As the pitch defrosted both Norwich & Dragons began their warm up preparing themselves for a hard, competitive game ahead. Dragons pushed up big with fast passing. Norwich worked together well to defend with a strong back line with Leigh Ann, Libby & Hannah holding strong as well as norwich goalkeeper, Summer making some great saves. Norwich were unable to clear all the shots as Dragons scored their first goal against the back board through a well drilled short corner routine. Norwich did their best to attack from the front with shots slightly off target but still putting pressure on the dragons defence, by forwards Sophie, Milliy, Rosie & Emma. Another couple of breaks by dragons forwards resulting in two further goals. Half time 3-0 to dragons Norwich came in hard and ready to fight back. With sharp passing through the centre line by Helen, Georgia, Emily, Alice and Lauren. Moving to the forward line who were able to make some trouble in the attacking D. The norwich defence were still on high pressure from dragons with a number of over loads. Rosie, Hannah & Libby stayed strong and worked well as a back line to slow down the attack, keeping the ball out of the goal. Along with some amazing one on ones by Summer who took the ball off the dragons players with ease. Norwich played a much better second half were able to keep it 0-0. Full time 3-0 POM- Hannah Jarvis

WOMENS 6TH XI - 21/01/2023 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 21/01/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 21/01/2023 HEADLINE: Disappointing defeat at home LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 0- 2 REPORT: Fielding 15, we went in to today thinking anything was possible but knowing, it wasn't going to be easy against the team sitting 3rd in the league. We started off well, matching North Norfolk in possession and energy and for a while both teams kept a clear score sheet. We fended off 2 short corners and didn't allow them to convert these, but in the final few minutes of the first half we conceded the first goal of the game which we then had to fight harder to come back from. A rousing team talk from Ali at half time, pointed us in the right direction and we came back stronger in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, we conceded a further goal, but didnt let it get us down and we fought till the end, working harder to close down their 16s, push ours out sooner and generally upset the opposition. Once again, we found our rhythm in the second half and came away from the game positive; we just need to keep that sheet clean in the first half! Millie very rightly earned POTM with some awesome defensive work. On to the next one, we are turning this round and improving week on week - is next week the winning one?

MENS 3RD XI - 21/01/2023 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 21/01/2023 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 21/01/2023 HEADLINE: Norwich Youth take centre stage LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TAVERHAM RESULT: NORWICH CITY 3s 9 - 3 NORTH NORFOLK 1s REPORT: A good crowd on a gloriously sunny Taverham afternoon witnessed a demonstration of near perfect hockey from a very special group of young players. The team, boasting 9 players aged 18 or under, simply demonstrated time and time again the art of fast attacking hockey allayed with excellent decision making. The fact that the team scored 9 goals from open play highlights just how fluid and incisive they were. Corey Rushton, fresh from his player of the match performance last week, continued his fine form with goals in the 14th and 17th minutes, the latter thanks to delightful build up play by Oli Millett and Toby Pallister. Somewhat against the fun of play, a break down their left saw North Norfolk reduce the arrears in the 18th minute. Undeterred Jack Luther made it 3-1 in the 21st minute following poetic build up play between Sam Hancock and Max McEwan. Almost immediately Max McEwan then made it 4-1 in the 22nd minute following dazzling stick work by Max Wilson and brilliant decision making by Jack Luther on the baseline. After a relatively quiet 5 minutes Max Wilson scored arguably the goal of the game purely for its simplicity. Henry Baker took a quick 16 hit following a North Norfolk penalty corner, his pass found Luther on the right who drew a defender and released Max Wilson to slot past the hapless keeper - from defence to goal in less than 5 seconds - brilliant. On the stroke of half time a mesmerising dribble from Oli Millett set up Luther to make it 6-1. Despite some creative substitutions City continued to dominate the second half with Maw McEwan and Toby Palliaster really catching the eye in midfield and the visitor's defence bedazzled by Wilson and Millett's silky stickwork. After 40 minutes Mark Fletcher, having missed a glorious chance just moments earlier, made it 7-1 when he tapped in at the far post following yet another splendid build up involving Wilson and Pallister. Whilst City were dominant North Norfolk continued to pose a threat on the counter attack particularly through ex-City youngsters, Austin Kennard and Jonty Down, With Tom Franks making a number of telling clearances. A good deflection reduced the arrears to 7-2 which soon became 7-3 in the 59th minute. However, an excellent interception from Toby Pallister in the final third saw him hammer the ball into the roof of the net. Wilson completed the scoring with 3 minutes left on the clock via yet another stylish midfield build up. Any match report where the home team scores 9 is going to be dominated by the goal scorers however, what was most pleasing throughout the whole game was the professional manner in which all the City players just got on with the game. The defensive trio of Ben Hawes, Henry Baker and Archie Ward looked and played with composure beyond their years. As you can tell, selecting a player of the match from so many excellent performances was always going to be tough, with Max Wilson just edging out Toby Pallister, Max McEwan and Corey Ruston in the votes.
