WOMENS 1ST XI - 09/09/2020 VS UEA 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 09/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 09/09/2020 HEADLINE: Excellent finishing sees high score-line LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: Taverham - H20 RESULT: 10-0 Win REPORT: After a positive start to the season City Womens 1st XI entertained UEA Womens 1st XI at Taverham in a midweek friendly with both teams competing in Division 1 North this season City were determined to show what they could do. After a nervy start by both sides within the first quarter it was City who took the lead following an excellent bit of umpiring by David White playing advantage of a UEA foot to allow Olivia Williams to fire into the net for the opening goal. City made it 2-0 minutes later when a ball fired into the path of Rosie Ringer was deflected into the path of an unmarked Krystal Bishop who volleyed into the goal. 2-0 Into the 2nd quarter and UEA had their best spell of the game putting pressure on the City backline and winning a couple of penalty corners however the City defense held strong. City were always dangerous however on the break and an excellent reverse stick cross by Krystal Bishop was tapped home by Ellie Brine as City made it 3-0. It was 4-0 before the break when Krystal Bishop fired a low shot into the goal. HT: 4-0 City came out of the blocks fast into the second half and created some great chances going forward before Felicity Williams added goal number 5 with a low finish into the bottom corner. 5 became 6 soon after when a determined run from Lucy Tilbrook set up Krystal Bishop for her hattrick. UEA then had another strong spell putting pressure on the City backline but failed to create any clear chances, as Micayla Tootill made them pay with a thunderous low strike into the bottom corner from a penalty corner. Into the final quarter and City kept hassling and pressuring the UEA backline. City made it 8-0 through another short corner routine as Rosie Ringer tapped home on the post. UEA never gave up and battled hard against a rampant City side but in the final 5 minutes Krystal Bishop added her fourth and City's ninth and in the last minute Ellie Brine scored her 2nd from a well worked penalty corner routine. Full Time 10-0

WOMENS 1ST XI - 05/09/2020 VS SUDBURY 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: NCHC 1s VS SUDBURY LEAGUE: FRIENDLY VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: In their second game of the triangular fixture against Sudbury the womens ones had clearly listened to the wise words from Pies and pressed higher up the pitch stopping Sudbury from getting the ball out from the back. This led to quick turnover ball pass leading to a swift counter and the award of a penalty corner which was dispatched into the corner of the goal by Mikalya. The defence benefitted from the higher line and a fine tackle from Jo and surging run from Fongy led to Olivia adding a second. Norwich created space playing the ball around the back and a beautiful team move saw Niamh thread a defence splitting reverse stick pass to Olivia who unselfishly squared the ball to Ellie to cap a fine display with a 3rd goal.

L (1-2) 05/09/2020 - W2 vs Harleston Magpies 3 (H / F) ANOTHER MATCH COMPLETE |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: Another Match Complete LEAGUE: Friendly VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-2 Loss The girls started off with a desire to go out and have fun, and that’s exactly what we did. The first half consisted of solid defensive work, however an early goal from Magpies pushed us to work that much harder. We were persistent to try and break through a tough press from the back using transfers across our back four. We kept our heads up after a 2-0 score at half time and came out that bit hungrier. Our forwards used their speed and strength to weave around congested areas which led us to a short corner. This resulted in a fast hard slap across goal from Niamh Campbell into the corner to make the score 2-1. We had finally found our feet in the last quarter where we tried to make a last push. With an unlucky call from the umpire while standing on the penalty spot about to shoot, we were unable to make it a draw and ended the score with 2-1. We were all pleased with our effort, just need to gain that extra aggression which some of us have lost through lockdown but will be unleashed again very soon. Well played everyone, with a special mention to our POTM Ellie Hobden.

