L (0-4) 24/02/2024 - W5 vs Diss 1 (A / L) DEFEAT AT DISS |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 24/02/2024 VS DISS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 24/02/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 24/02/2024 HEADLINE: Defeat at Diss LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Hartismere School RESULT: 4-0 Loss REPORT: Despite the mist, we emerged at Diss sporting the away kit and ready to give it our all.. Diss started fast and powerful, with hard direct hits and the sense we were soon going to be run ragged; but we settled in well as a team, gained composure, good communication and we started our attack. We moved it well between us, kept the movement fast and really used our width. We looked like the better team and we fancied this for the win, but It was unfortunate that Diss found our goal not long before the end of the first half. The team talk saw input from nearly everyone in the team, with little tweaks we could go out and do and overall we were positive; we didn't look like a bottom league team. Diss found our goal again shortly in to the second half but we didn't let it get our heads down. We passed, we talked, we attacked them again and again, we just couldn't quote convert it. FInal minutes of the game and Diss found our goal for the 3rd time, but unfortunately not the last time. One more later, the game was over 4-0. Despite the score line, we had played well - kept our heads in the game to the very end and just suffered with converting those opportunities.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 03/02/2024 VS BROADLAND 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 03/02/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 03/02/2024 HEADLINE: Home battle defeat LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 2-4 REPORT: City were on the attack from the off with strong passing and lots of movement. We were determined to defeat Broadland and the opportunity came 7 minutes in when Rachel stormed the left wing to take her first successful shot on goal - and we were 1 - nil up! Reset, let's go again! - Broadland came back at us and equalised within minutes. We weren't defeated yet though, and we managed to score off a short corner and we were winning again 2-1! Broadland didn't rest on their laurels though and before half time they equalised with us - 2-2! We went in to the second half, feeling we could keep broadland at bay still but it just wasn't to be. Short corners saw Broadland convert another 2 and we finished 2-4 to them.

D (0-0) 27/01/2024 - W5 vs Harleston Magpies 6 (A / L) LATE AWAY DRAW |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 27/01/2024 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 6 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 27/01/2024 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 27/01/2024 HEADLINE: Late away draw LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Harleston Magpies RESULT: 0-0 REPORT: We dragged ourselves to Harleston for this late afternoon game, knowing we were one point ahead of them in the league and that we had drawn against them last time. We were raring to go and kept them on their toes in the initial play of the game. We kept the ball up in their half and proved a formidable force to break against. The team were spritely given the time and we ran our hearts out, passing strongly and keeping good possession. Magpies had some good breaks in retaliation but could not get through our defence or superstar keeper Zara, and with a few very close but unsuccessful attempts on goal at the very end of the first half, we went in to half time nil nil. Harleston came back strong in the first few minutes of the second half, but their renewed vigour was matched by city and a pretty uneventful second half saw us finish nil nil; not to be sniffed at, we had a good game and was worth the trek to the depths of beyond and the dark drive home.

W (1-0) 25/11/2023 - W5 vs Dereham 3 (A / L) 51 WEEK WAIT FOR THE WIN - BUT WE GOT THERE! |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 25/11/2023 VS DEREHAM 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 25/11/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 25/11/2023 HEADLINE: 51 week wait for the win - but we got there! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 0-1 WIN to city! REPORT: City turned up to Dereham and knew it was going to be a young, fast and energetic team, we knew what we needed to do and came in good spirits to do so. We started off strong, matching their game pace and energy, but found ourselves stuck in a short corner rut with 3 rolling on from one another, yet we came out unscathed. Dereham kept up the energy and took a shot on goal outside of the D, that Helen in goal was able to just get out of the way of, the ball rolling in to the goal and keeping us nil nil. And despite best efforts on both sides, that's how we went in to half time. We were upbeat though. The energy was high; we were pulling together as a team as we could feel the opposition becoming more and more frustrated and we fed off it. We knew if we kept our heads, we could actually keep this as a draw; we dare not dream of actually beating them! Back in after half time and we kept at them, we broke on the right hand side with a beautiful run from Saskia, feeding the ball in to Susannah who slotted it in the goal in the 46th minute and suddenly, we were winning this thing! We settled down, kept our heads, kept up energy and focus and fended off their best counter attacks on goal; rightly winning Simran POTM! The final whistle came and we had won!! One nil to city, a win after a 51 week drought and we went wild!!

L (1-2) 18/11/2023 - W5 vs Evergreens 1 (H / L) DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT ON THE LATE SHIFT |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 18/11/2023 VS EVERGREENS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 18/11/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 18/11/2023 HEADLINE: Disappointing defeat on the late shift LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 1-2 REPORT: We had the makings of a stellar team; 2 subs, 2 coaches and fire in our bellies and we went out there to win! We settled in to the game quickly, passing well, working together and within 9 minutes Corinne slotted the ball in to their goal from a sideline, tee'd up by Victoria - Perfect, one nil up! We didn't get cocky, we settled back down, carried on playing good, strong hockey - moving the ball around well and working hard as a team. The coaches kept spirits up and really helped us work together, cheering us on. Speaking of which, Evergreens found the back of our goal shortly after - and then we were tied going in to half time. The battle fought on in the second half, we held our own against 3rd place Evergreens and we never relented against their onslaught. We kept them at bay and we had some good attacks on their goal, but just weren't able to convert it. Short corner awarded against us in the last minute - and unfortunately, a tap in saw us lose the game with 3 seconds to spare. Gutted! A result that did not reflect the energy, drive and commitment of our team.

