of the net. There were lots of positives to take from the game and if City keep working hard then the goals will come. POTM Emily Winter

L (0-3) 05/10/2019 - W7 vs Harleston Magpies 7 (A / L) UNLUCKY DEFEAT FOR CITY 7'S |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 05/10/2019 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 05/10/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 05/10/2019 HEADLINE: Unlucky Defeat for City 7's LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston Magpies (A) RESULT: 3-0 Loss REPORT: City W7's suffered a 3-0 loss to Magpies 7's but the score did not reflect the balance of play. The first half was fairly even with City enjoying some good passing and forays, particularly down the flanks. One attack resulted in a rare penalty flick, which despite a good effort, wasn't converted. In the second half more good City interplay resulted in the 7's dominating possession in the early stages having several consecutive penalty corners. However, stout defending from Magpies, with some fresher legs, put away their chances clinically. Despite the loss the 7's were pleased with the quality of their performance and have more positive progress to build from. POTM was Emily Winter.

---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 28/09/2019 VS WATTON 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 28/09/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 28/09/2019 HEADLINE: A Frustrating Loss LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1-0 (L) REPORT: After last weeks excellent win over Pelicans, City 7's suffered a frustrating loss to Watton. City had the better of the opening exchanges but then a youthful Watton team found their feet and went ahead after some persistent play in and around the 'D'. After the break City upped the intensity and dominated possession but despite numerous chances and several close calls, could not get the equaliser. The 7's continue their tradition of bringing new players through into playing regularly and this match, although frustrating, was more good experience for several new members. Alex Woods was POTM.
