D (1-1) 10/04/2021 - W6 vs Broadland 3 (H / F) A SUCCESSFUL RETURN TO HOCKEY |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 10/04/2021 VS BROADLAND 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 10/04/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 10/04/2021 HEADLINE: A successful return to hockey LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT:1-1 REPORT: The womens 6's were keen to get into playing a game after the long break due to lockdown from Christmas and showed that there was no cobwebs to dust off. We had a lot of opportunities in attack but our first and only goal came from a short corner. This was won but Louisa Sizeland who displayed great stick control by taking advantage of a ball we all thought would be going off the back and getting it on the oppositions foot. The first wave of the short corner hit the post to be deflected back into play and controlled by Esther Hamilton who passed to Ellis Couzins for a great finish. Defense were hard pressed at points but with Kim Moore helping out this game we managed to prevent all attacks (bar the last short corner played in the closing seconds of the game). She earned herself POTM with great control and vision, helping us work a wider pitch and use the transverse line way more than we usually did. Overall the team were satisfied with the results and left feeling happy, though I think a few of us will be having a relaxing Sunday whilst our bodies recover!

W (2-1) 12/12/2020 - W6 vs Broadland 3 (A / L) FINAL GAME BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS BREAK |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 12/12/2020 VS BROADLAND 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 12/12/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 12/12/2020 HEADLINE: Final game before the Christmas break LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2- 1 to City REPORT: City 6's had a difficult first half with Broadland putting up a strong defense and a couple of break aways that got close to shooting. However, City kept up the pressure and kept the goal line 0 - 0 at half time. Unfortunately, not too long into the second half one of our players took an injury which she handled like a Champion but meant she had to leave the match early. As a core midfielder who can out pace any ball she was missed on the pitch but City came back stronger. A hit out side of the D by Emily Winter was defected by Louisa Sizeland leaving no chance for the goalie to save. The next goal came from a fantastic run by Esther Hamilton who drove hard to the back line for a sweet deflection by Louisa Sizeland again. Esther also earned herself Player of The Match for her amazing performance today as not only was she crucial in feeding into the D throughout the game, she worked hard to keep Broadlands attack from getting too close. Broadlands goal came from a short corner just after the end of game whistle was blown. It was really close with it nearly being pushed out by defense, but in the end Broadland slipped one in at end of time. A great finish to the first half of the season, and here's to hoping no more lockdowns and lots more games won in the new year!

W (5-1) 05/12/2020 - W6 vs Norwich Dragons 7 (A / L) COME BACK WIN |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 05/12/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 05/12/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 05/12/2020 HEADLINE: Come Back Win LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 5 - 1 to City 6s REPORT: As can be seen in the score line, City had a great game this week. The best part though, is that we had such a range of scorers and assists showing how the whole team got involved in every element of the game. After the long break from lockdown 2.0 City 6's came back stronger than ever with our best score difference this season. Implementing a subbing system that allowed us to focus on attack, mid and defense separately we managed to keep synchronicity throughout and each sub section communicated amazingly to get a great flow of play and get those transitions perfected. With no subs in defense this week we were hard pushed fitness wise but communicated the whole time, watching our players and driving up with support. There were a few hairy moments for our goalie Jo Di-Corpo where she was one-on-one but handled it like a pro keeping Dragons goals to just one. Mid field handled the sudden start of games again excellently, with them all running 6.5km or more (and from Rose Byrne's tracker showing she was literally everywhere on the pitch). Sofia Hancy was our POTM and justly so, coming in to defend and being pivotal in getting the ball up, as well as getting her first goal of the season with a self drive from the top of the D. Attack have been working hard in training to be extra flexible in their positions and it really showed today. They drew out defenders, swapped around and really made Dragons work to keep up. The goals this week were brilliant, starting with Julia Marchant who was assisted by Ellis Couzins, the second from Liz Hollis who took advantage of the short corner we were given, the third the wonderful run by Sofia Hancy, the fourth from Liz Hollis again, assisted by Esme Abbott and lastly a run from Emily Winter. Cracking stuff womens, keep it up!

