WOMENS 1ST XI - 10/10/2020 VS DEREHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: City 1s Derby at Dereham LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: DEREHAM RESULT: 5-1 REPORT: City arrived in good spirits despite the heavy rain raring to go and after a lively warm up the game began. The first 30 seconds wasn't our finest and we conceeded the first goal of the game. However, after after some brilliant passing and work rate from all players up the pitch, we turned the game around and were rewarded with a short corner. A well rehearsed routine from Felicity Williams and Alice Gill who managed to deflect it into the top corner of the goal, score 1-1. We picked up our play once again and took advantage of great turn overs and steals of the ball from the players at the back, and were continuing to penetrate the attacking circle where the midfield were working hard to create chances for forwards and after some near misses Alice Gill managed to slip it in to make it 2-1 at half time. After a motivational talk at half time we began the second half fighting and Dereham were too, the battle continued which resulted in another short corner, Ellie managed to slap it into the back of the goal, 3-1. We soon got into the swing of things and every single Norwich player was on top form passing the ball around the opposition brilliantly. Towards the end of the game Flic passed a quick ball from our defending D to Krystal into our attacking 25 who then slipped it to Oli on the back post who put it away with ease, 4-1. Dereham never gave up, but with another great attack from Norwich where the Dereham player stopped the ball on the line with her foot we were rewarded a penalty flick. Taken by Felicity Williams who put it top bin. 5-1 Norwich which ended the game perfectly. Man of the match - Alice Gill.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 10/10/2020 VS FRAMLINGHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: 3 Goals & a Clean Sheet - What More Can We Ask For? LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Ipswich School Sports Centre RESULT: 0-3 Win REPORT: Norwich city 2s arrived in a damp and grey Ipswich, ready to build on their win from the previous week and beat Framlingham. The whistle blew and City came out of the blocks all guns blazing. Some quick sharp passing led to the ball being crossed from the right into the D, where Helen Busfield fired the ball into the goal within the first 5 minutes. City remained confident and strong midfield play from Georgia Cleveland, Niamh Campbell, Emily Francis and Helen Busfield meant that City dominated the half. City came close several times during the first half, however were denied a number of short corners and the half ended 0-1 City returned to the pitch after a rousing half time talk from Captain Leigh-Ann Worrall who asked for more goals, composure and good discipline. Framingham came out fighting and had a few attacks which the defence of Ellie Hobden, Leigh-Ann Worrall, Frankie Birkenhead, Sally Rose and Hannah Nunn dealt with cool heads, turned the ball over and started more City attacks. City spent the majority of the second half in the attacking half, with several players coming close to putting the ball in the back of the net including Milly Brown, Rosie Humphrey and Emma Hewitt all narrowly missing the goal. Niamh Campbell also came close but was denied by the body of a Framlingham defender. The continued pressure paid off and after some silky skills from Niamh who had run circles around her player all game slipped the ball to Helen Busfield who muscled her way to be first to the ball and slotted the ball into the left corner of the goal for her second of the match. City pushed forward again and this led to several short corners. A well worked short corner led to Hannah Nunn sweeping the ball into the corner of the goal, getting her name on the team sheet for the first time in city colours. Shout out to Milly Hyatt for keeping a clean sheet in goal! POTM: Hannah Nunn

