W (6-1) 12/09/2020 - W1 vs IES 1 (H / F) CITY SMASH ANOTHER PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 12/09/2020 VS IES 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: City Smash Another Pre-Season Friendly LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 6-1 REPORT: City started strong from the off with great pressure from the front and relentless hassling from midfielders Lucy Tilbrook and Alice Gill. Only 3 minutes after the whistle and an interception and ball across the goal from Ellie Brine set Krystal Bishop up for goal number one. Great communication from goal keeper Summer Haylock helped defenders pick up loose players and prevent any dangerous attacks from IES. Micayla Tootill fired the ball from a 16 to Felicity Williams who threw the ball across the D, over the defenders sticks for Olivia Williams to deflect mid-air into the goal, 2-0. Despite the blazing sunshine City kept the intensity up but IES were still keen to come back and managed to win a short corner. Luckily their drag flick narrowly missed the goal and City were quick to react. Teamwork across the pitch created further chances for City and a reserve stick interception from Alice Gill set up Ellie Brine for a one-on-one with the keeper. Brine chipped the ball over the sliding keeper into the top corner making the score 3-0 before half time. IES’s hopes of a come back were falling short as defenders Hannah Jarvis and Pui Fong Chung were stepping in front of any through balls to their high forwards. A brave save on the line from Suzy Edwards also helped maintain City’s clean sheet. A quick ball out from Felicity Williams found Krystal Bishop. Another one-on-one wasn’t looking good for the opposition keeper as Bishop wound up for a clean hit into the bottom corner. 4-0. Some excellent defending and a stylish one-two out of the corner from forwards Olivia Williams and Krystal Bishop set Bishop up for her hat trick, 5-0. City’s 6th and final goal started with a great free hit win from Jo Staines and a lovey ball into the D from Harriet Preston. Bishop (surprise surprise!) was the one to finish with a reverse sweep into the corner. 8 minutes to go and City had finally tired, a scramble at the top of the D and a ball through to a player on the post found IES a sneaky last minute goal. Final score 6-1. Player of the match Ellie Brine.

D (1-1) 12/09/2020 - W2 vs Bury St Edmunds 2 (H / F) ANOTHER EXCITING MATCH |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 12/09/2020 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Another Exciting Match FRIENDLY VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-1 DRAW REPORT: The Womens 2s had another great game! We started the game very strong and completely controlled the first two quarters! Both Frankie Birkenhead and Helen Busfield worked the ball nicely from the back to the forwards who created lots of chances on goal, we also even had a few attacking short corners, however, we didn’t manage to score in the first half. The 2nd half started at full pace with Bury beginning to challenge us, Leigh-Ann Worrall and Frankie both kept strong at the back with the help of Dani Sizer and Sally Rose. But, unfortunately, in the 3rd quarter Bury scored a goal after attacking strongly in our half of the pitch. We kept on going and managed to succeed with a goal scored by Mia Moore with the help of Emily Francis which allowed us to get the score up to 1:1. Everyone continued to work hard right up until the end of the match where Bury were awarded a short corner which would decide our result, Milly Hyatt's final save knocking the ball off the pitch meant that we were able to finish with a draw! Overall it was an excellent match where everyone gave their all, and although it was a shame to come away with a draw, it was a good practice and was great for everyone to be back playing hockey again. POTM: Milly Hyatt

WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/09/2020 VS UEA 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/09/2020 HEADLINE: Midweek win! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: The Womens 3s enjoyed a close and hard fought midweek victory as they took on UEA Womens 2s at Taverham. The game started very even with both sides creating half chances with UEA taking the lead midway through the first half through a penalty corner. City thought back and following good play down the right hand side a pin point cross was turned home by Ellie Alderton. After the break City were far more the dominate side but struggled create and clear goal scoring opportunities until Ellie Alderton scored her second in a goal mouth scramble. City 3s were unlucky not to add any further goals as they sealed out a 2-1 victory.