W (3-0) 31/10/2020 - W6 vs Norwich City 7 (A / F) FRIENDLY WITH THE 7'S |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 31/10/2020 VS NORWICH CITY 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 31/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 31/10/2020 HEADLINE: Friendly with the 7's LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT: 3 - 0 to City 6s REPORT: After a couple of losses the team were eager to get a win in this week. With great support from Pui Fong before the match we had a proper team warm up and a run through of certain areas with the whole team. This put us in a good place for the beginning of the match and got us focused and ready. 7's were strong and applied a lot of pressure in the first half, with their quick passes proving challenging at times. The first goal came from captain Emily Winter who drove in to the top of the D and scored far right of the goal. However, it has been admitted that this was supposed to be a pass to the attacker on the post but a goal is a goal! Enthusiasm up City 6's pressed on, playing the ball wide across the pitch. Second goal came from a short corner awarded to the 6's, which had numerous people playing a key role - Louisa Sizeland feeding a strong pass to Emily Winter who hit it to left post where Louisa Sizeland was positioned perfectly to tap it in, and all of this was directed by Ellis Couzins who advised the play and made a great call. Last goal or 6's came from our Player of the Match Obie Hansell who had driven it in to the top of the D and had a great shot on goal. Even though it was her first time playing with us she really got stuck in and was an asset to the team across the whole pitch. Her defense was incredibly strong, her mid field passing and progression of the ball amazing and her attacking accuracy was on point. Overall stella performance from Obie Hansell and a well deserved POTM. As a whole, the team played really well and due to some team management advice from Pui Fong we managed to implement a subbing system that created a smoother game and greater team synergy.

L (0-3) 24/10/2020 - W6 vs Norwich Dragons 7 (H / F) DIFFICULT GAME |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 24/10/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 7 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 24/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 24/10/2020 HEADLINE: Difficult game LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT:0-3 loss REPORT: City 6s faced a strong team with Dragon 7's, who had a strong attack and great short corner routines. As a friendly we went into the game looking to practice and implement elements covered in training in anticipation for our next league games. This got us a couple of shots on goal and closes chances with deflections. Defence had another hard week with difficulty blocking the ball before it reached the D as Dragons were able to pop it round us and work in pairs. Our goalie Joanne Di-Corpo had a lot of one on one situations and really took control and saved many shots. Esme Abbott had a great game and got nominated POTM. Playing in right mid field is a great position for her and even though she had a knock on both knees she kept up her motivation, drive and speed to be a crucial part in getting the ball up.

L (0-2) 17/10/2020 - W6 vs Loddon 2 (H / L) FIRST DEFEAT OF THE SEASON |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 17/10/2020 VS LODDON 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 17/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 17/10/2020 HEADLINE: First defeat of the season LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT: L 0 - 2 REPORT: The team faced there first loss of the league games. The first half we faced a strong opposition who pressed hard in attack and secured a goal very early on. There was a lot of new positions in the team this week causing slight difficulties in defense, but City kept their head down and pressed on. With the sun directly in Joanne Di-Corpo's eyes the first half she did a stella job at keeping the goals out. Second half with help from coaches Ali Wardale and Alice Petch, we regrouped and focused on solidifying our defensive line. This worked well with no more goals getting in, and enabled us to press harder in attack. A few very close opportunities and a lot of possession in our attacking half made for a more satisfying end to the game. Although it was a loss today, the team did well to remain focused and composed against a strong opposition. Special mention to Eleanor Tomlinson who was voted POTM. She was amazing on defense and crucial and feeding the ball back into our attacking half. Noteworthy mention as well to Rose Byrne who again, played a pivotal role in feeding the ball wide and opening up game play. A few friendlies over the next couple of weeks will help to get us back on track and winning again!

