WOMENS 1ST XI - 11/02/2023 VS CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 11/02/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 11/02/2023 HEADLINE: Unlucky Draw LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: NC W1s welcomed unbeaten Cambridge University W1s to sunny TRF, who narrowly beat NC in the reverse fixture. Due to identical formations, the first 15 minutes was keenly contested with our midfield of Ellie Brine, Alice Gill, Ella Gill, Felicity Williams & Lucy Tilbrook holding firm & neutralising any forward play into our 23m. Great passing play found NC winning the first & our only short corner of the match. A Felicity Williams trade mark slider caused havoc in the D & good advantage play enabled Krystal Bishop to score from an acute angle. 1-0. The university team restarted strong, with the defensive trio of Hannah Nunn, Harriet Preston & PF Chung repelling wave after wave of attack, unfortunately a goal mouth scramble found the back of the net after Georgina Barratt made numerous blocks. 1-1 & half time. After a rousing half time team-talk by coach Matthew Brine, NC started to find each other & bringing into play our wide midfield of Hanna Hall & Nicola Ralph. A quickly taken free hit by Felicity Williams was deftly deflected into the goal by Emily Francis for NC to retake the lead. 2-1. The opposition GK had a great game thwarting Olivia Williams & Krystal Bishop. A loose defensive pass earned a scrambling birthday girl Hannah Nunn a yellow card. However, NC help firm & kept out the resulting short corner. Cambridge University got a short corner in the final minute & earned a very lucky draw. 2-2. POM went to Ella Gill for her great work rate, linking up play & communication across the lines. Match report writing honours went to PF Chung for a comical face plant.

W (4-0) 11/02/2023 - W3 vs Bury St Edmunds 3 (H / L) FANTASTIC 4 FROM CITY 3'S |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 11/02/2023 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 11/02/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 11/02/2023 HEADLINE: Fantastic 4 from City 3's LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: WON 4-0 REPORT: City 3s were determined for a win against Bury 3s, after a close result against them on the away match the first half of the season. We started strong as a team, however we were under pressure in the first 15 mins of the first half. Frankie Birkenhead, Kim Cleave, Jenny Czerwinski and Gemma Sargent were confidently clearing the ball out from defence. Karren Dagless had only shortly returned from her holiday, yet calmly thwarted many Bury attacks. Jo our goalkeeper remained strong and determined to keep a clean sheet. We then picked up the pace and possession with lots of attacking play down the left side with some lovely passing between Angela Hindle, and our inners Evie Brockington and Hollie Blackham. This led to our first goal from Evie Brockington who scored from a short corner rebound off the keeper. 1-0 at half time. After a positive half time team talk from Coach Ali Wardale, City 3s went into the second half determined to secure the win and took full control of the match. Our Forwards, Claire Snelling, Helen Brockington, Lucy McNarry and Charlie Hudson-Madge had lots of attacking play which led to a string of short corners. Our second goal was scored by Evie Brockington again! A perfect goal identical to her first, looking calm and effortless! Shortly after, Helen Brockington added to the score line with a clean strike past the keeper from a pass in by Lucy McNarry on the Right Wing. Our final goal scored by Charlie Hudson- Madge was an amazing solo effort hit in from the top of the D. Final score 4-0 to City 3s. A special mention to goalkeeper Joanne Di-Corpo for helping us out and keeping a clean sheet and Frankie Birkenhead for stepping up to support us. An incredible team performance and well deserved win for NCHC Womens 3s.

