W (3-2) 30/11/2019 - W1 vs City Of Peterborough 1 (A / L) EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT! |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 30/11/2019 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: Early Christmas Present! LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Peterborough HC RESULT: 2-3 Win REPORT: NC Womens 1s travelled to high-flying Peterborough and the game was a midfield battle in the first 10 minutes, with Captain Ellie Brine, the returning Rachel Mayne and a great debut for Kate Houldey repelling the home attack. After a quick turnover and slick passing, on form Krystal Bishop found herself in the opposition circle and her hard pass across lead to a frantically retreating defender deflecting the ball pass her GK. 0-1 Not looking to sit back, high pressing Olivia Williams and Stacey Lee forced another turnover, leading to another finish by Krystal Bishop. 0-2. This woke up Peterborough and the defensive unit of Micayla Tootill, Suzy Edwards, Frankie Birkenhead and Fong Chung held firm. Great work by Hannah Jarvis and Rachael Phillips soon found NC back in the attacking 23m and great advantage play by the umpire, lead to Krystal Bishop skilfully batting a ball into the roof of the net to round off her hat-trick. 0-3. A shell-shocked Peterborough then played some outstanding hockey and reduced the deficit to 1-3 just before half-time. As expected, Peterborough came out after half-time at great pace and NC pinned into the defensive 23m, with great work by GK Mikayla Glover making great saves to keep them at bay. With a high press and greater urgency, the home side started to win a number of short corners and soon converted to make the score-line 2-3. The last 5 minutes became very frantic with most of the play being in our defensive 23m and wave after wave of attack we defended as a team to see out the game and rapidly descending fog to come away with a well deserved 3 points before the Christmas break. We would also like to thank our Men’s 2s who stayed behind for their fantastic support.

L (1-4) 30/11/2019 - W2 vs Ipswich 2 (H / L) BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 30/11/2019 VS IPSWICH 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: Bad Day at the Office LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-4 REPORT: A strong squad of 15 awaited our visitors from across the border. Ipswich arrived to a lovely sunny day in Norwich with ideal hockey weather! With the absence of our captain, Leigh-Ann Worrall, our vice captain, Rosie Humphrey took over the reins! Our warm up, this week, was taken by Lizzie Cheesman. It was fun and did the job of getting us in a good mood and ready to kick some butt. However this didn’t last long as Ipswich pushed hard in the first ten minutes and they managed to score! Before we knew it City were three down within a matter of 20 minutes – this was going to be a long match! Half time came and went and we were very positive that we could turn it around. One of our team strengths is that our heads don’t go down so we came out fighting. We started to play some really lovely free flowing hockey. Lovely interchanging passes were being made by our mid-fielders and forwards as they constantly placed pressure on the Ipswich’s defence. Our transfers around the back were working really well. With heavy pressure from our forwards we scored with Rosie Humphrey slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. Tensions were rising on both sides in the second half as we constantly pushed forward. We were by far the better team in the second half and the final score of 4-1 was not a fair reflection of how we played. Norwich played some lovely quality hockey and deserved to get something out of the game. But it wasn’t to be and we now await Christchurch next week. POTM: Karren Dagless

W (4-0) 30/11/2019 - W3 vs Reepham 1 (H / L) FRIENDLY FIXTURE STILL A WIN |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 30/11/2019 VS REEPHAM 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: Friendly fixture still a win Awakening early on Saturday, it was apparent that Jack Frost had been to TRF, with a glimmering top coat and crispy underfoot surface. A half-reluctant womens 3s team stepped out onto the pitch, and even Ali Wardale’s tash was glistening in the sunshine! We had a split decision whether to play or not so, just so that our lungs would burn in the cold air, we played a friendly against Reepham 1s! City were confident from the first touch of the ball and it was Emily Greenway who put the hosts ahead within just 30 seconds! Reepham did make an attempt to bang the ball back up via Danny Garwood who, as always, was their game maker. City's strategy to keep the lead was to make the ball do the work for them and save their effort for staying upright. Reepham made another counter attack and with a goalmouth scramble were awarded a penalty flick due to a foot on the line. City’s keeper and player of the match Serena Scott took her position. Both players were poised for the flick, and one push of the ball right, a dive to ground with stick extended from Serena, and the backboard failed to ring – penality flick saved! The Greenway sisters roared up the pitch for City, and some lovely passing hockey followed from Emily Spencer and Gemma Sargeant, through to Jenni Czerwinski and Kim Lusher. Great skills were also seen by Emily Leeming on the right, plus an appearance from Caroline Illing shaking a couple of moves up front. City worked hard to slot home the second goal, finished by Gabby Sharp. Now as a team we have waited all season for our equivalent of Kim Kardashian to score, and finally through a short corner her Christmas came early with a sweet straight strike at the keeper, who was blinded by the speed, and Kim Lusher was rewarded with a goal….thank god! Half time 3-0 after some solid play, just like the pitch. Shortly into the second half City’s keeper was called into action again with a one on one, cleanly taking the ball, for Gemma to then drive out the D. The visitors Reepham were still on nil. The fourth City goal started with Emily Leeming who had a beautiful run down the line with both hands on the stick sweeping the ball across into the D, finished off by Emily Greenway, to make it a 4-0 win for the hosts. Overall a good team run out.

