WOMENS 5TH XI - 12/12/2020 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 12/12/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 12/12/2020 HEADLINE: Victory for Womens 5s LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 5-4 win REPORT: An early start at home for Womens 5s with newcomers Mia Sexton and Ellie Tomkinson who both had a fantastic game. A strong start for city with great pressure and the defence doing a great job at keeping the ball out of the goal with a strong performance from Zara Hunter in goal who had a busy game. A strong strike from Mia Sexton from the edge of the D hit the back of the net and another goal in the first half gave City a 2-1 lead. Team talk at half time focused on close marking of the opposition and a strong cross in the 2nd half in the attacking D by Matilda Hill was deflected into the goal by Sharon Phillips on the far post. Several short corners laters the score was 4-2 with Midfielders Jane Loughridge, Caitlin Nicholson, Uma Patel, Maddie Smith, Ellie Tompkinsom and Sophie Bush playing a vital role feeding and distributing the ball throughout. The 5th goal for City came from Sophie Bush a strong strike from the edge of the D and with. 5-2 lead City slowed down a little allowing the opposition to bring the score to 5-4 - a nail biting final 5 minutes but the defenders Olivia Hill, Allison McLellan and Annette Peters picked off players keeping them out of the D. So one bruised knee, an injured hand and one broken nose later the final score was a win for City 5-4. Thank you to our supporters/management team Carol McNarry and Sonal Patel!

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Lynnsport RESULT: 3-1 Loss REPORT: Norwich City Womens 5’s vs Pelicans womens 2’s. We were lucky with the weather for the game, perfect hockey weather. Both teams arrived positive and raring to play, after the break from match play due to lockdown. The first half was strong for both teams, Pelicans took the lead scoring their first goal, shortly followed by NCHC’s goal, hit from the top of the D by Matilds Hill after a strong injection by Olivia Hill, in a successful attacking short corner. City continued strongly keeping persistent possession of the ball, with brilliant midfield and forward play from Uma Patel, Maria Marsh, Sophie Bush, Amy Hinchliffe, Jane Loughridge, Caroline Illing, Susan Matthews, Annette Peters and Maddie Smith. Aswell as awesome goal keeping from Zara Hunter. However Pelicans scored a second sneaky goal at a weak point for NCHC. Despite brilliant defence for NCHC from Olivia Hill, Allison McLellan and Emma Guyton, Pelicans went on to score their 3rd goal. This didn’t stop the NCHC womens staying positive, cheery and pushing hard in the last few minutes. It was a thoroughly enjoyed game all round. Well played everybody.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: When arriving at Harleston Magpies we were welcomed with strong winds and cold air, however Norwich City Women’s 5s didn’t let that bother them and brought their usual cheery, competitive spirit into the game against Magpies Women’s 6s. The game started off strongly for NCHC, lots of promising attacks, commitment, and strong structure gifted City with their first goal, hit from the top of the D by Matilda Hill. City Continued strongly throughout the first half, with brilliant defending from, Olivia Hill, Annette Peters and Allison Mclennan. Heading into the second half of the game, City had a 1-0 lead, smiles all round and everybody raring to go. City’s positive mindset proved successful as Millie Wimhurst scored City’s second goal early in the second half. NCHC kept a strong and confident structure throughout the game, providing many attacking opportunities, one of which led too City’s third goal nearing the end of the game, a reverse sweep from Matilda Hill. A positive end to the game for City. A brilliant game of hockey all around. Well done everyone!

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1-1 REPORT: Despite the chilly weather, it was a competitive, great game of hockey from both NCHC women’s 5s and Dereham women’s 3s. NCHC kicked off well with Caitlin Nicholson scoring from a short corner just into the first half. Lovely first half for city, energetic, lots of strong passing, great structure and form held. Shortly after the half time break Dereham came back strong with a goal. City didn’t allow that to get them down, more awesome hockey and loads of brilliant saves from Zara Hunter - our incredible goalie! Confident defending from Allison Mcellan, Annette Peters and Olivia Hill (our POTM) kept the game to a 1-1 result. Multiple attacking opportunities from both City and Dereham, however brilliant keeping from both sides too. It was a lovely and positive game, our newest face Annabelle Royal played super well on the right throughout the game. Well done everybody!

L (2-3) 17/10/2020 - W5 vs Dereham 4 (A / L) A TOUGH AND COMPETITIVE MATCH |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 17/10/2020 VS DEREHAM 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 17/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 17/10/2020 HEADLINE: A tough and competitive match LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dereham RESULT: Loss 3-2 REPORT: This week Womens 5s played against Dereham Womens 4s and it was without a doubt a tough and competitive match! With 15 players we had lots of fresh legs allowing us all to do lots of running around. Unfortunately, for the first 10 minutes of the game we had yet to fully wake up and adapt to this team, resulting in 2 goals being conceded ; but our play definitely went up from here! Straight after this set-back we all played to our full potential, which was definitely noticeable. The second part of this half was much better as we worked more as a team, communicating and passing the ball using the back successfully when it was the best option. Our first goal was scored by Alice Marjoram in the first half. A lovely pass to her meant she could run straight into the attacking D. She then did an amazing reverse stick hit which went past the goalie and into corner of the goal! After this, we knew we could and were determined to get another goal. Throughout the game, lots of short corners were awarded to both teams, but City defence did a great job of defending all of these! The effort levels in the second half seemed to have increased even more and despite being 2-1 down, every City player was very enthusiastic and resilient. Our second goal came from a short corner ; the ball was injected by Emily Hicks to Alice, who hit a strong pass back to Emily. There was no easy opportunity for her to score, so she made a pass back to Caitlin Nicholson on the left of the D who took a lifted strike over the goalie’s hand. We all had a very enjoyable game! It brought attention to the things which we can work on, but also to areas where individuals and as a team we excel! Player of the match was awarded to Caitlin and the final score was City 2 Dereham 3.