W (2-1) 10/10/2020 - W6 vs Thetford Town 1 (A / L) VICTORY FOR CITY |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 10/10/2020 VS THETFORD TOWN 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Victory for City LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Breckland Leisure Centre RESULT:2-1 REPORT: City played against Thetford Town who we knew were going to be a very tough team to go against. The start of the game put City on the back foot whilst we go our rhythm and composure. With 0 - 0 at half time, City were keen to keep the goal line even. Soon into the second half Thetford scored but we didn't let it deflate us. We quickly took possession and Mirah Kashif had an amazing one woman run from defense to the D to score a beautiful goal by flicking it just above the goalies feet. That and great composure on the ball earned her POTM which was well deserved. City then kept the pressure up and had majority of the ball in the last 10 minuets. However, an amazing deflection in by Liz Hollis in the closing minuets solidified our victory and made the long drive down a very happy drive back.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 03/10/2020 VS PELICANS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Close call LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT: 2 - 2 REPORT: A tough start the game against Pelicans 3, with the result at half time being 2 -0 to them. Jo Di-Corpo was hard pressed as goalie with a couple of one on one's and a penalty flick. Without her control in defense we would have been a lot worse off. After half time team talk the womens turned the tables quickly and gave a lot of pressure on the oppositions D. Although having a slit knock on the head with a ball, Ellis Couzins scored our two equalisers. One assisted by Emily Winter, the other by Esther Hamilton. Overall, second have was a great improvement and POTM Rose Byrne played a vital role in feeding and controlling the ball and play throughout. Without her forward thinking and pass precision we wouldn't have been able to attack as we did.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 26/09/2020 VS WATTON 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 26/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 26/09/2020 HEADLINE: Fantastic start to the League LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Watton RESULT: 2 - 0 to City REPORT: City braced for the cold and rain today but thankfully the game stayed dry. A strong start by city with great pressure, and a few runs made by Watton. First goal came in the first half made by a feed in from Alice Petch to Liz Hollis, who hit it to left hand corner of the goal. Second goal came in the second half, from a strike from Ellis Couzins deflected up leaving Louisa Sizeland to do an aerial deflection to score. Sarah Bird the 7's captain helped out today in attack with a strike on goal that skimmed the post and deflected back into the D. The opposition new she was a threat so kept a close mark on her at all times. Our Mid fielders formed a core centre to the game today, with Rose Byrne key in passing the ball through players into space, and enabling a fluid drive by attack. Defense played great, with only around 3 strikes on goal made by the opposition. They kept the ball from getting dangerously close to the D, often picking off players before they reached the 23 meter line. We also borrowed Sam Harvey, as well from the 7s, who was a huge asset in blocking the opposition from coming down. And lastly, special mention to POTM Sofia Hancy. She's always been a key player in the team but today she shone with confidence. At any point throughout that game, Sofia was was either driving the ball, offering support, feeding into the D or marking defense on a 16. She was closely followed in nominations by Esther Hamilton and Rose Byrne who were vital support in the spine of the team.

W (2-0) 19/09/2020 - W6 vs Norwich Dragons 7 (A / F) LAST FRIENDLY |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 19/09/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: Last friendly LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Dragons Den RESULT: 2 - 0 Win REPORT: This is the 6's 3rd win which is a incredibly promising for the season ahead as the first 5 games last year resulted in just the one win. The team have been focusing on short corner lately, with advice from coaches and attack Liz Hollis being crucial in the implementation. Sloppy Lemon proved a huge success and we are starting to utilise our attackers strengths to get those goals in. The first goal came in from a short corner, with a slip left and shot on target, but the end result coming from Louisa Sizeland and her ability to grab those rebounds and make them count. Second goal came after half time, again a rebound from a short corner taken with great skill by Ellis Couzins. Praise as well to Josine Van Den Burg who created most of those short corner options with her roll rounds. POTM was our goalie Joanne Di-Corpo who had some excellent saves as per usual, and was key in keeping a clean sheet by dictating the defense when we lost our players. Also special thanks to Mirha Kashif and Rosie Crane who came up from 7's to help us out and proved to be a huge asset.

First half Loddon applied a lot of pressure on the 6's defenses but we kept our composure and played our wings to great effect, opening up more of the pitch. Second half we improved even more, with a high defensive line picking off the Loddon attack before they approached the D. More short corners were given to City, allowing us to trial a few more plays before the league officially starts. Superb passing and pre-scanning by all team members meaning we very rarely give the ball away with a panic pass. Alice Petch was our POTM with an outstanding performance. Being in both defense and attack, she was a key player in ball turnover and driving it back to the offense. The 6's are constantly developing out game play and skills, showing great promise for the league ahead.

L (0-1) 05/09/2020 - W6 vs Harleston Magpies 7 (H / F) AN UPHILL START BUT A SATISFYING END |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 7 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: An uphill start but a satisfying end Another friendly this week which for many is still a good chance to dust of those covid cobwebs - or as our midfielder said - those lock down digestives. The first half was hard - Harleston had great ball control and passing meaning we were chasing them the majority of the time. They had a few goes at goal this half but with amazing goal keeping for Joe, the only one they got was a short corner. Second half was a much better performance from the whole team. We pressured hard and even got out own short corner chances, although the goals still didn't come. We also had two new womens play for us who were crucial in keeping the score line tight and adding pressure. These were Ellie who's moved from Devs, and Esther who is new to the club. Both were fantastic but Ellie got POTM with Esther and Rose close second. With the sun and intensity of play we all came away extremely hot and tired but satisfied with the game. It's a loss on paper but it gives us high hopes for the start of the season.
