D (3-3) 23/11/2019 - W1 vs Dereham 1 (H / L) SIX GOAL THRILLER END IN STALEMATE |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 23/11/2019 VS DEREHAM 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 23/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 23/11/2019 HEADLINE: Six Goal Thriller End in Stalemate LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: 6 Goal thriller ends in stalemate Norwich City were hoping to pick up 3 points against local opposition Dereham at TRF on Saturday. The home team started the brighter, applying plenty of pressure on the visitors from the first whistle. They enjoyed the lion share of possession and converted this into the opening goal when Olivia Williams beat the Dereham keeper with a reverse strike. City were buoyed by their lively opening and continued to pressure the opposition with some good link up play. However, Dereham then started to find their feet in the game and were on the receiving end of a stroke after the ball hit a City defender’s foot on the line. The Dereham taker made no mistake in converting from the spot. Undeterred, City stuck to their game and continued to look for the next goal. Stacey Lee was to break the deadlock after picking up the ball at the top of the D, beating the oncoming defenders and dispatching a shot into the roof of the net, leaving the half time score 2-1. Dereham started the stronger of the two sides in the second half and started to dominate possession at times as city struggled to work the ball out from the back. The visitors took advantage of their pressure with two goals in quick succession to turn the game on its head. City were determined not to let the game slip away and pushed once again to get back into the game with time now running out. Eventually, after some great movement and link up play between Williams and Lee meant Lee found herself at the top of the D in the final minutes of the game. She took her opportunity and accurately finished in the top right corner, beyond the reach of the Dereham goalkeeper. Unfortunately, time ran out for a winning goal to be found leaving the final score 3-3.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 23/11/2019 VS UEA 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 23/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 23/11/2019 HEADLINE: City Battle for a Point LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: UEA RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: The game started off unexpectedly as UEA scored early on in the first few minutes. We then upped our defending and kept the ball away from the goal. Unfortunately Leigh-Ann Worrall received a head injury and couldn’t play for the rest of the game. With some good possession we got it up the pitch with Mia Moore scoring a great goal on the post leaving us 1-1. The second half was better with us having more possession than in the first half. UEA had more shots in the second half and Frankie Birkenhead made a cracking save on the goal line. With both Karren Dagless and Birkenhead doing some dream defending, Helen Busfield making some great passes throughout the game and Lizzie Cheesman making some lovely runs up pitch scoring our second goal. UEA had a few short corners and with one of the short corners we ended up 2 down, Karren Dagless and Sally Rose held it together, UEA had a shot but hit it wide. Helen was also hit in the jaw with a hockey ball and wasn’t pleased about it but kept strong and carried on! At the final whistle the score was a 2-2 draw. A well fought match. POTM: Sophie Turner

WOMENS 3RD XI - 23/11/2019 VS PELICANS 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 23/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 23/11/2019 HEADLINE: Goals galore LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Lynn Sport (away) RESULT: 1-9 (win) REPORT: City started off slow, after a long drive to Kings Lynn to face Pelicans 2s. Both teams had equal possession in the first 10 minutes, but City converted first after Emily Greenway put the ball through to Emily Leeming for a deflection on goal. Shortly after the opening score, captain Kim Lusher found Jenni Czerwinski, who attacked the left side of the pitch straight into the D, scoring an impressive second goal for City. A third came from a short corner straight strike attempt from Kim Lusher, whose shot was saved straight out to player of the match Olivia Greenway, for her to push the ball through the keeper’s pads and onto the backboard. Olivia then got the next two goals in quick succession. With a few minutes left of the first half, Gabby Sharp slotted another away, making the half time score 0-6 to the visitors. Within the first few minutes of the second half, Jenni Czerwinski set up Olivia Greenway to flick the ball over the keeper into the goal. Pelicans did not give up, despite being seven goals down, making hard work for City’s midfield and defence. The hosts then sneaked a goal past Serena Scott, who deserved to have a clean sheet. Emma Richardson fed the ball to Gemma Sargent, who ran down the right and crossed the ball to Olivia Greenway on the post for another score. Gabby Sharp assisted the last goal of the game, hitting the ball from a short corner attempt, for Olivia Greenway to deflect it in for her sixth goal of the game. Final score 1-9 City.

We then had a few chances and were unlucky to not draw level from a fine piece of open play. By the end of the first half we were 2-0 down as UEA scored a late goal. We began the second half strong putting the opposition under lots of pressure causing them to make more mistakes. The ball spent more time in their half of the pitch which resulted in us scoring. We defended well stopping UEA from scoring any more goals. Everyone played well and kept on going baring in mind we had no substitutes. Player of the match - Kristina Black

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Dereham Hockey Club RESULT:8-1 Win REPORT: From the outset City team spirits were running high and were keen to get a head start on the game. After 5 minutes, great team passing, calling and running in to space resulted in our first goal from Olivia Broadway. We kept strong and held our game but a lucky break saw Dereham get a goal shortly after that. Allison McLellan kept the team talking and great work by the defenders kept most shots away from goal with Zara Hunter saving any that got past the defence as there were some close calls as Dereham fought back after a goal from Maria Marsh. At half time the result was 3-1. In the second half great team play by City continued using the width of the pitch well, great runs down the wings (both on the left and right), good passing and seizing opportunities resulted in another 5 goals from Charlotte Jeffers, Amy Hinchliffe, Carey Briggs and Lucy McNarry. Everyone played so well. What a game!

