WOMENS 1ST XI - 27/11/2022 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 27/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 27/11/2022 HEADLINE: Bury buried by free scoring City LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: TRF RESULT: 8-0 W REPORT: After sharing the spoils with Old Loughts last week, City wanted to get back to winning ways against Bury. City were undefeated at home, scoring 23 and only conceding 3 in just 5 home games this season. City started strongly, using their possession to advance to Burys D. City had a flurry of short corners but Bury stood strong. Finally the deadlock was broken with a short corner executed by Flic Williams. The initial deflection was blocked, however, Fongy was on hand to slap in the loose ball. 1-0. Bury tried to instantly respond but City’s defence stood strong. City were unfazed and continued with their bread and butter; stretching the play from the back, using the wings to our advantage, and pressurising the bury defence from the front. This led to our second goal, a deep pass by Harriet Preston found Hannah Hall, who deflected a loopy ball into the path of Olivia Williams. With her first touch, Williams buried the ball into the bottom corner. 2-0. City were unlucky not to go into halftime with a bigger lead. HT: 2-0. City continued how they finished the first half; solid at the back, expansive in midfield, accompanied with an aggressive forward line. A City short corner resulted in a trademark Flic slider. The shot deflected onto the post, yet Emily Francis was perfectly positioned for a tap in. 3-0. Shortly after, City were awarded with another short corner. With her first strike saved, the rebound returned perfectly to Flic, who’s reverse stick shot looped over the goalie and into the top corner. 4-0. This gave City more momentum, and their high press was rewarded when a pass back to the Bury centre back was read by Krystal Bishop. Bishop tackled the Bury player before rounding the goalie and reversing it into the goal. 5-0. Shortly after, City scored from another short corner with Hall deflecting Flic’s pass into the bottom corner. 6-0. Bishop intercepted another Bury hit out, drawing the keeper out before finding Olivia and slapping it into an open goal. 7-0. Within the final minutes, another interception by Bishop, resulted to a two-on-one situation. Bishop passed to Olivia, who returned the pass into the D. Bishop got to the ball before the on rushing keeper and dribbled the ball into an empty goal. Final score 8-0. A solid performance by the whole team which they hope to replicate next week in the highly anticipated local derby with Harleston Magpies. Player of the match: Krystal Bishop

W (3-0) 26/11/2022 - W2 vs Cambridge University 2 (H / L) BACK WITH A BANG! |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 26/11/2022 VS CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 26/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 26/11/2022 HEADLINE: BACK WITH A BANG! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: Norwich City RESULT: 3-0 Win REPORT: After not quite the result we wished for against Wisbech last week, we came back out and played some excellent hockey to take the 3-0 win against Cambridge University. Within the first 5 minutes of the match we went 1-0 up, with Sophie Bendon scoring an absolutely fantastic goal off her reverse stick from the top of the D into the bottom right corner. Following the goal, our defence worked hard as Cambridge University tried to counter. Libby Thorne, Hannah Jarvis, Ella Gill and Gillian Allen made some lovely transfers round the back as we built the play up again, as well as Summer Haylock in goal making some vital saves. We won a couple of short corners in quick succession, with the second one being successful when we slipped right to Milly Brown, who put the ball perfectly back on the P spot for Rosie Ringer to sweep in, making the score 2-0 before half time. The second half showed some of the best hockey we have played so far this season, with the whole team showing excellent work rate and determination. We formed some brilliant triangles in the midfield with Georgia Cleveland, Emily Leeming,Sophie Sidgwick, Helen Harper, Lauren Lawrie and Helen Busfeild finding some great space to put the ball into for the forwards to run on to. Our third goal came when Emma Hewitt fired the ball in which deflected off Milly Browns stick and went up, then from the top of the D, Rosie Ringer volleyed the ball into the goal. Everyone played brilliantly, and secured the well deserved win. Thank you very much to the umpires who where excellent.

