W (6-0) 27/11/2021 - W2 vs Dereham 2 (H / L) DANCING IN THE RAIN |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 27/11/2021 VS DEREHAM 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 27/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 27/11/2021 HEADLINE: Dancing in the Rain LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE:TRF RESULT:6-0 Win City undertook an energetic warm up in glorious sunshine before the starting whistle signalled a dramatic change in weather. Despite this, City were focused on continuing their unbeaten run of games. Within the first 5 minutes of the game, City had won a penalty corner which was calmly converted with a stunning strike from Emily Francis, 1-0. The pressure on Dereham's defence remained high. A skillful run and strong strike by Lucy Walton, brushed the stick of Emma Hewitt before beating the Dereham keeper, 2-0. Dereham were finding it difficult to break down City's press and a lifted ball from a hit out into Rosie Humphrey, saw her shrug off the impact and beat the keeper one on one, 3-0 at half time. The second half saw much of the same fast paced hockey from City, with the ball moving effortlessly from left to right via Georgia Cleveland. Utilising the space at the top of the circle, City pulled the ball back from the baseline to a waiting Emily Francis, who slotted it home for her second goal of the match. However, City were not content with a four goal lead and an overlapping run from Ella Gill, saw her skillfully drive along the baseline and wrong foot the keeper for City's fifth. Still City remained lively, with some well timed leading runs from Milly Brown and Emily Leeming creating space in Dereham's circle for Hanna Hall to take advantage of. The defensive line of Ella Gill, Lucy Walton, Leigh-Ann Worrall and Sally Rose remained switched on to any Dereham attack and stifled all opportunities, redistributing the ball with pace and precision to City's attack. With the ball now spending much of its time in the attacking circle, crowding was becoming a problem. However, Rosie Humphrey was able to create her own space with a spin around the defender and pushed the ball into the bottom corner scoring City's sixth and final goal of the match. Such was the team performance that POM was well contested, with Danielle Sizer, Ella Gill, Hanna Hall and Lauren Lawrie all receiving an equal number of votes. Keeper Georgina Barrett managed to bag herself a POM vote (thanks to the trusty wheel!!) for keeping yet another clean sheet. Some beautiful hockey on display, despite the conditions. Next week City take on Magpies 4s looking to complete their clean sweep of the first round.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 27/11/2021 VS THETFORD TOWN 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 27/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 27/11/2021 HEADLINE: A wet and windy win! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-0 Win REPORT: A very wet and cold match today. We had several of our players playing in different positions so it took us a few minutes to settle but after first 10 minutes we where finding our way through to Thetford’s D. Some great runs from Amy Hinchliffe, Millie wimhurst and Sofia Hancy. The middle field did a cracking job at supporting and giving us the chance to switch sides for attack. Goal 1 was from a short corner. Perfectly injected from Millie Wimhurst and a straight strike from top of the D from Chloe Green in to the goal. The second goal came from Millie again who tapped it in to the goal from the right post thanks to a great pass from Jane Loughridge. The second half was goal less but not due to lack of opportunities unfortunately we didn’t manage to find the back of the goal. Emily Winter had a couple of near misses as did Amy Hinchliffe and Emma Guyton. Our super team managed to prevent Thetford from attacking too much. we did have one super save from Zara Hunter after a hockey stick slipped out of Alison McLellan's hands during a free hit !! Everyone did incredibly well today and a great team effort. Thetford did well in the cold and wet to keep a clean sheet in the second half.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 27/11/2021 VS LODDON 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 27/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 27/11/2021 HEADLINE: A Battle For First Place LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: Womens 6s started the match well with some strong passes in midfield. A couple of minutes into the game and we were already attacking on the Loddon goal. A strong pass from Esther Hamilton to right midfielder Esme Abbott saw the ball be taken into the D. A cross saw the ball fall to Liz Hollis who had a shot on goal. The Loddon GK managed to deflect that shot but it fell to Ellis Couzins who was standing on the P spot. A decisive lifted ball saw City score first. 1-0. Half way through the second half Loddon took a quick 16 and travelled the ball down the right hand side of the pitch. A clever ball to their right midfielder, who then took it around the city defence and scored an equalizer for Loddon. 1-1. Even before this game started City knew this was going to be a tricky game as both teams were first and second in the league. The rest of the first half was uneventful ending 1-1 with some good defending from Sarah Sandell, Rosie Crane, Sam Harvey and Alice Petch. The second half was very evenly matched with good chances for both City and Loddon. City had several short corner chances but were denied by some great saves from the Loddon goalkeeper. Midway through the 2nd half City has some good opportunities at the Loddon goal. One of these saw the ball be passed from a 16 by Sam Harvey to Lauren O'Hanlon on the left wing. The ball then travelled through the midfield via Mirha Kashif and Rosie Crane to Scarlett Rhoades just outside the Loddon D. A swift pass to Ellis Couzins at top D who threaded the ball through to Julia Marchant. An amazing goal was then scored letting City take the lead, 2-1. Towards the end of the 2nd half Loddon had a few good chances at the City goal. An amazing 1-1 save by Jo Di-Corpo kept City in the lead as well as some good defending by everyone in the team. City were relieved to hear the final whistle blow, and the game ended 2-1. POTM went to Mirha Kashif were so excellent work in midfield.

D (2-2) 27/11/2021 - M3 vs University of East Anglia 3 (H / L) BATTLING DRAW FOR CITY 3S IN APPALLING CONDITIONS |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 27/11/2021 VS UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 27/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 27/11/2021 HEADLINE: Battling draw for City 3s in appalling conditions LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: Despite the driving wind and rain, City 3s started well dominating possession with some slick passing. This pressure told when City 3s carved through the UEA defence, with Max McEwan linking well with Freddie Paterson, before passing to Max Wilson to finished sharply from 10 yards out. UEA’s response to going behind was swift, when a quick free hit from just outside the D allowed the UEA striker to score with a neat reverse stick finish. A harsh yellow card followed for Ethan Rushton when he was deemed to have tripped a UEA defender. City defended well with 10 men, with Jonty Down making a number of key tackles. Unfortunately, with only seconds of the sinbin left, UEA managed to break through the City defence, with the UEA strikers shot finding the back of the net via the post. City dominated the rest of the half, but were unable to find an equaliser, with the UEA keeper acrobatically saving an Oliver Millett shot. City continued to dominate the second half but were unable to convert several half-chances into goals. At the other end, City limited UEA to very few chances. Despite this, Tom Franks was called into action, with a sharp double save keeping a rare UEA short corner out. With time running out, a mazy Richard Silvester dribble won a short corner when one of several poor UEA tackles was penalised. The City short corner was worked to Clive Crichton, whose shot was cleared off the line, but onto a UEA defenders foot. City 3s took a no-nonsense approach to the next short corner with Ross Pitcher's first time strike equalising at the death with the ball arrowing into the bottom right corner of the goal. This was the last action of the game, with City 3s being relived to get a draw, but disappointed not to gain a win considering their dominance throughout the game.
