WOMENS 1ST XI - 13/11/2021 VS BISHOP STORTFORD 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 13/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 13/11/2021 HEADLINE: City fall just short against league leaders LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Herts and Essex Sports Centre RESULT: 2-3 REPORT: The City firsts travelled to Bishops Stortford on Saturday for a midday pass back. The visitors were up for the challenge coming into the game with a 6 game unbeaten streak. An evenly contested opening quarter saw both teams have breaks and opportunities but it was the home team who broke the deadlock first after converting a clinical penalty corner. Undeterred, City pushed on and a lovely counter attack down the right hand side saw Niamh Campbell drive into the circle and square the ball to the incoming Stacey Lee who found the roof of the net with a first time slap. City were buoyed by the goal but unfortunately Bishops Stortford won a controversial penalty corner just before the half time whistle which meant a 2-1 lead at the half way mark for the league leaders. The second half started much like the first with both team grappling for possession of the ball. City kept battling for the equaliser and it finally came with less than 5 minutes remaining. Sophie Mullan won the ball and found Oli Williams in the circle. Oli laid the ball off to Lee who turned strong and found the near corner to make it 2-2. City couldn’t hold on to the final whistle however as Bishops Stortford dispossessed City at the back and broke into the circle. The umpire then made a big call by awarding the home team a penalty stroke after a couple of mistimed tackles from the City defence. The Bishops Stortford player converted from the spot and left the final score 3-2 to the home team.

W (8-1) 13/11/2021 - W3 vs Broadland 2 (H / L) RARING TO GO IN THE RAIN |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 13/11/2021 VS BROADLAND 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 13/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 13/11/2021 HEADLINE: Raring to go in the Rain LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 8-1 REPORT: City turned out on a drizzly Saturday afternoon undeterred by the rain and raring to go. From the off, City dominated the game with multiple attacks in the oppositions D and were quickly able to convert when Emily Greenway (Player of the match) slotted the ball behind the keeper to score the opening goal. Soon after, Vicki Myhill found herself in acres of space and calmly drove the ball into the D and with a hard accurate shot fired the ball into the goal. Broadland’s attempts to break through City’s defence proved unsuccessful as full backs Gemma Sargent and Gillian Allen stood their ground and managed to keep any real threats at bay with some great passing around the back distributing the ball out to the wingers. Sue Tomlinson worked hard and put some fantastic passes down the right wing onto the stick of Emily Greenway who was able to beat her defender to the byline and crossed the ball to the left post to find Mollae Scott who tapped the ball into the goal. Just before half time City converted again when Mollae Scott returned the favour crossing the ball in from the left where Emily Greenway ran in onto the right post to pop it past the keeper again making it 4-0 on the half time whistle. A great team talk from Ali Wardale at half time inspired City to keep up the pace and the second half proved to be just as productive. Emma Richardson, as usual was on top form and competently distributed the ball from her crucial centre half position to find Hannah Sangar at the top of the D. Hannah controlled the ball and with her reverse stick lifted the ball over the top of the keeper and into the roof of the net to score an epic goal which left her teammates in awe!! Claire Snelling provided some great passes into the D assisting the attackers and Broadland found themselves outnumbered again when Vicki Myhill came up from her half back position to aid the attack, found a great spot at the top left of the D to knock it past the keeper scoring her second goal of the game. Broadland managed to find some space and led a convincing counter attack into City’s D, upgrading the ball onto a defenders foot and were awarded with a short corner which they scored from. A free hit gained City access in Broadland territory once again and were awarded a short corner. The ball was passed out to the top of the D and slipped left to Emma Richardson who skilfully drag flicked the ball into the net. The final goal was scored after Ellie Alderton pressured the defence and passed the ball out to Hollie Joyce who knocked the ball into the back board with a strong reverse stick hit making the score 8-1 to City.

City came back determined in the second half; wanting the 3 points. City continued making some excellent passes and Sophie Bush passed a great ball to Sharon Phillips who scored a goal that was unfortunately disallowed. WOMENS 6TH XI - 13/11/2021 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 7 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 13/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 13/11/2021 HEADLINE: A solid win for city LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: Norwich City L6s arrived at Taverham for a lunchtime game against Magpies 8s. City started the game in good spirits with some great runs by the midfield into the Magpies D. After a few minutes a great run from Esme Abbott saw the ball pass to Lousia Rutley on the right-wing. Louisa made a decisive run to baseline before pulling the ball back towards the P spot. Liz Hollis was standing there waiting then slotted the ball into the left corner of the Magpie's goal. 1-0. Magpies however were still in good spirits making some great runs towards the City goal. One particular run saw them be awarded their first short corner of the game. A good injection and the hard strike at top D from Magpies, but thankfully for City Sam Harvey made a great save on the line before slapping the ball out of the City D. Just before the end of the first half, Magpies had a 16 hit out. Good pressure from City saw Ellis Couzins deflect their 16 before lifting the ball over their defenders stick to Julia Marchant who was waiting in the Magpies D. Quick thinking by Julia Marchant slipped the ball through the Magpies GK to make the score 2-0 to City. After the halftime break City started well with some good runs into the Magpie's D. A run by Esme Abbott saw the ball be passed to Louisa on the right. A good cross into the D found Helen McCall who kept her composure and managed to slot the ball into the right-hand corner of Magpie's goal, narrowly missing their GK feet. Towards the end of the second half Magpie's had a few good chances at the city goal. On the counteract, Magpies had a hard shot at goal which was deflected by GK Joanne Di-Corpo. A strong hit saw the ball roll off the left sideline. However, Magpies still had the ball and weren't done. A shot at goal was defended on the line by defender Sarah Sandell. Magpies all rushed towards the goal line attempting to score, but some incredible defending by Sarah Sandell and Sam Harvey prevented this. Finally, the ball was cleared from the City D and the match ended. Both teams played really well and it was a really great game. POTM went to Millie Brown from her 2nd appearance and some incredible defending.