D (4-4) 26/11/2022 - W3 vs Loddon 1 (H / L) CITY 3S BATTLED HARD FOR A WELL DRESERED 4-4 DRAW |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 26/11/2022 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 26/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 26/11/2022 HEADLINE: City 3s battled hard for a well dresered 4-4 draw LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: DRAW 4-4 REPORT: City 3s went into the match against Loddon confident they could get a win. Evie Brockington opened the scoring for City but Loddon didn’t take long to get one back. City were under pressure from some good passing and teamwork from Loddon. However a fantastic reverse stick strike from Charlie Hudson-Madge just before the half-time whistle meant we went into the break 2-1 up. City aimed to stretch their lead at the start of the second half but were to be disappointed as Loddon not only equalised but went on to score 2 more goals in quick succession. City kept fighting and never gave up and got several penalty corners. Charlie Hudson-Madge scored a great goal off one of these to add to her tally. With less than 10 minutes to go another penalty corner was awarded and although it didn’t go as we had planned somehow Lucy McNarry edged the ball over the line to even the score up at 4-4. An exciting game and another point for City as they extend their unbeaten streak to 3 games!!!

L (0-8) 26/11/2022 - W5 vs Dereham 2 (H / L) A BRUTAL ONSLAUGHT |
---|
WOMENS 5TH XI - 26/11/2022 VS DEREHAM 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 26/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 26/11/2022 HEADLINE: A brutal onslaught LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE:TRF RESULT:L0-8 REPORT: After a rousing pre-match speech from our fabulous captain Amy Hinchliffe; City 5s took to the pitch for a slightly delayed pushback. From the outset, we knew we were in for a tough game against Dereham 2s who are near the top of our league. Our aim was to keep the score line below double figures. Dereham 2s, a well drilled and resourceful side, intercepted our passes early and pushed hard into our half. As in previous weeks, we were on the defensive foot within minutes. An early goal conceded set the tone for the match as defenders: Emma Guyton, Karen Hobden, Allison McLellan and Annette Peters found themselves fighting a heroic but relentless onslaught in the D. Excellent tackles from Alli and Karen gave our hard working keeper Jo Di-Corpo breathing space for a few minutes. Finally, our awesome midfield players were allowed a look in, Sofia Hancy used her roll outs effectively to get herself out of trouble on numerous occasions, bouncing balls to our co-captain Chloe Green. Chloe's strength and ball possession keep us in the game briefly before Dereham turned the ball over and responded to our 'glimmer of hope' of getting out of our half with a second goal. Fresh legs in the form of Rose Byrne and Amy Hinchliffe allow us to fight back again. Rose times her tackles well and always applies pressure to the player she is marking forcing Dereham to make a brief mistake and allowing Jane Loughridge and Esme Abbott to break through and make a run for goal. Esme, whose speed allows her to outpace her opposition, found that despite getting ahead, Dereham defence were quick to react and surround her. Two more goals were our punishment for trying to break through Dereham's unbreakable line, even the lightning reflex's of Jo weren't enough to stop several skillful attackers taking advantage of gaps in our marking and hammering goals home. At this point Dereham's keeper sits on her backboard ;) Half time score 5-0 to Dereham. City are not at all disheartened by the score line during their half time chat. Excellent advice from Ellie Alderton and Alistair Wardale at half time allow us to restructure and re-group for our second half. We came out firing and finally break into Dereham's D earning ourselves a short corner and finally a strong chance on goal. Ellie takes a lovely strike which is deflected by a Dereham player. Beverley Cushion comes into her element, fighting for every ball whilst it was in Dereham's half, even finding a pass that was 'on' from her position on the floor. It just was not to be today though, Dereham broke through again, their skillful attackers taking barely a touch to ping the ball round our D resulting in another impressive deflection goal. In our determination to keep the score line below double figures we dug deep and fought tooth and nail for every ball. After a couple of amazing saves again by Jo, the final whistle went with a final score of 8-0 to Dereham. City 5s however are not at all downhearted by this result, we all played out hearts out and were beaten by a stronger Dereham side. As the underdogs in this league, we are extremely pleased if we play well and enjoy our game which we certainly did today. POTM Emma Guyton.