D (1-1) 07/10/2023 - W5 vs Harleston Magpies 6 (H / L) FIRST DRAW OF THE SEASON |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 07/10/2023 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 6 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 07/10/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 07/10/2023 HEADLINE: First draw of the season LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-1 REPORT: We turned up with only one sub and were ready for a tough but good run around. We were pleasantly surprised Harleston also only had one sub, and all of a sudden we really rather fancied our chances. We had good possession, passed the ball around and kept the opposition on their toes. Unfortunately, Harleston got a short corner and were able to convert it, but city didnt let it phase them. We fought back and with a beautiful run up the left wing, Lola found the back of their goal and we were drawing going in to half time. The first half had gone so well we chose to scrap the rotation for the 2nd half and repeat the fiest sub rotation. Energy was high, we kept spirits and energy up till the end and finished 1-1.

L (1-3) 30/09/2023 - W5 vs UEA 2 (A / L) DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT, ONLY MADE BETTER BY DOMINOES! |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 30/09/2023 VS UEA 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 30/09/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 30/09/2023 HEADLINE: Disappointing defeat, only made better by dominoes! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: UEA RESULT: L 3-1 REPORT: We turned up to UEA with high hopes. After our defeat last week we tweaked the formation and entered the game feeling strong and prepared. We passed the ball well, held shape and kept the youthful UEA on their toes. Despite our efforts, and some beautiful balls on the wing with our POTM Lola, we just weren't able to find their goal, and then they found ours - 0-1! Heads were down, but we tried to pull it back. It was still early on in the game and we were not done - but then they broke our defence and after a close fought battle right in front of the goal, they scored again 2-0. We went in to half time behind but determined. We came back with Sharon scoring the first game of the second half, and hopes were high that we could pull this one back 2-1. Shortly after whilst temporarily down to 10 players, they found our goal again and the final goal of the game went in. We held our own till the end, but our tired team of 12 struggled to battle their youthful 16 to the bitter end.

L (0-4) 23/09/2023 - W5 vs Carrow 1 (H / L) SHORT CORNER ASSASSINATION |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 23/09/2023 VS CARROW 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 23/09/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 23/09/2023 HEADLINE: Short corner assassination LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 0-4 REPORT: The team started off strong and had good possession keeping the ball in around Carrow's half, but couldn't quite find the goal. We continued to try to break their defense, but some strong direct passes between their players saw a counter on our goal and a short corner followed. Goal 1 conceded. And that's pretty much how the rest of the game continued. City putting in a concerted effort to attack Carrow's goal but not quite being able to convert anything and then a further 2 short corners conceded and converted, leaving city 3-0 down at half time. Emma roused the team at half time, giving some solid but simple advice on how we could strengthen our game play and we went back out there. One goal conceded in the second half, once again from a short corner, but generally we held them more at bay in the 2nd half, pulled together and got a good few breaks on Carrow. Not the score we wanted, not the score that reflected the hard slog that we all felt but we go again next week!

L (1-3) 16/09/2023 - W5 vs Norwich Dragons 4 (A / L) HOME DERBY DEFEAT |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 16/09/2023 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 16/09/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 16/09/2023 HEADLINE: Home Derby defeat LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 2-0 to Broadland REPORT: After a difficult week pulling the team together and securing a goalie, we arrived in good spirits and with surprisingly healthy numbers. We knew Broadland were going to be hard, but we were ready to give them a fight. Broadland started fast and powerful from the offset, winning a short corner only minutes in to the game and managing to convert it. We didn't let it stop us though, we fought back and kept our heads clear and focussed on the task in hand. We kept them honest, passed the ball well and held good position. We managed to get a short corner, which we thought we had converted it to get us to 1-1, but disallowed! City in uproar, but it was called! Heads up, we went again and powered through to half time, no further goals. Talks at half time were that we were doing the right things but had to persevere and hopefully it would come. We went back out there, kept energy and pace and kept Broadland on their toes. Unfortunately, another short corner came against us and another ball got torpedoed in to our goal. 2-0! City fought to the end, no let up, no negativity and we fought hard. Taking a final short corner in the final seconds saw the entire team on the edge of Broadland's D, and we battled to get that one goal back, but just wasn't to be. Final whistle came and we held our heads up - no field goals feels like a win to me.

L (2-3) 02/09/2023 - W5 vs Norwich City 4 (A / F) PRE SEASON CITY CLASH |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 02/09/2023 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 02/09/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 02/09/2023 HEADLINE: Pre season City clash LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: City 5s faced their first pre season friendly today against club mates in the 4s. It was a scorching afternoon but the play was full on from the start with attacks from both sides through the middle. Anna Horsley scoring a lovely goal from a run through the 5s defence. After lots of pressure at the other end from the 5s, the 4s managed to break away against the run of play and get a high ball up to Summer who scored at the far end. Playing quarters to help with the heat, following the break the 4s played some lovely inter passing from Susan and Amelie and the 5s managed to get another one in the net, again scored by Summer taking the score to 3-0. The 5s kept spreading the ball wide and bringing it around the back, forcing the 4s to move around. The 4s' pressure was coming mostly through the middle and the 5s struggled to get a handle on their close triangle play, managing to get around defenders and applying constant pressure. City 5s, however, never gave up and with continuing movement of play managed to spread the ball wide and back in towards inner Lucy Wimhurst who scored a lovely goal. This spurred the 5s on and there were continued passages of lovely passing play to get the ball in the D, which culminated in gaining a short corner. From the rebound, and after a bit of a scramble in the D, Marie Hood managed to sneak the ball past the keeper into the right hand corner. The game finished at 2-3 but a really good competitive game in the late summer heat.