No team scored in the second half but was a good performance played by all, with Sophia having a strong game in defence and Goal Keeper Amber preventing Dereham from scoring again! W (7-2) 13/11/2021 - M1 vs Ipswich East-Suffolk 1 (H / L) TIGHT 1ST HALF BUT CITY STAY IN CONTROL TO DOMINATE THE 2ND HALF |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 13/11/2021 VS IPSWICH EAST-SUFFOLK 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 13/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 13/11/2021 HEADLINE: Tight 1st half but City stay in control to dominate the 2nd half LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 7-2 win REPORT: We had been blessed with good weather so it was about time the traditional British Winter took over and we had some cold and wet to deal with. Fortunately the poor weather didn't slow us down and we were 2-0 up inside 6minutes with 2 open play foals. First Thomas Cooke turned the ball over in midfield and found Chris Wardale open at the top D for the lovely reverse hit into the bottom left. And then a quickly taken free hit from Thomas found Pete Morgan before Ben Chapman received the ball on the baseline and found Cam Centre of the D for an easy flick home. This early excitement showed as we probably pushed a little bit too hard to go 3 up and got caught a few times on the break and gave away a few shorts. Thankfully Russ saved one and Tom Harris picked another but it was 3rd time lucky for IES who brought it back to 2-1 midway through the half. We started to take back control and with a Short corner of our own Thomas Cooke had restored our 3 goal lead. Although almost immediately IES had traded back with another short corner 3-2. The last 10mins of the half was all ours as we looked confident in building phases and running the game, thankfully this effort was rewarding with a short corner as time ran put and Thomas Cooke went 2/2 at SCs for a HT lead of 4-2. Building on from that end to the 1st half, the 2nd half was more of the same. Plenty chances created in the first 10, but unfortunately no goals to show for it. Until Jonty Black stepped up with a fine interception and run down the left, before cutting inside and passing to Cam who found Gilly on the right of the D and happily hit home for a 5-2 lead. It wouldn't be a normal Saturday without a Cameron Cooke hattrick so he dragged home our 5th SC and 6th goal of the game before going on a mazy run to find himself 1 on 1 with the GK and planted it beautifully in the opposite top corner. 7-2 final score and Cams 4th hattrick in a row. As was the case last week, we did really well to take control in the first half and then were patient enough to keep our heads and really takeover when the game opened up in the second half. 8 wins from 8 and the big battle of the East coast next week!

W (4-0) 13/11/2021 - M3 vs Norwich Dragons 3 (H / L) PALLISTER JUNIOR PROVIDES ICING ON THE CAKE |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 13/11/2021 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 13/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 13/11/2021 HEADLINE: Pallister junior provides icing on the cake LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: City 4 - 0 Dragons REPORT: Due to illness, work commitments and a communication mess up City had just 10 players for this home fixture an hour before push back. Huge thanks to Ian Andrews for stepping up from the 6s and Kit Pallister (the youngest of the Pallister hockey production line) City had 12 players towards the end of the first half (Kit changing from his school rugby kit on the side of the pitch!). Despite this somewhat unusual approach to team selection, City dominated the game with a Max Wilson stick skill master class opening the scoring, closely follwed by that rarer than hen’s teeth event, a Clive Crichton goal following a slick penalty corner routine. Half time 2-0 With City upping the pressure in the second half thanks to dynamic displays from the midfield and forwards Kit Pallister scored a tremendous goal when it looked like City had thrown away a glorious opportunity - slick passing between Jim Pallister and Ethan RUSHTON seemed to go awry as each successive pass became harder and less directed, nevertheless Rushton recovered the ball on the by line, somehow managed to cross the ball for Kit Pallister, having run 40m in the vain hope a cross might arrive , to tap in. Max Wilson completed an excellent day with his second goal towards the end. Oli Millett was named player of the match for his excellent and tireless contribution throughout.

W (3-2) 13/11/2021 - M5 vs Ipswich East-Suffolk 4 (A / L) CLOSE GAME FOR CITY |
---|
MENS 5TH XI - 13/11/2021 VS IPSWICH EAST-SUFFOLK 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 13/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 13/11/2021 HEADLINE: Close game for City LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: IES RESULT: 3-2 REPORT: In Ipswich, we had a close game against the home team. As half time came by, we tied 1-1 with them scoring the first goal, the pressure was building for both teams to get possession of the ball and ultimately, secure a lead on the scoreboard. The defence was tested throughout the game, but it held strong enough to keep us in the game. For a vital 15 minutes, some excellent hockey has been played in the offence through teamwork, which had got us the upper hand and 2 more goals. The opposition returned the favour by scoring one more against us which proven to us that the game was not over yet. The final minutes of the game resulted in us keeping composure to ensure us the win. Overall, it was a great game and everyone should be happy with their performance.