W (1-0) 12/09/2020 - W3 vs Loddon 1 (H / F) SUNNY SATURDAY |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 12/09/2020 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Sunny Saturday LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST (friendly) VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-0 REPORT: Sunny Saturday This week we had a bit of challenge by playing Loddon, however it was no match for our fabulous, well driven squad of 15. To start off with we had a quick head start by the first couple of minutes; Ellie Alderton showing us on her debut a fabulous run on the left then being passed on the attack to finally Jenni Czerwinski having a shot on goal and making it onto the back board. Overall in the first half it was a challenge, having multiple short corners which we had no trouble of getting, unfortunately none of which went in. Down on the defensive end Serena Scott made an incredible save which made us all feel no worries of Loddon equalising. Half time occurred and we where back on again, everyone feeling pumped to get back out there on this sunny day. Amazing balls where being pulled across by Emma Richardson and Emily Spencer, which gave more chances for the forwards. However, we still where still determined to get that extra goal just, a massive well done to Lauren Lawrie and Marie Hood for giving amazing performances throughout the game never giving up. Lauren gave multiple chances for the forwards and made sure the oppositions attacks wouldn’t get chances down our defending end. In contrast, towards the end of the game Gabby Sharp decided to get a green card and was off for the last 2 minutes. Overall a massive congrats to Lauren Lawire and Marie Hood for both being voted this weeks POTM by the team, Marie sadly lost an intense game of rock-paper-scissors, crowning Lauren overall L3s POTM this week.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham - H20 RESULT: 3-1 Loss REPORT: The 4s started well and took a deserved lead into half time thanks to a great strike from Abigail Hill. After the break things went slightly down hill when City went down to a bare 11 following a nasty head injury. Tiring legs took prevail as Reepham equalised through a penalty corner before scoring a further two breakaway goals. Lots of positives despite the defeat as the girls take on Yarmouth next week in another tough test.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 12/09/2020 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: ! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Sheringham High School RESULT: Lost 4:1 REPORT: A lovely sunny day in Sheringham got Norwich 5's into a good mood and helped us to forget there were no toilet facilities! North Norfolk explained they had a few 1st team players with them today to help coach the new players in the 2's. The North Norfolk team did not look like they had been newly promoted to Div 1 and from the off Norwich knew they had a battle. Alli McClelland guided and directed play from the back and halves and inners worked hard to keep North Norfolk out of the Norwich half. Norwich was just a little match-play-rusty in getting back for full defence mode and North Norfolk scored a very good goal to leave Norwich 1:0 down going into half time. Second half was a much more even game. Norwich had a little change around of positions which worked well with Susan Matthews and Maddie Smith both having a strong game in mid field. More attacking play from Norwich and some very good chances and a few Norwich short corners got the Norwich heads up and Lucy Wimhurst neatly tucked in a goal! Norwich conceded a fair few penalty short corners in the 3rd quarter and assertively and effectively defended many of them against an experienced couple of North Norfolk forwards. One converted. Despite Norwich keeping up the pace and working hard, North Norfolk scored two more goals, that were largely due to a little Norwich defence confusion and the final score was 4:1. Uma Patel (LH) had a great game and deservedly won POM.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 12/09/2020 VS LODDON 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Another promising friendly LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 0 - 0 REPORT: Another friendly for the 6's to get us in top condition before the season starts. First half Loddon applied a lot of pressure on the 6's defenses but we kept our composure and played our wings to great effect, opening up more of the pitch. Second half we improved even more, with a high defensive line picking off the Loddon attack before they approached the D. More short corners were given to City, allowing us to trial a few more plays before the league officially starts. Superb passing and pre-scanning by all team members meaning we very rarely give the ball away with a panic pass. Alice Petch was our POTM with an outstanding performance. Being in both defense and attack, she was a key player in ball turnover and driving it back to the offense. The 6's are constantly developing out game play and skills, showing great promise for the league ahead.

W (4-1) 16/09/2020 - W7 vs UEA 5 (A / F) VICTORY FOR CITY 7S |

WOMENS 7TH XI - 16/09/2020 VS UEA 5 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 16/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 16/09/2020 HEADLINE: Victory for City 7s LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: UEA RESULT: 4-1 (w) REPORT: City 7s played an enjoyable midweek friendly against UEA 5s away at UEA Sportspark. The 7s started the stronger side with some great movement and passing and it didn't take long for Sarah Bird to score the opening goal. The team continued to press well and also defended very well against the fast UEA forwards. Danielle Emerson was unlucky not to score and then Clare Clark secured another goal for City so the 7s went into half time 2-0 up. UEA came out stronger after the break and controlled the play for a while. Some strong defending along with a couple of great saves from Jo Di Corpo left the score unchanged. City started to settle down again and some great work at Centre Half from Sam Harvey coupled with some fantastic runs through midfield from Scarlett Rhoades and Mirha Kashif created more chances on goal. Esme Abbott made a great debut on the right wing. After some good build up play and a few attempts at goal Nicky Wardale scored a lovely deflection past the keeper . City enjoyed lots of pressure in the UEA D and were unlucky not to score more. It was a good opportunity to try some different short corner routines. These looked promising and is definitely something to work on. A final goal for City came from Clare Clark who picked up the ball outside the D, made a lovely run and a perfect finish to slot the ball in the back of the net. UEA picked up the intensity again and scored a well deserved goal. Numerous players received votes for player of the match which reflected the good all round team performance. Mirha Kashif was awarded POTM for some excellent runs up the pitch and for helping to create so many goal scoring opportunities. Well done to everyone, it really was a good team performance and we have lots of positives to build on.

WOMENS 7TH XI - 12/09/2020 VS CARROW 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Unlucky 7's LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 (Loss) REPORT: The 7s started well and dominated the game in the first half. Some great passing and movement in midfield meant that City had the most of the ball but were unfortunate not to get the ball into the D to create many chances to score. The first half ended 0-0. Carrow started the second half the stronger side and soon went 2-0 up. Helen McCall pulled one back for City from a lovely link up with Danielle Emerson during a short corner. The heat from the lovely warm sunny day took its toll and the 7s seemed uncharacteristically tired and despite some good attacking play, just couldn't equalise. There are a lot of positives to take from the game and also areas that we know we need to work on. Well done to Rosie Crane who was very strong in midfield and was well deserved POTM.