D (1-1) 05/09/2020 - W3 vs Harleston Magpies 4 (A / F) POST COVID CLASH |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: Post Covid Clash LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST (friendly) VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 1-1 POM - Sabina Baker REPORT: Post Covid Clash We arrived at a rather different socially distanced Magpies clubhouse with two lonely portaloo’s to welcome us alongside the blue toilet flush and hand sanitisers! Our pre-match warm up was brisk, with a pre-match note from Nick and our captain was on the side line so we will now call her our Covid Mascot! Magpies agreed to play in quarters, which was a big relief to the squad. First quarter started off with each team eyeing up the opposition and some solid play from end to end Magpies if anything had slightly more play on the ball but couldn’t fight their way through the even with Covid precautions! Second quarter was pretty boring for GK Serena due to Sabina, queen of defence, with some fancy stick work and solid balls out of the 23rd finding Maria & Emily S, on many occasions, we were finding our feet and pushing up via Lauren and Emily L and knocking on the door of Magpie’s now! At this point we found ourselves on the edge of the D where the Top Goal scorer (Liv) started where she left off by making the backboard rattle!! A well-deserved goal for the team. The 3rd quarter wasn't our best where we allowed Magpies to dominate the game and ours became a tad scrappy! Hence, we had to be rather defensive towards their two main players... at some point we found ourselves with a 2 v 1 where GK had no option but to take the player whilst the ball was slipped left, unfortunately this led to the equaliser. Finally, the fourth quarter was upon us with few words from our Covid Mascot and contributions from Maria, Emily L we went into lockdown, we fought hard, and played our game, we held our own and brought home a well-earned draw. A fantastic first post-lockdown, pre-season match for the 3s!

W (4-1) 05/09/2020 - W4 vs Harleston Magpies 5 (H / F) 4S START SEASON IN STYLE! |

WOMENS 4TH XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: 4s start season in style! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham - H20 RESULT: 4-1 Win REPORT: The Womens 4s enjoyed an opening day victory over Harleston Magpies 5s as they started the season in style. Taking on a young Magpies side with only a bare 11 was always going to be a challenge but the Womens started really well when an early goal mouth scramble was tapped home on the reverse by Carey Briggs. City then became a bit scrappy and Magpies has a succession of short corners with keeper Linsmith on top form in goal keeping City in the lead. City were always dangerous on the break and a fantastic ball from Lucy Walton found Lucy McNarry who finished well 1 on 1. Half Time 2-0 Into the second half and City were determined to keep up the hard work and retain the ball a little more. Despite both teams having attacks and their fair share of the ball City were the ones with a little more clinical nature in front of goal and it was 3-0 when Lucy Walton fired a low ball into the corner of the goal. Magpies never gave up and made it 3-1 when some lovely skills from a Magpies youngster set up a simple tap in finish at the far post. However City weren't finished and scored a fourth when Caroline Illing tapped home a short corner at the far post. Full Time 4-1 and a very positive start to the season.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: A great start for a new team LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: harleston Magpies RESULT: 4-1 REPORT: What a great start we had on Saturday against Harleston Magpies! After losing several team members to higher teams in the club we were pleased to give this new little squad a run out together before the league starts in September. We welcomed some of our fellow 6 players and Dev girls to the team and what a splash they made! Uma Patel helped to hold the defence beutifully and Emily Hicks made a statement with her nippy tackles and brutal attacks on goal. After a slightly sluggish start (it's been such a long break) we had several passes intercepted and a foul in our own D which resulted in 3 short corners. Zara, our awesome goalie, made some excellent saves but it was 3rd time lucky for the Magpies and they scored an early goal with an excellent strike from the top of the D. We weren't down for long though with a return short corner scored by Allison MacLellan with another of her power shots she is so well known for. After that the team certainly found their rhythm and it looked like they had been playing together for years. There was some beautiful passing around the D by our attackers for Sophie Bush to finish off on the post and our new little Emily scored two great goals earning her a well deserved POTM. We certainly have the makings of a great little team here with some lovely hockey being played by old and new players alike. It was a lovely and positive game and are looking forward to the rest of the season.

L (0-1) 05/09/2020 - W6 vs Harleston Magpies 7 (H / F) AN UPHILL START BUT A SATISFYING END |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 7 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: An uphill start but a satisfying end Another friendly this week which for many is still a good chance to dust of those covid cobwebs - or as our midfielder said - those lock down digestives. The first half was hard - Harleston had great ball control and passing meaning we were chasing them the majority of the time. They had a few goes at goal this half but with amazing goal keeping for Joe, the only one they got was a short corner. Second half was a much better performance from the whole team. We pressured hard and even got out own short corner chances, although the goals still didn't come. We also had two new womens play for us who were crucial in keeping the score line tight and adding pressure. These were Ellie who's moved from Devs, and Esther who is new to the club. Both were fantastic but Ellie got POTM with Esther and Rose close second. With the sun and intensity of play we all came away extremely hot and tired but satisfied with the game. It's a loss on paper but it gives us high hopes for the start of the season.

