City new Bury we’re going to be a tough match following their previous results and the match showed it, 70 minutes of determination from both sides. City were off to a tricky start with Ella Gill injured in the first 30 seconds and six of their usual squad unavailable to play that week meant they only had two subs. That said, it didn’t take long for Stacey Lee to find the back of the net! Some excellent movement up the wings from Harriet Preston and Alice Gill put pressure on Bury’s defence. City scored their second goal from a classy short corner routine with Alice sliding in to deflect a classic Flic Williams pass in, so classy! Bury had some skilful forward players who they left high and which meant City were reliant on their legs to get back and defend on the break, hard work for the midfield players. Hannah N remained calm and collected at the back with support from Hannah Jarvis, Flic, Ella, Harriet and Sophie Mullan and superb keeping from Summer H Bury had a hard time but managed to find the net twice. Neck and neck City didn’t give up and The forward Line up, Rosie Ringer, Ellie Brine, Oli Williams, Emily Francis and Stacey Lee were causing mayhem with excellent runs, movement, dummies and determination. Stacey Lee once again, quick footed, decisive and with only one thing in mind brought the score to 3-2 for City. A hard fought match, some injuries and a whole lot of hockey and City keep their spot at top of the league! Pom: Sophie Mullan

Entering the game with a reduced squad, City 2s started the game well, dominating possession and creating multiple chances within the first 10 minutes. The strong press and early persistence, allowed City 2s to win an short corner, which was converted by Amelie Thomas after a smart decision by captain Leigh-Ann Worrall to slip left. Good chances came for both sides and City 3’s converted a shot from the top of the “D” to bring the score level. The 2’s kept their heads held high and after some good midfield battles and smart attacking play, the 2s soon regained their advantage with in form Rosie Humphrey scoring from a broken down short corner.  
 
After some strong words at half time, the 2’s started the second half well, with Georgia Cleveland, Sally Rose and Ellie Hobden working tirelessly in the midfield. Despite winning multiple short corners and creating several chances, the 2s struggled to convert and add to their lead. Sally Rose, Mia Moore and Mia Edmond found themselves in some great positions and Kate Houldey had a lovely reverse shot at the top of the “D” but the 2’s remained unable to extend their winning position.  
 
Entering into the last five minutes, City 2’s broke down play in the middle of the pitch allowing Milly Brown to thread a ball through to Rosie Humphrey who confidentially placed the ball into the right corner of the goal.  
 
After some smart game management by City 2’s to run down the final minutes of the game, the final score ended 1-3. A well deserved and hard fought victory for the 2’s.  
 
Special mention to Sabina Baker, Mia Edmond and Amelie Thomas who all stepped up to play for the 2’s today and who all had great individual performances.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 24/10/2020 VS NORWICH CITY 2 (H)

REPORT: 
NCHC 3s played host to the clubs 2nd team on the first dry Saturday we had enjoyed all season so far. The pressure was on the opposition to win, so the 3s were keen to make them work hard to secure those sought after points.  
Having put together a "cunning plan" with coach Nick Hooper and captain Gemma Sargent, the 3s set about trying to frustrate the 2s, neutralising some of their key players by marking them out of the game. 
 
Both teams started strong, with end to end play for the opening 10 minutes of the game. The plan was going well until a short corner was conceded and unfortunately converted. City 3s were quick to respond though when Emma Richardson threaded a superb ball through to Ellie Alderton who, despite receiving a stick to the face in the process, was able to tuck the ball neatly into the corner of the goal. 
 
City 3s continued to work hard, with a number of strong runs down the right wing from player of the match Lucy McNarry, beating not one, not two, but three players at a time. With some excellent work in the attacking 'D' by Olivia Greenway and Gabby Sharp, the 3s were afforded several short corner attempts of their own, but were unable to convert. Returning to the team for her first game this season, half back Jenny Brine was soaking up a barrage of attacks from the opposition forwards down the left hand side of the pitch, and Kim Cleave was doing the same on the right. With the pressure building and a number of further short corners to defend, keeper Molly Gromett was beaten at the near post and the 2s were able to take the lead again before the half time whistle. 
 
The 2nd half saw renewed vigour from both teams and the 3s were determined to stick to the game plan, egged on by the hoards of socially distanced supporters cheering them on. Hannah Sanger, Lauren Lawrie and Jennifer Czerwinski worked tirelessly in the middle of the pitch to break down the opposition attacks and Jess Taylor-Balls and Lydia Ellis-Baumber remained strong at the back, aided by the direction and experience of Karren Dagless. It was only in the dying moments of the game that the 2s were able to exploit a gap in our otherwise impenetrable defence and extend their lead, making the final score 1 -3.

