W (6-0) 16/10/2021 - W1 vs Ipswich East-Suffolk 1 (H / L) DOMINANT CITY HIT IES FOR SIX |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 16/10/2021 VS IPSWICH EAST-SUFFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: Dominant City hit IES for Six LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: TRF RESULT: 6-0 REPORT: After a dominant display at Old Loughts last week, City were hoping to get their first home win of the season against second bottom Ipswich-East Suffolk. City started strongly against a bare 11 IES, using the larger squad to our advantage, we pressured them from the off. As usual, we used the wings to our advantage and created many attacking opportunities. Not long after, a great ball from Ella Gill found Stacey Lee for a classy deflection goal. Score: 1-0. City continued to press high against a scrabbling IES defence, and were rewarded when Krystal Bishop intercepted a defensive pass and squared the ball to an unmarked Niamh Campbell for an easy tap in. Score: 2-0. City were unlucky not to score more as the half time whistle went. City continued how they finished the first half; solid at the back, expansive in midfield and with an aggressive forward line. The high press led by the forwards resulted in another interception by Bishop, whose first shot was saved, but landed nicely for a square pass to Olivia Williams to put past an on rushing keeper. Score: 3-0. Finally the floodgates opened… shortly after, another beautiful attacking display by City led to Stacey Lee dispatching Rosie Ringer to score her first league goal (Wahoo Wahoo). Score: 4-0. This was followed by a lovely one-two between Williams and Bishop, leading to Bishop scoring her first of the game. Score: 5-0. A breakdown in IES play by our midfield created a golden opportunity for our forwards. Some excellent passing led to Lee setting up Bishop to hit home her second and the final score of 6-0. This assertive display is what city hope to bring to their next match when they play St Albans away.

W (9-1) 16/10/2021 - W2 vs Framlingham 1 (A / L) CASTLE UNDER SIEGE |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 16/10/2021 VS FRAMLINGHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: Castle Under Siege LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Framlingham College RESULT: 9-1 W REPORT: The womens second team headed down to Framlingham, unsure of the opposition they were about to face with very mixed results thus far. With both excitement and apprehension (at the sandiness of the pitch!) they got straight to work piling the pressure onto Fram. City converted their first goal through a short corner, with Rosie Humphrey putting the ball onto the post for Emily Leeming to calmly slot home. Framlingham then made a couple of breaks against the run of play and a short corner resulted. A well worked routine resulted in a goal, 1-1. City piled the pressure onto Fram and it was not long before more goals resulted. Milly Brown, Lauren Lawrie and Emily Leeming created opportunities with their pace and quick passing breaking apart the defence. Rosie had a great attempt saved, but her rebounded shot met a foot on the line – unphased she skilfully converted the flick, 2-1. It was captain Georgia Cleveland’s turn next spotting the space in the D, weaving amongst the defenders and placing the ball past the onrushing keeper. Then was the mazy run of Dani Sizer following great build up play from Lucy Walton to Emily Francis who drove the baseline and sent a ball across the D for Dani Sizer to swiftly sweep up into the back of the net, 4-1. The first half finished 5-1 following a brilliant link up between Rosie Humphrey and Emma Hewitt who worked tirelessly upfront to find Emily Francis running into the D for a 1 on 1 with the keeper, the keeper saved the first attempt but Emily followed up and slotted home the rebound. The defensive unit of Sally Rose, Sabina Baker, Leigh-Ann Worrall held strong and composed to keep at bay anymore counter attacks. Linking up well with Georgia Cleveland in the middle and with the overlapping runs of Lucy Walton. Many more opportunities on goal occurred, with great diving deflections from Hanna Hall and Dani nearly converting. It was Rosie Humphrey who made it 6-1 when another ball from Emma found Rosie on the P spot, who spun and beat the last defender to score. Hanna Hall followed Rosie’s lead sprinting into the space in the D and converted a reverse shot. Emily Francis finally managed to complete the illusive hattrick of the last two weeks with a mazy run through the D to slot the ball on her reverse past the keeper, 8-1, followed by a reverse sweep into the goal after pouncing on a rebound. Final score 9-1. A shout out to Georgina Barratt in goal who despite having little to do, kept strong, engaged and was the cheerleader we all needed throughout the game.

D (2-2) 16/10/2021 - W3 vs University of East Anglia 2 (A / L) A FIERY DRAW |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 16/10/2021 VS UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: A fiery draw LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: UEA RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: A squad of twelve met at UEA Sportspark ready to find our game of hockey from the first whistle. A strong constructive attack on the UEA 'D' led to a short pass in front of the keeper from Claire Snelling to find Ellie Alderton who back stick flicked the ball over the keeper who had gone to ground. The ball found the backboard and City were 1-0 up. UEA were fired up and pressurised the attacking 'D', but were thwarted by some fantastic saves from Serena Scott and consistent excellent defending from Gillian Allen, Gemma Sargent and Karen Dagless. After a positive team talk at half time, L3’s came out fighting, but an attack from UEA found the back board and the score was levelled at 1-1. Undeterred City came back fighting winning numerous short corners and chances, including some epic flicks from Hollie Joyce and great insertions into the D by Claire Snelling and Lily Couborough. At the other end of the pitch a flick was given and found the back of the goal; UEA took the lead at 2-1. With a fire in city’s belly, and the attacks came thick and fast leading to a short corner being awarded. The routine worked seamlessly with a clean injection from Ellie Alderton, received by Gemma Sargent, passed wide to Hollie Joyce and laid off to Marie Hood who slammed the ball into the bottom corner. 2-2. PTOM Lily Couborough for determined, consistent and committed play!