City dominated possession in the first half with some delightful passing moves and deserved their 2-0 lead. Inevitably Magpies came back in the second half with City's defence under pressure and eventually a goal was scored. However, City redoubled their efforts and a swift counter attack resulted in the goal that effectively killed the game with City again enjoying the majority of play thereafter. A fourth was scored in the latter stages following a strong run from Scarlett Rhoades whose great work throughout the game resulted in her being awarded POTM. The goals came from Danielle Fogarty-Emerson (2) in her debut at centre forward, Susan Hipperson and Helen Lewis.

MENS 1ST XI - 10/09/2020 VS UEA 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 10/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 10/09/2020 HEADLINE: Another promising pre-season game LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Taverham - H20 RESULT: 7-1 Win REPORT: Following last weeks positive victory over Chelmsford, City were determined to continue their positive pre-season as they took on a young and fit UEA side at Taverham. Despite an even first 10 minutes where both sides were finding their feet it was City opened the scoring through a Harry Gill reverse stick strike, City doubled their lead soon after when Gill turned provider firing a low ball into the D for Chris Wardale to deflect home. The game once again became even with both teams battling it out in the middle of the park but City did add a third goal before half time with a Cameron Cooke drag flick at a penalty corner. Half Time 3-0 Into the second half and City started on the front foot creating several good chances which Ben Nkrumah in the UEA goal did well to keep out, he was however beaten for a fourth time when Stuart Wardle found time and space in the D to fire a low shot into the goal. A fifth goal was added a minute later when an excellent run from Ben Chapman found Chris Wardale unmarked in the D who rounded the keeper and finished into an empty goal. The game became a bit of a stalemate again with City creating and missing chances before a sixth goal was added for birthday boy Tom Cooke from a penalty corner. UEA did however never give up and scored through on loan City striker Rafe Lochore. The game finished in the final minutes as Chris Wardale completed his hattrick from the penalty flick spot. Full Time: 7-1

W (1-0) 05/09/2020 - M1 vs Chelmsford 1 (A / F) FIRST TEAM CONTINUES GREAT PRE-SEASON |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 05/09/2020 VS CHELMSFORD 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: First Team Continues Great Pre-season LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Chelmer Park RESULT: 0-1 REPORT: The Men First team took the long journey down the A140 to Chelmsford hoping to build off the strong displays vs Magpies and Bury in the past week against what could be their toughest test so far, given a few players were missing and a few more coming back from holidays for their first minutes. After a shorter than expected warmup, we were underway. But we didnt let it effect our momentum and in similar fashion to the previous 2 matches we dominated the early phases with both possession and territory. Credit to Chelmsford they also had early patches of chance creation but the Defence with debutant Tom Harris stayed strong and left Alistair Cooke with only a few things to save. After a quarter time break, not alot changed, we continued to use the entire pitch and create various good chances. Eventually we made the chances count after Jack Ingham played a glorious ball across the face to Cam Cooke who dinked a lovely ball over the onrushing GK. 1-0 HT. 2nd half was far more balanced as Chelmsford looked to crowd their defensive zone by half-courting us, despite being 1-0 down (we'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were trying out tactics in a pre-season friendly not just playing extremely negtively). We still played fast, short & fluid hockey and it didnt slow down our D Entries with Mikey, Jonty, Stu, Louis and Gabs all able to find lots of space out wide and get balls in towards the baseline and our forwards. As is to be expected, as we tired the odd stray passes same out and chelmsford managed to put together some attacks and upgraded a few to end up with 8 Short Corners to our 4. And if it wasnt for hero of the day, Gabriel Marchant, the game wouldve ended 1-1. As he leapt behind Russ and made an amazing diving deflection on the opposite post 60 seconds after having made another goal line stop at the previous Short Corner. We held on for the 1-0 victory, shared a few beers with the lovely Chelmsford team and enjoyed our journey home. Alot of positives through the first half of pre-season, here's to many more in the second half! MOTM: Tom Harris - Impressive Debut: fit straight in, rock at the back, cool on the ball and enjoyed some sexy passing moves with guys hes barely played with before.