MENS 1ST XI - 27/11/2022 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 27/11/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 27/11/2022 HEADLINE: Record Taverham Attendance at a Superb Showcase for Norfolk Hockey LEAGUE: CONFERENCE MIDLANDS VENUE: Taverham Recreational Facility RESULT: 1-2 Loss REPORT: The clubhouse was hussling and bustling from midday in anticipation of the coming together of 2 Norfolk forces. An attendance close to 200 were treated to the rain departing and some great hockey arriving. Neither side in control, both sides creating half chances but the defence of either team were equal to all advances. With Chris Leek making multiple saves for Magpies as well as Tom Harris & Harry Brown marshaling the City D extremely Well and Harry Gill chasing down the first Magpies short corner of the game. Q1: 0-0. Early In the 2nd quarter a Sam Hyatt turnover into Harry Gill who ran the length of the field and Sam followed it all the way and was on hand to receive the ball back but narrowly miss wide after his epic effort. A few moments later Harry Gill passed to Chris wardale who quickly moved the ball onto jonty back who forced a good save from Chris Leek. Soon after Magpies midfield found themselves in acres of space and with a quick 1-2 out wide and ball into the top of the D for a quick slap towards goal they had a 1-0 lead. HT: 0-1. Norwich had the possession and had the speed of attack but were struggling to win shorts or put anything towards goal that Magpies weren't equal to. With Harry Gill, Jonty Black, Ben Chapman and CamCooke all forcing saves. Magpies had some goo attacks of their own, with the game very much still in the balance and Alastair Cooke made some saves of his own. Shortly before halftime Harleston won their 2nd short corner of the game and Sam Crawford dragged into the right hand side netting for a 2-0 Magpies lead at the end of Q3. Norwich still battled on were getting turnovers in good positions but the final finish still lacking. With 10minutes to go City won their first Short corner of the game and after a deflection from Elliot Hibell thought they'd got on the scoresheet but a great save from Chris Leek kept his net empty. Thankfully 2 minutes later Elliot had won a 2nd short corner and Cam Cooke gladly dragged in for 1-2 scoreline with plenty time left for a 2nd. Norwich pushed on but Mgapies continued to Marshall their D effectively and it remained 1-2 to end. An Incredible afternoon of Hockey. Thank you to all who came and made it a great spectacle. Rounding off a super 1st half of the season. Well earned Christmas break before we go again in Febaruary 2023.

L (0-3) 26/11/2022 - M3 vs Norwich Dragons 1 (A / L) YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LOOKING BRIGHT |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 26/11/2022 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 26/11/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 26/11/2022 HEADLINE: Youth development looking bright LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons RESULT: Norwich City 3s 0 - 3 Dragons 1s REPORT: The Norwich City Third Team travelled away to Dragons First Team with a young side. Playing a new formation the young team coped well with the dragons side. Alvin Muthi was always dangerous down the right hand side as were the City forwards of James Mackenzie, Dan Jeffers and Corey Rushton. Corey could even have put Norwich City ahead if it had not been for a fabulous save from the Dragon’s Keeper. Dragons hopeful long and aerial balls were easily dealt with by the experienced back division of Simon Black, Jason Hyatt , Adam Sayer and the not quite so experienced Ben Hawes. Tom Franks, who had been expecting to have to pull off a few special saves was hardly tested at all. Sadly in two minutes of madness just before half time. Norwich conceded possession in their own half and conceded two soft goals. The second half was much the same as the first with Dragons struggling to deal with our young team. The quick hands or Harry Morgan, Charlie Hutchinson, Kieran Shapcott and Sam Hancock always creating difficulties for dragons and Norwich controlled much of second half. Norwich did concede a controversial third shortly before the end of the match. The result did not reflect the play and although the Norwich Team probably didn’t deserve to will the 3-0 score line seems a little harsh. It was a very good performance again one of the top sides in the league.
