WOMENS 7TH XI - 15/01/2022 VS NORWICH CITY 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 15/01/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 15/01/2022 HEADLINE: A Graceful Loss For the Womens 7s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: Taverham RESULT: L 0-1 REPORT: A beautiful sunny day for hockey and the 7s got off to a flying start against the womens 6s in the first inter club match for the teams in 2022. With some excellent teamwork the 7s got some great opportunities to score but didn’t manage to convert. After dominating the first quarter the 6s upped their game meaning the 7s defence worked tirelessly to keep the ball out of their D and let in one goal before the second half. However this didn’t dampen the 7s spirit with them winning several balls and defending some tricky short corners excellently. Some excellent saves were done by goalkeeper Jess Westbury and some great defending by all the defenders. The co-ordination of the 7s and the use of their back passes, great movement, interceptions and excellent marking made it a very even match between the teams and an enjoyable game. The team spirit and positive attitude of the 7s really shone through today and this was very much reflected in the POTM votes.

Some great passes around the pitch meant city had a few chances on goal but were struggling to convert. However the speed of the magpies meant that they were caught by several breaks. The 7s however have a strong deference and an incredible goal keeper Jess Westbury who was voted POTM meaning that magpies were unable to score within the first half. A courageous battle by Nicky Wardale against some tough defenders resulted in Sarah Bird scoring from a penalty flick, which gave new life to the team. Through hard work the magpies managed to gain the goal back within the second half resulting in a draw, however this is the first draw for the 7s this season which has left them optimistic for the upcoming games. It was an incredible team effort which was reflected in the spread of the POTM votes.

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: L 0-5 REPORT: A hard fought match for City this week against a very well organised Loddon team. The score line did not reflect the effort put in by the City team, who were debuting a larger number of players this week. With some great runs up the pitch and some incredible hockey by Katie Smith and Alice Hood up the wing city had several attempts on goal it was unfortunate that city couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. Some incredible runs from the Loddon players and shots on goal led to them gaining an early lead in the second half, although the defence put on by city meant they had to up their game in the second half to gain more ground.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Watton Sports Centre RESULT: lost 2-1 REPORT: The 7's were really ready for their first win of the season but it was not to be. They took a while to get going on the sandy Watton pitch & Watton dominated the first half with their first goal coming from a short & their second an amazing strike which we could do nothing about! Unfortunately our closest to a goal in the first half came form Saskia Ashdown whose ball landed on the goal line but never actually crossed it! City dominated the 2nd half with great runs up & down the pitch by Clare Clark & Emily Burnett & eventually a brilliant strike from Saskia gave her the goal she very much deserved. City continued to pile on the pressure with Helen Lewis controlling the middle of the pitch & a fantastic debut by Alice Brand who was strong in defence & kept Watton off the score card in the 2nd half. Thank you to Ellis Couzins, Sam Harvey & Lauren O'Hanlon for helping us out We will get the first win of the season soon............watch this space! Well done every one of the team who really gave it their all on the sandy pitch in the heat of the afternoon sun

L (0-6) 18/09/2021 - W7 vs Harleston Magpies 7 (A / L) A HOT MORNING IN HARLESTON |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 18/09/2021 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 18/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 18/09/2021 HEADLINE: A hot morning in Harleston LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Harleston RESULT: L 0-6 REPORT: It was an early start for City at Harleston this morning & so leaving Norwich in early morning fog, a few of us wondered if we would actually be able to see the ball when we got there! However the sun shone through as we arrived to produce an incredibly hot morning Magpies got off to a great start & unfortunately scored 3 goals in very quick succession which put City on the back foot for all of the first half & we never really settled down & got into our stride. Magpies did short, quick accurate passes & left City a bit despondent. By the end of the first half we were 4-0 down. However after a break at half time & a quick talking to ourselves, we faired much better in the second half & produced some much better hockey with a few attacks on goal & short corners coming our way. We were unfortunate not to claw one back & Magpies went on to score another 2 times! Highlight of the match was a fantastic save by GK Jess Westbury when Magpies were awarded a penalty flick. Jess as always was all over it & prevented us from going 7-0 down. A big thanks to Ellis Couzins & Alice Petch for doubling up from the 6's so we had a full team & a sub. Perhaps not the start to the league we had hoped for but from now on the only way is up!!

L (1-4) 11/09/2021 - W7 vs Dereham 5 (H / F) A GAME OF TWO HALVES |
---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 11/09/2021 VS DEREHAM 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 11/09/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 11/09/2021 HEADLINE: A game of two halves LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:TRF RESULT:Lost 1-4 REPORT: A rather young Dereham team took to the pitch at TRF this afternoon but there were also a couple of quite experienced players intermingled in. City started well with a lot of possession but unfortunately one of the more experienced Dereham players found the ball & made an impressive run through nearly every city player to start the scoring. City then lost a bit of composure & Dereham seemed to put in attack after attack which resulted in 3 more goals before half-time & City were 4-0 down. Jess Westbury in goal made some fantastic saves in the midst of all this & defenders Jan Kennard, Karen Paterson, Sam Harvey & Cat Thompson were all outstanding in trying to stave off the attacks. City regrouped at half time & came out determined not to let Dereham get the better of them. A run early on down the left side resulted in a cross to Sarah Bird who slammed it away for City's first goal! City really found their stride after this & there were numerous short corners & near misses off the goal line to follow. A penalty flick was even awarded but unfortunately Sarah Bird's excellent flick was saved by the Dereham goalie. Dereham didn't score at all this half & City can take a lot away from this game & have some excellent game play to build on. POTM was well-deserved to Paschka Da Costa who battled on for the whole game. Well done everyone.