D (2-2) 05/09/2020 - M2 vs Harleston Magpies 2 (H / F) CITY START WITH POSITIVE 2-2 DRAW AGAINST STRONG MAGPIES SIDE |

MENS 2ND XI - 05/09/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: City start with positive 2-2 draw against strong Magpies side LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Taverham High School RESULT: 2-2 Draw REPORT: Following a couple of knock around matches, City's finest 2nd XI took on Magpies 2nd XI at Taverham High School in their first competitive fixture of the season. Magpies travelled with a coach and strong 13 man squad including 3 players who played against our first XI the previous week. The game started at frantic pace in the late summers heat at Taverham with early attacks for both sides, Magpies started strong and put early pressure on the City backline of Fox, Scott, Bailey, Riddleston and Ling however the defense stood strong and City opened the scoring. Jeremy Elliot picked up the ball on half way and picked out Harry Gill who was in one on one with the keeper and finished excellently round the keeper, 0-1. Magpies still however had the majority of the ball but both sides created chances and short corners. City were thank full to the woodwork on two occasions as Magpies rocked both posts. City however were deadly on the break and found themselves 2-0 up on the break as Will Kidner set up Adie Land who finished well from an acute angle. 2-0 Half Time Magpies rallied well in the second half and created more chances on the City goal with Elwes in goal making a few crucial saves. Magpies kept rallying and eventually scored through one of their first team players who turned well in the D and fired into the corner. 2-1 The game then became quite open with both teams creating chances on goal however it was Magpies who scored another with Sam Hyatt very unfortunately putting the ball in his own net from Magpies short corner. 2-2. City created several chances towards the end of the game but the experienced Magpies defense saw out City's final attacks and the game finished all square. POTM votes were shared between Sam Hyatt and Joe Roy with both youngsters having a very promising game with Sam winning by 1 vote. Next week another friendly North Norfolk at home.

MENS 3RD XI - 05/09/2020 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: Summer sizzler LEAGUE: Friendly VENUE: Culford School RESULT: Norwich City 3s 4 - 1 Bury 3s REPORT: Indomitable irascible irrepressible irresistible and imperious are just five adjectives beginning with the letter “i” to accompany this City performance. With youngsters Tom Hindle and Mark Circuit supported by established 3s players it was a delight to behold with slick high paced passing accompanying intelligent ney some might say insightful movement on and off the ball. City took the lead midway through the first half following a splendid scything run by Freddie Paterson before a precision pass enabled Robert McCall to slot home. With City threatening down both flanks and through the middle it was a surprise that the advantage remained a single goal until the stroke of half time when Hindle demonstrated the type of calmness and composure that could lead to a long and successful career when clinically converting a short corner. City continued to enjoy their day in the sun in the second half with Paul Roy producing a delightful cover drive half volley from the top of the D that wouldn’t have been out of place at Lords or the MCG to make it 3-0 and young a Hindle making it 4-0 soon afterwards. Whilst Bury did score a consolation goal late on this did not detract from an excellent first game of the season for City who had many notable performances. Edward Taylor was named man of the match for combining excellent defensive duties, incisive interceptions and aggressive attacking.

MENS 4TH XI - 05/09/2020 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 4th XI DATE: 05/09/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 4th XI VS 05/09/2020 HEADLINE: City Take it to the 'Max' LEAGUE: Friendly VENUE: Culford School RESULT: Bury St Edmunds M4's 1:4 NCHC M4's REPORT: A marked contrast in weather brought the sun out in Suffolk, and a youthful City side of 4th and some 5th teamers took on Bury 4's at Culford School Captains Frosty & Ed Cotton, together with Manager Haren came under early pressure before the start trying to establish the difference between Max Wilson & Max McEwan. This problem went on throughout the match and has continued to haunt a forgetful Frosty this evening as I'm pretty sure I've put the wrong Max on the score sheet! Anyway - a quick summary of the game as follows; The midfield General that is Krishna Patel opened the scoring with a well taken drag flick from a short corner and CIty were deservedly ahead at the break 1-0 City's pace was too hot too handle in the second half and it was obvious Bury were tiring. Max Wilson (definitely!) doubled City's lead with an unstoppable reverse from the left side of the 'D', 2-0 Bury got one back at a short corner, but undeterred, City soon scored again. This time it was Max Mcewan who supplied the killer pass for Ethan Rushton to score through he Bury keeper's legs, 3-1 Finally, it was left to MOTM Max McEwan to put Glenn Tobias through to coolly slide the ball past the onrushing keeper for a deserved 4-1 win Notable mentions go to Harvey Nkrumah, Dan Jeffers, Sam Hancock and Ollie Millett for their tireless work in the central and high areas of the pitch. Can't wait for next week away at Dereham 3's
