WOMENS 2ND XI - 12/02/2022 VS IPSWICH 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 12/02/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 12/02/2022 HEADLINE: Top of the table battle! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Ipswich (Away) RESULT: 1-2 REPORT: Some would say Norwich Womens 2’s were heading for the most important game of their 2021-2 season, the changing rooms were full of nerves and excitement ahead of the top of the table clash. After a cold and well drilled warm up the game began and Norwich threw themselves straight in, pressing high from the start, making Ipswich work hard in defence. Mia Moore, Emma Hewitt, and Grace Hanworth- Knights pressed the oppositions attacking D, winning a flurry of back-to-back short corners, none of which Norwich could convert. Shortly followed some amazing midfield blocks from Lauren Lawrie and Georgia Cleveland putting the pressure on Ipswich who were building momentum.Goalie Georgina Barratt structured her defence effectively keeping the ball out, attack after attack, however a well worked pass and strike from a confident Ipswich player hit the backboard leaving Norwich trailing early in the game. Norwich was trying to respond and some great runs from Emily Francis plus some lovely tackles from Uma Patel enabled Norwich to start to build pressure again and shortly before the half time whistle Norwich won a short corner. A fast drag flick towards the Ipswich defence was saved and deflected but a well-placed Emily Francis was on hand and scored a reverse flick into the goal. With the score line in an even state it as all the play for in the second half. Norwich came out strong with Sophie Bendon working hard to win balls from the Ipswich defence. With Norwich pulling together in this second half Ipswich were struggling to break through and tensions were building. Ipswich did see some wonderful breaks of play however Lucy Walton was strong at the back and nothing was getting through especially with Leigh-Ann Worrall sweeping up balls and enabling a super-efficient Hanna Hall to make some nice distribution passes out to Milly Brown and Dani Sizer. As the game neared the final five minutes of play a through ball reached a highly placed Sophie who after firstly hitting the keeper produced a quick reaction and hit the ball with absolute determination to smash the backboard and bring the win home for Norwich. Norwich now found themselves ahead, a stark contrast to the start of the game and the feeling of elation swept across the team. A well battled and challenging game!

WOMENS 5TH XI - 12/02/2022 VS NORTH NORFOLK 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 12/02/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 12/02/2022 HEADLINE: City Fortress LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Loss 0-2 REPORT:City Fortress On another windy day at Taverham the city 5’s were looking for a come back after a tough week away at Dereham. We quickly learnt that the game wouldn’t be an easy ride as a stronger than expected north Norfolk side made interceptions leading to strong passes, quickly moving across the pitch. Emma Guyton and Rose Byrne took turns playing a stormer as strong centre halves moving the ball up to inners Sofia Hancy and Amy Hinchcliffe with Sophie Bush and Liz Hollis pushing the ball up into the opposing d, but sadly not able to get past the goalkeeper. North Norfolk then managed to get a short corner and get their first goal, ruffling our feathers, and meaning that that city went into the second half 1-0 down. After a quick half time pep talk we went into the second half with our heads high, making strong passes across the width of the pitch, with a few short corners won on the attack. The pace of the ball and movement of players was sadly not enough for us to get us even with the opposing team. North Norfolk kept coming at us with Attack after attack being held off by a strong defensive line from city, with goalkeeper Zara seeing the most action of the season and showing strong form with save after save, with barely any time to catch breath! Sarah Sandwell, Niamh Rushton and Jess Tunnard were busy clearing the d with great support from all of the halves picking up players and transferring the ball back up the pitch. Millie Wimhurst, Sharon Phillips and Esther Hamilton assisted by making great runs up and down the wing to move the ball quickly away from danger, making chances higher up the pitch for city. Unfortunately north Norfolk made a break late in the second half, scoring a second goal from a strike at the top of the d making a final score of 2-0. Although a disappointing score, everyone worked relentlessly throughout the game with determination to get even. Onwards and upwards for the 5’s!!