REPORT: 
Great team spirit kept us strong in a fast paced game against the athletic UEA 2’s with City’s young players and legs keeping the forward line strong. Great passing between Rosie Wharton, Emily Hicks on the right wing and from Hanna Hall gave City the opportunities but the UEA 2’s intercepted well. A few breaks saw UEA 2’s take the opportunity to score the first goal of the game. City were determined to get a goal back and soon after a great pass by Rosie Wharton was deflected in by a very happy Sue Tomlinson. City came back fighting and despite great defending by Anna Linsmith in goal and Gillian Allen and Jess Tunnard another goal was scored by UEA 2s taking the half time score to 1:2 to UEA 2’s. The second half was City’s half with great passes round the back from Lucy Walton and Vicky Myhill, we pressed hard quickly, took the opportunities and with great leads by Maria Marsh, and team play, goals soon followed with one from Emily Hicks and two from Rosie Wharton with the final score being 4:2 to City. Rosie Wharton was our POTM in this well fought game. Well played everyone. 
 
 

WOMENS 5TH XI - 24/10/2020 VS DEREHAM 3 (H)

REPORT:  
Despite the chilly weather, it was a competitive, great game of hockey from both NCHC women’s 5s and Dereham women’s 3s. NCHC kicked off well with Caitlin Nicholson scoring from a short corner just into the first half. Lovely first half for city, energetic, lots of strong passing, great structure and form held. Shortly after the half time break Dereham came back strong with a goal. City didn’t allow that to get them down, more awesome hockey and loads of brilliant saves from Zara Hunter - our incredible goalie! Confident defending from Allison Mcellan, Annette Peters and Olivia Hill (our POTM) kept the game to a 1-1 result. Multiple attacking opportunities from both City and Dereham, however brilliant keeping from both sides too. It was a lovely and positive game, our newest face Annabelle Royal played super well on the right throughout the game. Well done everybody!

REPORT: 
City 6s faced a strong team with Dragon 7's, who had a strong attack and great short corner routines.  
 
As a friendly we went into the game looking to practice and implement elements covered in training in anticipation for our next league games. This got us a couple of shots on goal and closes chances with deflections.  
 
Defence had another hard week with difficulty blocking the ball before it reached the D as Dragons were able to pop it round us and work in pairs. Our goalie Joanne Di-Corpo had a lot of one on one situations and really took control and saved many shots.  
 
Esme Abbott had a great game and got nominated POTM. Playing in right mid field is a great position for her and even though she had a knock on both knees she kept up her motivation, drive and speed to be a crucial part in getting the ball up.  
 

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 24/10/2020 VS EAST COAST (A)

REPORT: Despite being down to just 11 players rather than their usual squad of 16, Norwich city girls started the match against East Coast girls in a positive manner. The first goal came within a few minutes when Katie Smith slotted in a powerfully driven cross from Grace Hanworth-Knights, following one of Grace’s skilful runs through several opposition players. Evie Brockington took a free hit quickly and dribbled towards the circle before picking out Grace Hanworth-Knights who hit an impressive reverse stick shot to score City’s 2nd goal. Isabelle Lloyd grew in confidence down the right wing and was involved in some great passing moves especially with City’s Player of the Match, Amelie Horsley. Amelie, still an under 12, showed great positioning in defence, stopping every attack and picking up any loose ball. Millie Power scored City’s 3rd goal, assisted by Grace who was also instrumental in setting Katie Smith up to score the next 2 goals. A hat-trick for Katie! City up by 5-0 at half-time.  
Olivia Kazimierczak scored City’s first goal after half-time showing good strength on the ball. Niamh Rushton, playing further forward in the second half, made some excellent attacks and Emily Morton was unlucky not to score. Grace Hanworth-Knights added to her tally with another reverse stick shot and Niamh Rushton finished off a lovely move involving many players in the circle. Thank you to Anna Horsley for stepping in to help the defence out for the first half. And thanks as always to Jessica Westbury in goal. Not much action for Jessica again - despite the team trying to involve her with a pass back to her...the less said about that part of the game the better!!! 
 

MENS 1ST XI - 24/10/2020 VS CHELMSFORD 1 (A)

HEADLINE: Norwich make hard work of it, but maintain 100% start in Chelmsford 
LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A 
VENUE: Chelmer Park 
RESULT: 5-3  
 
REPORT: 
A deceptively long journey due to the lack of quality roads in norfolk but a place we're more than familiar with after a 1-0 win there in pre season 7 weeks ago. We were looking for simialr fortunes yesterday. 
 
And despite a start were we had 80% possession in the first 10 minutes we found ourselves 2-0 down after Chelmsford forced plenty of errors and broke quickly on 3/4 occasions to score a flick from a short corner and an open hit from the top of the D.  
 