L (1-2) 11/02/2023 - W5 vs Yarmouth 1 (H / L) AN UNLUCKY LOSS FOR CITY |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 11/02/2023 VS YARMOUTH 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 11/02/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 11/02/2023 HEADLINE: An unlucky loss for City LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Home RESULT: Yarmouth 2 - 1 City REPORT: Norwich City Womens 5’s were hoping for a stronger show after a heavy defeat away to Yarmouth Womens 1’s earlier in the season. Norwich started with confidence and worked hard to stifle a few early attacks from Yarmouth. The two teams were evenly matched. Unfortunately, Yarmouth eventually scored from a clinical short corner and the first half ended 0 - 1 to Yarmouth. The team continued to work well together in the second half with Rose, Alice and Sophie combining well together on the wing to create some promising attacks. In midfield, Amy and Sofia linked quickly to push forward and Corinne worked tirelessly to find space and create options going forward. The defence continued to be challenged and they worked strongly to prevent Yarmouth racking up more, Alli was pivotal and made some strong clearances, Amelie and Millie were quick and reliable with their tackles. But Yarmouth were able to find the back of the net for a second time. Norwich did not let this dampen their spirits and were able to cinch one back from a short corner combination between Alice and Chloe, with Chloe scoring. Norwich continued to battle hard and there were a couple more opportunities in Yarmouth’s D where there was a glimmer of achieving a draw. Yarmouth thought they had made it 3-1 later in the second half with an impressive high shot that looked to be a dead cert, but Emma made the save of the day if not the save of the year (sorry Jo!) and managed to deflect it in the air to keep the margin to 1. The match ended in a 1-2 win for Yarmouth. Norwich battled hard against a strong Yarmouth team and can be proud of today’s performance, it’s fair to say that they achieved their stronger show.

WOMENS 6TH XI - 11/02/2023 VS DEREHAM 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 11/02/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 11/02/2023 HEADLINE: Frustrating defeat at Dereham LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Dereham RESULT: L 5-2 REPORT: The 6s played their hearts out and made City proud, despite the score line, in a frustrating game away at Dereham. We had 2 fabulous goals from Bev Cushion, and Alicia Fairweather in the first half that saw city drawing with Dereham at half time 2-2. We came back fighting in the 2nd half but a relentless run of short corners, amongst other things, left City 5-2 behind. Kate Houldey got POTM, for a fabulous performance in centre half! We go again next week!

W (4-1) 11/02/2023 - M1 vs Loughborough Town 1 (H / L) MENS 1S START FAST AND DON'T LET UP DURING DOMINANT HOME DISPLAY |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 11/02/2023 VS LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 11/02/2023 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 11/02/2023 HEADLINE: Mens 1s start fast and don't let up during dominant home display LEAGUE: CONFERENCE MIDLANDS VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 4-1 W REPORT: The long awaited return of Norwich City Youth player Jake Vincent to Taverham alongside his Loughborough teammates. Having bested Loughborough 7-2 away we knew they would want revenge and adapt to now knowing how we play. Fortunately Louis Preston was on hand to quash their energy from the off. After a free hit was quickly taken, he found Rich Green on the P spot who underhand passed to Cam Cooke on the baseline for him to reverse in with 65 seconds on the clock. 3minutes later Harry Gill raided through and found Cam Cooke on the edge of the D who beat 3 players and found Chris "tapin" Wardale for a trademark finish. Loughborugh sat off for the remainder of the quarter to slow any momentum. Q1 finished 2-0 to City. Quarter 2 once again started fast with Ben Chapman having turned over the ball and won our first short corner within a minute. Unfortunately both the Tom Cooke drag & Elliot Hibell rebound were saved. But 10 minutes later Chris Wardale was on hand to win our 2nd short corner and this time Loughborough weren't able to keep it out, with Elliot Hibell scoring. Half Time 3-0. Quarter 3 started slow with neither side creating much until 10 minutes in. Stu Wardale had a shot and rebound saved before shortly after Stu Wardle and Jonty Black combined to win a short corner. Cam Cooke was on hand to make it a 4 goal lead. Unfortunately a lapse in concentration after our goal saw Loughborough immeditely win a short corner and after it was mistrapped and a hit was bobbled towards goal it squeezed in and the cleansheet was lost. 4-1. Both teams saw out Quarter 4 with Norwich not able to make much of their 3/4 chances. Finished 4-1. This result solidified our 3rd place position with a tough run to come against St Albans, Uni of Notts & City of Peterborugh to really test if we belong in any potential promotion race.