W (4-1) 24/11/2019 - LV vs City of Peterborough O45 (H / O45 T1 R1) THE 'OLD GIRLS' SHOW 'EM HOW IT'S DONE! |

WOMENS MASTERS XI - 24/11/2019 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH O45 (H) TEAM: Womens Masters XI DATE: 24/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens Masters XI VS 24/11/2019 HEADLINE: The 'Old Girls' show 'em how it's done! LEAGUE: VENUE: TRF RESULT: 4-1 REPORT: A 15 strong squad and highly organised management team turned out on a gloomy Sunday afternoon to take on Peterborough. Moral was high and so were some of the players on the Deep Heat from the changing rooms. After 3 attempts to get the ‘City’ call in unison they headed out onto the pitch. Unsure of how strong the opposition were going to be City started well and began to gel as a team relatively quickly. There was quite a lot of end to end play but City dominated with determined tackling and some good movement around the area which saw Liz Hollis put the first goal away with a reverse stick shot. This seemed to fire Peterborough up a bit and they came back with more strength and determination to put City’s defence under pressure. Several short corners later City stayed strong and prevented Peterborough getting anything, other than frustrated. With an “I want the ball taken ‘here’ not ‘there’” umpire at one end and a strange Korean at the other, combined with hand gestures from a feisty City defender the decisions were always going to be interesting and contested throughout. The half time break gave City management a chance to supercharge the enthusiasm of the team still further and combined with several packets of sweets and painkillers City went out to do battle again. City upped the pressure again in the second half not allowing Peterborough to gain any advantage from their ‘long ball’ style of game, quickly shutting them down with any spills at the back cleared and moved out of danger by a cool calm defence, an encouraging “get the ball out!” from Serena and a well-aimed boot for any issues in the goal area. Determination and persistence saw City score 3 more goals; Julia being in the right place (aka goal hanging) to put a lovely crossed ball behind the keeper, Caroline with a deflection at the P shot and Liz picking up her second goal from a scrap on the goal line. Peterborough nicked a consolation goal after winning a short corner in the dying moments of the second half to ruin City’s clean sheet. All in all a great team performance and thanks to all our supporters and management. Now on to the next round with some Dragons to be slain..

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2-1 Win REPORT: City v Dereham is always a good encounter and this was no different. Dereham turned up with a mixed bag of youth and experience and took the lead early on. City rallied however with two good finishes from Richard Silvester to take a 2-1 lead into the break. City created plenty of chances but couldn't convert in the second half which left a nervy finish but City did enough to take all 3 points.

MENS 3RD XI - 23/11/2019 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 23/11/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 23/11/2019 HEADLINE: Early start undoes City youth LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Culford School RESULT: Bury 2s 5 - 0 Norwich City 3s REPORT: An early mornings no start for this Norwich team with a pushback at Culford at 10:00! The City line up was made up of a young squad (9 players 18 or under) of mainly midfield and forwards whilst a defence of more experienced players. Bury me n the weather ther hand were set out with more experienced players and three or four youngsters. With some bleary eyes City started the match playing with some cool trolls and plenty of possession. Bury seemed a little slower out f the blocks, but as the half c ntnued it became a more even match and had City managed to get into the D we would have been able to take control. Toby Pallister did make t into the Dand had a lovelyreverse Street ck shot saved by their young (ish) keeper. It was soon after that a shot across our goal was tapped in by a Bury player who had lost his marker and was left unmarked at the back post! City were very much still in the game as the second half started but it was a more determined and experienced Bury team that came out in this half, quicker into the tackles and to any losses balls. As the pressed harder we became more flustered and received first a green card then lost the ever influential Ben Chapman to an eye injury. Thanks to the awesome City medical staff (Doctrs A and H McCall) he was soon patched up and back on the pitch. No sooner had Ben returned then we were reduced to 10 as the umpire didn’t find Ed Taylor’s football keepie uppie skills as funny as the cricket we or indeed all the players. These interruptions were not good for us and Bury managed to score three goals as we reorganised. As if to rub salt in the City wounds Bury made it 5 in the dying minutes. As a team City have many talented and experienced players, most of whom play and train at different schools during the week but rarely together. This does mean that we don’t always have the knowledge in terms of where our team mates might be that some of the more established and stable opponents seem to have. Huge thanks to man of the match Luke Elwes for putting this report together and for his countless saves throughout the season to date.