We were shocked to say the least but we all knew we had more to give and slowly eased into the game. And finally after continuing to maintain possession we strung together more than 3 passes and with some quick play in the D from Cam Cooke, Chris Wardale and a lovely dive at the back post from Jack Ingham we were back in the game. 2-1. 
 
And 2 Short Corners later it was all square as Cam Cooke slipped to Tom Cooke who slapped home. Unfortunately Chelmsford retook the lead before HT, NC fairly happy to go in 1 down after how we'd started. 
 
Rousing team talk from Marts and the team in agreement that we could do better in every part of our game, we begun the second half and what a stunning display it was. 
 
Tom cooke secured a quality brace with a slap from the top of D this time. Cam Cooke added to his brother's goal to compete the comeback with a superb individual effort after a bad touch taking him out the D he then beat 3 defenders and reversed calmly into the bottom corner for a fantastic way to take the lead with 20 minutes to go. 
 
The lead was extended a few minutes later when we saw the first Norwich city hattrick for the long time feature in the Mens 1s Tom Cooke and a MOTM to go alongside, well deserved after a complete performance to assist in defending, often being the starting point for attacks and obviously being there to score 3 well deserved goals.  
 
For the first time we managed to keep our 2 goal margin and not make it hard in the final stages and were fortunate to have a calm and assured defensive wall that chelmsford couldnt break. Ended 5-3. 
 
Fantastic recovery after being 2 down inside 10 minutes, many teams wouldve thrown in the towel but with a superb 2nd half we more than deserved the full 3 pts, maintaining our strong position in the league. Bring on Southend coming to us next week! 
 
 

MENS 2ND XI - 24/10/2020 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 4 (H)

RESULT: 3-1 Loss 
 
REPORT: 
Sadly the Mens 2s could not bounce back following last weeks defeat away to Pelicans. A very poor start to the game meant the 2s were 2-0 down inside 10 minuets. A good fightback meant that we started to dominate possession towards half time and despite creating several half chances and penalty corners City trailed 2-0 at the break.  
 
Into the second half and despite loosing Fox to a yellow card City fired home a deserved goal from Jeremy Elliott. City pushed hard for an equaliser and somehow Josh Bailey couldn't find the goal scoring touch at the far post to bring City level. City who had over 80% of possession in the half as well as creating several half chances sadly missing the cutting edge and didn't score a deserved equaliser. As luck would have it Cambridge then scored with the first shot of the second half as a bouncing cross was missed by a City defender and scored at the far post.  
 
Full Time 3-1 to Cambridge but certainly closer than the scoreline suggest and frustrating to loose a game when a side has a total of 5 shots against you. We will pick our heads up and look forward to a trip to Cambridge Nomads on Saturday.  

MENS 3RD XI - 24/10/2020 VS DEREHAM 3 (A)

REPORT: 
City arrived in Dereham looking to continue their very strong start to the season. We started well, good movement up front and quick passing put City up 5-0 at half time. The second half started in the same vein with a 6th goal added quickly after the restart, however 15 minutes of madness including three cards, two injuries and a converted penalty stroke by Dereham left City somewhat rattled. We soon regained our stride though, adding three more goals before the final whistle to ensure a comfortable win. Goals from Rees Leonard, Adie Land, Rio Iaccarino and Tom Hindle made the final score 9-1 to City, although it could have been more.

REPORT: 
The 5s travelled to Harleston Magpies for a difficult game with no keeper and some new players in the team. The first half started with an end to end battle where neither team could control the game effectively. This resulted in two early short corners which sadly meant Norwich were down 2-0. In the last 10 minutes of the first half, City changed their tactic slightly were able to press Magpies, and with a goal from Matthew Roy meant City ended the first half 3-1. 
 
An honest conversation at half time meant the first 20 mins were positive and City managed to score again to make it 3-2. However the last 15 mins, Magpies continued to press, City heads dropped and final score was 5-2. 
 
A hard battle by City, special mention to Harvey who worked very hard and tried to help in midfield as much as possible.

REPORT: we had a good squad for this fixture against Sudbury which resulted in a 6-2 win . Goals were scored by the following Haren Patel 2 , Jack Luther 2 , Nigel Cushion 1 and Nick Hooper 1 . Geoff Spencer was man of the match. .

REPORT: 
UEA fielded a stronger team than in the pre-season friendly and took the lead inside two minutes and for the next fifteen minutes exerted significant pressure, but City held strong and then started to come back into the game. Having gained a foothold City eventually equalised and then took the lead with goals from Alex Marjoram and Harsharan Singh. With the match drawing to a close UEA snatched an equaliser and a share of the spoils.