WOMENS 5TH XI - 16/10/2021 VS DEREHAM 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: A heated LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: 3-0 win REPORT: First half was a difficult slog, ending at 0-0 and both teams looking strong. Zara Hunter made some great saves in the city goal. City came on with a bit more force in the second half, having more possession and Emily Winter’s rapid breaks from the back line helped to throw Dereham off. City then scored 3 goals, assisted by Susan Mathews and Emily Winter, scored by Millie Wimhurst. A strong disagreement over the 3rd goal ended with some heated words and two yellow cards given but in the end it made no difference. Neither City nor Dereham let the disruption put them off their stride and City defended their lead well till the end.

W (1-0) 16/10/2021 - W6 vs Norwich Dragons 7 (A / L) A VERY CLOSE GAME |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 16/10/2021 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 7 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: A Very Close Game LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 1-0 REPORT: It was a late 4pm PB at Dragons Dens for the Womens 6s. Both teams were 1st and 2nd in the table and therefore eager for a win. At the start of the game, the play was fairly evenly matched with some opportunities for both ends. Dragons had some very fast wingers who has several opportunities at the City goal, but these chances were denied by some great defending from Danielle Emerson and our GK Joanne Di-Corpo. City too had a fair number of chances. Some great runs down the right-hand wing by Esme Abbott and some beautiful chances on goal by Louisa Rutley however the Dragon's defence remained strong. On both sides there were some great runs for the midfield with end-to-end action. Towards the end of the half City had a few short corners awarded to them, with some excellent teamwork from Liz Hollis, Sarah Bird and Ellis Couzins, but unfortunately, the ball would not go in the goal. At halftime, the score was 0-0. After halftime Dragons came out even stronger, looking for the winning goal that would keep them top of the league. City’s defence was put under a lot of pressure in the 2nd half. The amazing defending of Niamh Rushton, Samantha Harvey and Danielle Emerson slowed the advancing Dragons, but it was some amazing saves by Joanne Di-Corpo that really kept City in the game. Defending some one-on-one’s, raised balls at goal and some incredible diving saves to the post. With only a couple of minutes left to go the score was still 0-0 and everyone was tiring, hoping to hang on to a well-deserved draw. The City midfield made one more attempt towards the goal with some lovely runs by Esther Hamilton and amazing skills on the left-wing by Scarlett Rhoades. With only 30 seconds left to go, Ellis Couzins received the ball at Top D. Surrounded by Dragons defence, she could not see where any of her City players were, and so attempted a reverse hit towards goal. Luckily for her Liz Hollis was waiting in front of the Dragons GK; desperate to keep up her streak as Womens 6s top goal scorer. A stroke of genesis by Liz Hollis deflected the raised ball into the back of the net, securing another win for City 1-0. POTM was given to our GK Joanne Di-Corpo, for a very well-deserved performance and for keeping City in the game so many times. A warm welcome was also extended to Scarlett Rhoades as this was her first game for Womens 6s. Her amazing stick skills and composure when she had the ball is a great assist to the team.

WOMENS 7TH XI - 16/10/2021 VS LODDON 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: A hard fought game for the Womens 7s. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: L 0-5 REPORT: A hard fought match for City this week against a very well organised Loddon team. The score line did not reflect the effort put in by the City team, who were debuting a larger number of players this week. With some great runs up the pitch and some incredible hockey by Katie Smith and Alice Hood up the wing city had several attempts on goal it was unfortunate that city couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. Some incredible runs from the Loddon players and shots on goal led to them gaining an early lead in the second half, although the defence put on by city meant they had to up their game in the second half to gain more ground.

W (6-2) 16/10/2021 - M5 vs Ipswich 3 (A / L) POSITIVE PERFORMANCE |

MENS 5TH XI - 16/10/2021 VS IPSWICH 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 16/10/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 16/10/2021 HEADLINE: Positive performance LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Ipswich RESULT: W 6-2 REPORT: The men’s 5ths travelled away to Ipswich and where delighted to come back home with a 6-2 win. Rees Leonard opened up the scoring with a brilliant lob over the keeper. Our second goal was a great team effort, it had fallen to Max Coubrough on the P-spot who pushed it into the corner to make it 2-0. They struck back just before half time with a goal, this made the score 2-1 at half time. Norwich had been dominating throughout this first half but Ipswich had also shown some attacking flair to get their goal. We came out of half time wanting to secure our lead. We had worked our way into their D and earned a short corner. This was powered into the top corner by Rees Leonard who had drag flicked it. After this Ipswich had put together some attacking play and were able to get back a goal and bring it to 3-2. However, we were able to keep on the attacking pressure and earned another short corner. This was identical to the first one and was powerfully flicked by Rees Leonard straight into the top right corner. Our next goal was also a short corner which Rees Leonard flicked bottom right like a bullet. The short corner routine was unstoppable. By this point it was 5-2 and we had our heads up to capitalise on this opportunity. We had forced a shot into the keeper and it had gone into the air, Duncan Mallet got under it and volleyed it straight into the goal. This made the game 6-2. It was a strong defensive effort to keep Ipswich to only 2 goals, and our goal keeper made some amazing saves to keep Ipswich at bay. It was a great win away for Norwich.
