WOMENS 3RD XI - 20/11/2021 VS YARMOUTH 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 20/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 20/11/2021 HEADLINE: Away on a rainy day! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: Great Yarmouth RESULT: 0-0 REPORT: City turned up raring to go on a rainy gloomy away day to face Yarmouth 1's on their home ground. City started positively and played multiple attacks whilst also connecting with each other and delivering short precise passes. The communication and teamwork were second to none with lots of communication when pushing the ball forward. There were several unsuccessful attempts on goal however this did not affect the positive attitude of the team. Unfortunately, the attempts on goal didn't result in goals however the team dynamic was positive and players effectively linked with one another to play quick, precise, and effective passes. Spirits were high and teamwork was noticeably on point. The end result was a draw that did not reflect the team dynamic, spirit, and attitude going into the game.

Unfortunately 2 more goals were scored by dragons, another from a short corner and the last one from active play in the D. W (1-0) 20/11/2021 - W6 vs Broadland 3 (A / L) A FRUSTRATING GAME FOR CITY |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 20/11/2021 VS BROADLAND 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 20/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 20/11/2021 HEADLINE: A Frustrating Game For City LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-0 REPORT: City were in high spirits ready to take on Broadland 3s at Taverham. The game started well for City who dominated throughout with some great passing and runs by the Lauren O'Hanlon, Mirha Kashif, Ellis Couzins and Rose Byrne into the D. However, despite plenty of opportunities at goal and multiple short corners for City, City could not seem to get the ball past Broadlands goalkeeper. Broadland put together some strong defending, keeping the game 0-0 at halftime. However, City came back in the second half more determined for the win. City continued to dominate, working extremely hard to keep pressing the defence, winning plenty of short corners. Some good injections from Liz Hollis and some solid teamwork from City but again still no luck finding the back of the goal. Eventually, City’s perseverance paid off. A run from midfield by Lauren O'Hanlon brought the ball to the top of the D. A decisive pass to Liz Hollis by the left post saw City take the lead 1-0 after scored a goal from a deflection off the goalkeeper’s foot. Towards the end of the second half City kept the pressure up launching multiple attacks at the Broadland goal but these chances were deflected by their superb goal keeper. Toward the end Broadland had a few chances in the City half but these were stopped by the incredible defending of Niamh Rushton, Alice Brand, Emily Winter and Sarah Sandell. Despite feeling rather frustrated that the final score did not reflect City’s strong performance, City was pleased and relieved to take home a much deserved win. Many thanks to Rose Byrne and Emily Winter who helped us out this weekend, and congratulations to Niamh Rushton for POTM due to her amazing defending skills preventing many of the Broadland counter acts.

W (5-2) 20/11/2021 - M1 vs Ipswich 1 (A / L) BATTLE OF THE EAST COAST AS HOT A CONTEST AS EVER: MENS 1S COME AWAY VICTORIOUS! |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 20/11/2021 VS IPSWICH 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 20/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 20/11/2021 HEADLINE: Battle of the East Coast as hot a contest as ever: Mens 1s come away victorious! LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Tuddenham Rd RESULT: 5-2 Win REPORT: The history of Ipswich HC Vs Norwich City has always been well fought and with national league promotion on the line it was an important as ever. A nice early pushback allowing us to watch the rugby later was appreciated and we thanked Ipswich by getting straight down to business with a flurry of early chances, unfortunately none found the backboard. After a dominant start but no goals Ipswich began to find their feet and came back with a stint of pressure of their own, thankfully Alastair Cooke was on hand to make some crucial saves, including a triple save, and keep the score to 0-0. After a few loose touches getting used to Ipswich's shiny new pitch we finally took the lead through a Cooke connection as Thomas slapped into Cameron at the top of the D and he gladly roofed a hit home for a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately In classic City style we immediately allowed a counter attack as Ipswich went from one end to the other efficiently before a messy D resulted in a few goal ward bound shots and eventually one found the net. It also found Harry Browns face first but he didn't have the Harry Maguire neck strength to head it away, and I'm sure he's wearing the scars of that with a lovely bruise beneath his right eye today. Fortunately this goal knocked the sense into us and for the remaining 10minutes of the half we played some of the nicest fluid hockey we have all season. Plenty entries to the Ipswich 23, a few shots to show for it but no goals until last weeks 1st team debutant but long time 1st team fan boy Jeremy Elliot stepped up to plant home a slip from a Short Corner and then became provider as he reversed from the baseline into Ben Chapman who recklessly threw his body at the pacey ball and beautifully sent it sailing into the net. Well done to Jeremy, the 35 years of hardworking getting into the first team have paid off. 3-1 HT lead. 2nd half begun with Ipswich throwing everything at us with 5 minutes of a full press, we soaked up the pressure and kept their attacking territory to a minimum. We did get lucky with a few counter attacks but the ever dependable Alastair Cooke was on hand to mop up our sluggish counter press and mop up the MOTM for a 2nd time this year. Soon after Ipswich sat back and allowed us to move forward and with a Rich Green turnover at halfway, quick pass to find Cameron Cooke and with a sharp cut inside and ball to Chris Wardale who rounded the keeper and sent he ball flying home we had a comfortable lead at 4-1. Cameron Cooke then decided to do what he does best and run around 6 players before reversing into the opposite top corner for an utterly outrageous solo goal. 5-1. After a few cards to various players for various offences that Ipswich had manged to dodge getting their own cards for they eventually made the extra man pay and made it 5-2. As time expired Harry Gill found Cameron Cooke at the P-Spot to finish his 5th hattrick in as many games, but unfortunately it was 3 seconds too late and the whistle had gone for a 5-2 final scoreline.