W (8-0) 30/11/2019 - W5 vs Yarmouth 2 (A / L) A GREAT WIN IN SUNNY YARMOUTH |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 30/11/2019 VS YARMOUTH 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: A great win in sunny Yarmouth LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Great Yarmouth - Cliff High School RESULT: 8-0 REPORT:Having been unsure if the game would be cancelled due to weather, the call came and the game was on against Yarmouth 2s... the City Womens 5's were raring to go. City started off a little quieter than normal but soon the pace gathered and it became an attacking game. Lots of great switches across the defence and runs down the wings by Lucy McNarry resulted in the first goal by Sharon Philips. Amy Hinchliffe also had some great runs on the left with Maddie Smith and injecting in to the D and Olivia Broadway scored. Maria Marsh kept the ball on the move in mid field with great runs and passes too. Alli McLellan converted a short corner followed by another goal this time by Lucy McNarry with Sharon Phillips deflected a great pass from Olivia Broadway for the last goal of the first half. Half time result was 6-0. The second half was more tricky playing in to the sun and saw Yarmouth get a few breaks which kept our defence on their toes and Helen Lewis keeping any opportunities away from goal. Team spirit and better talking resulted in 2 more goals one from Allison McLellan's mighty strike at the top of the D and another by Maddie Smith who deflected a great ball in. Yarmouth 2s were great hosts. A great spirited game by both teams with the sun shining down on us, a very enjoyable game.

L (1-3) 30/11/2019 - M2 vs City of Peterborough 3 (A / L) CALAMITY CAPT UPSETS UMPIRE |

MENS 2ND XI - 30/11/2019 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: Calamity capt upsets Umpire LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Peterborough RESULT:lost 3-1 REPORT: City’s 2’s travelled to Peterborough unsure if the pitch would be playable due to a hard frost. On arrival apart from fog the pitch was fine, this uncertainty had clearly played on the 2’s mind as they went 2 goals down early on A reply by Hindle meant city went in at the interval 2-1 down. Some great runs from Jack Ingham, JCB & Jack Luther. Captain Ling was in the thick of action, along with Silvester matching the Peterborough back 4 in a physical battle. Unfortunately for all City’s possession, & never say die attitude right until the end. The 2’s were unable to make their chances count & were punished by a Peterborough break late on to make it 3-1 In a game where city clearly made an enemy of one umpire early on in the first half were always facing an uphill battle regards umpiring decisions. Great attitude from all players start to finish Competent displays from Elliot Fox, Fred, Bales show the future is bright. Roll on UEA & feel the backlash of this disappointing result!

W (4-3) 30/11/2019 - M3 vs Norwich City 4 (H / L) BRILLIANT AD FOR CITY FAMILY |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 30/11/2019 VS NORWICH CITY 4 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: Brilliant ad for City family LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: City 3s 4 - 3 City 4s REPORT: A sunny if cool day greeted the almost party atmosphere generated for this much awaited head to head. The 3s started well but looked to over complicate with fancy one touches replacing basic skills. That aside Will Kidner settled the “home” side’s nerves by scoring a good break away goal. The 4s playing with the maturity and experience you’d expect from Mark Bailey, Matthew Brine, John Ingham, Adie Land and a cameo from Josh Bailey and co. soon took control only by the sublime Luke Elwes in goal for the 3s. Land equalised only for Freddie Paterson to restore the 3s lead. 2-1 at half time. When Brine made it 2-2 it looked like a real upset was on the cards but the 3s then chose to play their best hockey with Reuben Cooke, and Adam Sayer clam in defence with Ed Taylor, Monty Platt, Alex Tomkinson and Will Kidner incisive at the heart of midfield. With less than ten minutes to go Freddie Paterson scored his second quickly followed by a Lloyd Sayer penalty corner to create what should have been some breathing space for the 3s but that’s not what inter-club derbies are about!!! Nathan Corden then made it 4-3 and with calmness thrown out of the window the 3s scrambled towards a deserved victory......final play a penalty corner to the 4s....oooh sooo close but....just wide. Great advertisement for how inter-club games should be played.

MENS 6TH XI - 30/11/2019 VS NORWICH CITY 7 (A) TEAM: Mens 6th XI DATE: 30/11/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 6th XI VS 30/11/2019 HEADLINE: LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 6 NORTH EAST VENUE:Taverham RESULT:won 4-1 REPORT: This was a good game between ourselves and the 7th team . We welcomed back Ady Marr into the team which improved our goal scoring potential. The first half was quite even but in the second half we became more more in control , which resulted in us winning 4-1 . Three goals were scored by Ady Marr on his return and one by Nick Chappallaz also worth a mention was a fantastic save by Josie Miller when he managed to push the ball off the line and round the post . For his three goals Ady Marr received man of the match