L (1-2) 10/10/2020 - W5 vs Norwich Dragons 5 (H / L) NEARLY A DRAW! |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 10/10/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Nearly a draw! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1-2 REPORT: City started well, but Dragons got an early goal within the first few minutes, leaving us chasing right from the start. City didn’t let this get to us though, and kept the intensity up, with some great passing and running resulting in a few chances in the first half. City started the second half how we’d left off at the end of the first, and soon got a goal back from a great pass by Sharon Phillips converted by Amy Hinchclife to make it one all. Some solid defending from Kim Moore, Annette Peters, Olivia Hill, Uma Patel and Allison McLellan meant that whilst Dragons got quite a few more chances, and lots of short corners, they didn’t score right up until the very end, where the 5th short corner in the space of 10 minutes was tipped in at the post. City carried on chasing right up until the very end, but ultimately couldn’t get another goal despite lots of good play. Overall, a very competitive match, with an amazing work rate and playing from everyone!

City continued to put their training practice into game play and scored another goal from a short corner by Lucy Wimhurst. Herlings took advantage of an opportunity and scored a goal. Followed by lots more hard work and determination from City in all areas of the field they earned 3 more goals from Sophie Bush, Millie Wimhursr and another from Lucy Wimhurst. Overall an incredible performance from everybody!

L (0-1) 19/09/2020 - W5 vs Pelicans 2 (H / F) A TIGHT FINISH |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 19/09/2020 VS PELICANS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 19/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 19/09/2020 HEADLINE: A tight finish LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Home RESULT: 0-1 REPORT: After such a hefty win mid week the 5s were keen and energetic to get back onto the pitch this Saturday. After several friendlies, the team are starting to get to know each other's strengths and weakness-and names of course which is always useful. It was a blazing sunny morning for mid September and not at all the weather we are used to playing in. Unfortunately a tough match was not what we needed on such a warm day. We had a slightly rocky start with our formation slipping and a lot of ball following taking place. But with Carol McNarry, our excellent retired ex-captain, on the sidelines and Allison McLellan taking charge from the back they soon whipped us back into shape. We held our own excellently during the first half against a strong Pelicans side who have just come down from the league above. There were several excellent runs made by Sophie Bush our POTM and Susan Matthews setting up lots of possibilities from the middle. However it wasn't to be for either side and we were still 0-0 at half time. The second half felt much stronger with a lot of excellent defending taking place and much better awareness of space and marking. Despite this the Pelicans still managed to get a sneaky ball past Millie Hyatt after several relentless attacks in our half. Our heads didn't go down though and everyone worked harder to try to equalise. After a second goal was flukely stopped on the back line mid air Norwich made several good counter attacks and the last 10mins could have been anyone's game. The final score reflected the relentless battle on both ends by our newly formed team. Thanks again to Millie for helping us out in goal last minute. It would have been a much higher score without her there.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 12/09/2020 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: ! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Sheringham High School RESULT: Lost 4:1 REPORT: A lovely sunny day in Sheringham got Norwich 5's into a good mood and helped us to forget there were no toilet facilities! North Norfolk explained they had a few 1st team players with them today to help coach the new players in the 2's. The North Norfolk team did not look like they had been newly promoted to Div 1 and from the off Norwich knew they had a battle. Alli McClelland guided and directed play from the back and halves and inners worked hard to keep North Norfolk out of the Norwich half. Norwich was just a little match-play-rusty in getting back for full defence mode and North Norfolk scored a very good goal to leave Norwich 1:0 down going into half time. Second half was a much more even game. Norwich had a little change around of positions which worked well with Susan Matthews and Maddie Smith both having a strong game in mid field. More attacking play from Norwich and some very good chances and a few Norwich short corners got the Norwich heads up and Lucy Wimhurst neatly tucked in a goal! Norwich conceded a fair few penalty short corners in the 3rd quarter and assertively and effectively defended many of them against an experienced couple of North Norfolk forwards. One converted. Despite Norwich keeping up the pace and working hard, North Norfolk scored two more goals, that were largely due to a little Norwich defence confusion and the final score was 4:1. Uma Patel (LH) had a great game and deservedly won POM.

W (4-1) 05/09/2020 - W5 vs Harleston Magpies 6 (A / F) A GREAT START FOR A NEW TEAM |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: A great start for a new team LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: harleston Magpies RESULT: 4-1 REPORT: What a great start we had on Saturday against Harleston Magpies! After losing several team members to higher teams in the club we were pleased to give this new little squad a run out together before the league starts in September. We welcomed some of our fellow 6 players and Dev girls to the team and what a splash they made! Uma Patel helped to hold the defence beutifully and Emily Hicks made a statement with her nippy tackles and brutal attacks on goal. After a slightly sluggish start (it's been such a long break) we had several passes intercepted and a foul in our own D which resulted in 3 short corners. Zara, our awesome goalie, made some excellent saves but it was 3rd time lucky for the Magpies and they scored an early goal with an excellent strike from the top of the D. We weren't down for long though with a return short corner scored by Allison MacLellan with another of her power shots she is so well known for. After that the team certainly found their rhythm and it looked like they had been playing together for years. There was some beautiful passing around the D by our attackers for Sophie Bush to finish off on the post and our new little Emily scored two great goals earning her a well deserved POTM. We certainly have the makings of a great little team here with some lovely hockey being played by old and new players alike. It was a lovely and positive game and are looking forward to the rest of the season.