W (5-3) 20/11/2021 - M3 vs North Norfolk 1 (A / L) CITY EDGE BATTLE OF TITANS |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 20/11/2021 VS NORTH NORFOLK 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 20/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 20/11/2021 HEADLINE: City edge battle of titans LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Sheringham School RESULT: city 5 x North Norfolk 3 REPORT: Games can be won with a moment of skill, brilliance or just determination……. It was 3-3 and midway through the second half. The ball was drifting harmlessly off the back and Ollie Millett was on the halfway line…. Norwich mens 3s had taken a bare 11 (with semi fit or semi injured Simon Black in reserve- just in case) to North Norfolk for a top of the table clash on a rather flat sandy pitch. North Norfolk started well with their 4 man midfield dominating. They took the lead early but a Max Wilson solo effort put Norwich level. North Norfolk took the lead again before Norwich dropped Aaron Curtis back into a withdrawn centre forward role. With 4 on 4 in midfield Norwich started to control the game with their more skilful players. Aaron Curtis scored from an penalty flick and Norwich took the lead with a long ball from Jim Pallister to Aaron Curtis who picked out Ethan Rushton in the D who finished smartly. Against the run of play North Norfolk equalised with a miss-hit short coned just before half-time. The second half continued much as the first had done with Norwich controlling the game and North Norfolk looking dangerous on the break. The moment came midway through the second half ….. the ball drifting harmlessly off the back and Ollie Millett on the halfway line; 5 players between him and the ball with a 30m head start…. Ollie decides it is not a lost cause…. Moments later a metre from the base line Ollie smashes the ball into the corner of the goal 3-4 …. Pure pace and determination… Ollie set up Ethan’s second lovely finish with a couple of minutes of the game to go. Not all of the team are as fast as Ollie but the whole team showed his desire and determination to win…. Special mentions - Henry Baker great tomahawk; Adam Sayer always in the right place to snuff out North Norfolk attacks and great cameo (semi fit or semi injured) Simon.

W (5-1) 20/11/2021 - M5 vs Dereham 3 (H / L) PLAYED WELL, GREAT IN SOME PARTS WITH ONE LAPSE OF CONCENTRATION |
---|
MENS 5TH XI - 20/11/2021 VS DEREHAM 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 20/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 20/11/2021 HEADLINE: Played well, great in some parts with one lapse of concentration LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-1 REPORT: An overcast morning saw the 5's take on Dereham 3's in a hotly anticipated battle for third in the table. Despite what seemed like an early and strong warm-up, City started very slow and sluggish which resulted in Dereham applying the initial pressure and having a couple of chances. After those first defensive 15 minutes City then woke up and started playing much better hockey, with some great spells of; passing in triangles, posting up and pushing harder in the 50/50s which resulted in Matthew Brine scoring a goal. City continued their dominance with Paul Gallop close control and range of passing being a lynchpin in midfield and kept upgrading in the last third to penalty corners. This gave Matthew Brine another chance to grab a goal with a lovely drag flick at which the Dereham defender on the post seemed to attempt to head away but fortunately there was no contact. Paul Gallop, Tom Cooper, and John Ewart continued to antagonise and frustrate the Dereham midfield and defense with some intricate passing and moving and Paul Gallop showed some great composure in the D to claim a goal and City's third before halftime. Dereham tried almost everything to regain a foothold in the game with long balls, close midfield play and strong driving runs all being thwarted by a stalwart defensive display. Even the penalty corners and a chance being cleared off the line couldn't help the away side to find a goal going into the break. After the halftime team talk discussing the initial sluggishness City were once again slow in the restart, with the pressure coming straight away by Dereham who were clearly attempting to not leave with an embarrassing score line. This pressure was easily soaked up and a cameo appearance by Paul Roy led once again to some superb team play in the midfield and a remarkable bouncing shot hitting the backboard - Paul Roy starting and finishing the move. City managed to concede a series of penalty corners which led to Dereham scoring their consolation goal due to a minor lapse of concentration by the post marker being punished by a well-aimed shot. This seemed to raise Dereham's broken spirits a little but the meagre hopes of a comeback were very quickly quashed when Kit Pallister rounded off City's scoring to make it 5-1 at the end.