W (3-0) 12/09/2020 - M1 vs IES 1 (H / F) MENS 1S CONTINUE STRONG FORM, LONG PRE-SEASON PAYING OFF. |

MENS 1ST XI - 12/09/2020 VS IES 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Mens 1s continue strong form, long pre-season paying off. LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: Another week into the long pre-season and another positive display from the men’s 1s. Taverham was blessed with sunshine and solid support. After watching the Womens do the business against IES, it was time for the men to follow suit. Once again, the lads asserted their dominance from the whistle with plenty of possession within the opposition half. Plenty chances created but no goals scored through Q1. Q2 brought more possession, more chances and eventually a deserved goal with Pete Morgan finding the space in the D to put home a Thomas Cooke delivery through the top. A quick halftime chat reinforcing the same point of setting the standard, increasing the ball pace and managing the game led to really solid passing play and taking care of the ball. After a few half chances, Felix Broadway took it upon himself to play a 1-2 with Chris Wardale and plant home a lovely finish into the corner of the IES net. 2-0, End of Q3. Q4 saw IES struggle with injuries and stamina with their bare 11 but NCHC didn’t let up. Ben Chapman, Tom Harris and Chris Wardale linked up really nicely down the left and Rafe Lochore did even better to open a gap at the top of the D and reverse it home. Unfortunately it was disallowed for hitting our foot in the D. Fortunately, he did the same move 2 mins later after a pass from Jack Ingham and with the same result of a phenomenal reverse into the bottom corner Rafe got the goal he deserved. And thankfully it was for us, not against us like in Thursday Night’s game where he played for UEA. All round, solid display, led the game and went from strength to strength through the quarters to take the game to IES and make our dominance across the field payoff with a lovely clean sheet as the icing on the cake.

MENS 2ND XI - 12/09/2020 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Got there in the end... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: With a strong squad once again and selection on his mind, non-playing captain Lingy spoke positively about the game ahead after the efforts the previous week. Unfortunately, even though the warnings were given about maintaining our own quality and not being drawn into a scrappy game, the first half was not the best. Anyway, after good play from Gill, Land turned in his crisp shot. The lead didn't last too long with some brilliant anti-skill allowing a good finish for North Norfolk to level. Half time 1-1. Even after some words from the captain, the second half didn't initially get much better. Gill got on the scoresheet with a fine run around the top of the D and well-placed shot. Squaddie decided to take an early rest (bringing a chair especially) after purposely hooking his stick into a North Norfolk shoelace - vicious! Cue a few words and a lot of laughter from the sideline as both players received a yellow. North Norfolk drew level before City managed to step it up slightly to score three goals in the final 10mins. Land restored the lead from an intended pass. Short sharp passing in the final quarter of the pitch led to a Kidner goal before Land completed his hat-trick deflecting in a short corner from Jez. Plenty to work on before the start of the season and no doubt the selection headache continues.

MENS 3RD XI - 12/09/2020 VS NORWICH EXILES 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 12/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 12/09/2020 HEADLINE: Local derby ends in City victory LEAGUE: Friendly VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Norwich City 3s 3 - 1 Exciles REPORT: City continued their pre season preparation with a good if laboured victory over local rivals Exiles in the glorious September sun at Taverham. City started well with Elliot Fox particularly influential in the early stages.. His clinical cross allowing Freddie Paterson to open the scoring in the 7th minute. Whilst City’s build up play was intelligent and effective their penalty corners were not, with at least 5 failing to threaten extending the lead. A simple but effective tap-in from Alex Tomkinson extended the lead after 25 minutes but as City looked to relax and play the ball around they we hit on the counter attack by an excellent if somewhat unchallenged run by Dan Cheeseman reduced the arrears, 2-1. Whilst the half time team talk was all about ball pace and support play, the heat and to some extent dominance of City lead to some lapses in concentration that allowed Bobby Rash to demonstrate his keeping prowess through a string of excellent saves. Whilst City’s back three looked confident and secure they did tend to become somewhat defensive and distant from the midfield. The final quarter saw both keepers pull off some good saves but it was, for the second week running, a thunderbolt from the top of the D from Paul Roy that secured the City win. Several players received man of the match nominations, with the award going to Bobby Rash.

City's side had a youth vs experience mix, with two pairs of Cordens & Inghams adding strength in key areas. The umpires decided to play 4 x 15 minute quarters and City scored straight from the pushback with Rushton finishing off a flowing right sided move. A few minutes later it was Rushton again finishing from close range to double City''s lead and set the tone for the rest of the match City's youth of Hancock, McEwan, Millett, Patel and Rushton, revelled in the heat and after a goalless second quarter they raised the tempo, and Dereham's ageing side were unable to cope. Further goals from Wilson and a brace from MOTM Millett left the final score 5-0 to City

City looked threatening going forward and added a third when Phill Nunn tapped home. City held out for a 3-0 win to start of the season.