L (1-3) 10/10/2020 - W3 vs East Coast 1 (H / L) ANOTHER RAINY SATURDAY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 10/10/2020 VS EAST COAST 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Another Rainy Saturday LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-3 REPORT: The L3’s came out with a strong side on yet another rainy Saturday morning. The start of the game saw City struggling to organise when East Coast had possession and losing the ball frequently, leading to us conceding a goal. The team picked up slightly after this, and we managed to get more circle entries. City was determined to get an outcome from these opportunities, and started looking for short corners. It was this which lead to a incredible flick from Emma Richardson, leaving the score line 1-1. Despite this, our energy seemed to be running low, where East Coast we’re playing at a high intensity. Though we fought, City unfortunately conceded two more goals. However, we picked it up again for the last portion of the match, dominating during this time and giving East Coast very little possession, gaining it back swiftly every time we lost the ball. City created more chances than you would think possible in that space of time. The majority of these opportunities came from some brilliant drives from Emily Leaming and Marie Hood on the right. Although the 3-1 outcome was not what we had hoped for, we had a real improvement from beginning to end of the match, and played some very nice hockey. We can only go upwards from now, and the team has a positive, promising outlook. Well done to Emma Richardson and goalie Molly Grommett for jointly winning POTM.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-1 to NCHC W4s REPORT: A few more new faces in the W4’s again this week, but that didn't stop them coming out strong and working well as a team on yet another rainy Saturday! Although a little quiet the team kicked off well, taking a high percentage of possession from the outset. Lots of energy, but Magpies not allowing much time for thought & fighting hard! Carey Briggs scored with a great rebound in the D, Caroline Illing a nice deflection from being well posted up, and Lucy Walters a cracking straight strike! Overall some great passing around the back by Gillian, great intercepting by Hannah! Score could have been higher with many shots and leads into the D, but Magpies defended well! Overall it was a very well balanced game with some great strength from City. Well done on the 3 goal scorers, Carey Briggs, Caroline Illing & Lucy Walton. POTM went to Maria Marsh.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 10/10/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Nearly a draw! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 1-2 REPORT: City started well, but Dragons got an early goal within the first few minutes, leaving us chasing right from the start. City didn’t let this get to us though, and kept the intensity up, with some great passing and running resulting in a few chances in the first half. City started the second half how we’d left off at the end of the first, and soon got a goal back from a great pass by Sharon Phillips converted by Amy Hinchclife to make it one all. Some solid defending from Kim Moore, Annette Peters, Olivia Hill, Uma Patel and Allison McLellan meant that whilst Dragons got quite a few more chances, and lots of short corners, they didn’t score right up until the very end, where the 5th short corner in the space of 10 minutes was tipped in at the post. City carried on chasing right up until the very end, but ultimately couldn’t get another goal despite lots of good play. Overall, a very competitive match, with an amazing work rate and playing from everyone!

WOMENS 6TH XI - 10/10/2020 VS THETFORD TOWN 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Victory for City LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Breckland Leisure Centre RESULT:2-1 REPORT: City played against Thetford Town who we knew were going to be a very tough team to go against. The start of the game put City on the back foot whilst we go our rhythm and composure. With 0 - 0 at half time, City were keen to keep the goal line even. Soon into the second half Thetford scored but we didn't let it deflate us. We quickly took possession and Mirah Kashif had an amazing one woman run from defense to the D to score a beautiful goal by flicking it just above the goalies feet. That and great composure on the ball earned her POTM which was well deserved. City then kept the pressure up and had majority of the ball in the last 10 minuets. However, an amazing deflection in by Liz Hollis in the closing minuets solidified our victory and made the long drive down a very happy drive back.

WOMENS 7TH XI - 10/10/2020 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 8 (H) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: City takes the win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 6-1 WIN REPORT: City started the match strong with good movement and strong passing, despite the driving rain and soon secured the lead at the hands of captain Sarah Bird. The magpies formed a strong, young and quick opposition but City were able to secure another 3 goals, finished by Sarah Bird once again, with smart ball play and by holding positions well, allowing for strong drives up the wings; leaving it 4-0 at half time. City keen not to be defeated in the 2nd half came back in strong with a solid game plan, to keep doing what they'd been doing. Magpies came back in strong too though and soon got their first goal making it 4-1. City kept their heads up though and pushed on, narrowly missing out on goal 5 by Lauren O Hanlon when advantage was played on what was unfortunately called as a short corner seconds before. Keen not to be deterred Lauren pushed on and with the support of a team so tight, managed to score goals 5 and then 6, leaving the final score as 6-1 to city. A brilliant win and a thoroughly good game had by all.

W (3-1) 10/10/2020 - LD vs Watton (A / L) GOOD SOLID WIN FOR DEVELOPMENT GIRLS |

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 10/10/2020 VS WATTON (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: Good solid win for Development girls LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT:3:1 WIN REPORT: Another rather rainy match first thing in the morning didn't dampen the girl's spirits though. They started off the 1st quarter with some fast play down the left side of the pitch from Millie & Alice Brown. India Fox passed a great ball to Alice Brown who was unlucky to just put the ball to the side of the left post. The play continued fast & furious with some superb passing of the ball between Mirabelle Harden & Evie Brockington in the centre. The girls were denied a goal until they won a short which Evie Brockington injected & a powerful stroke by Millie Power was deflected in by India Fox just before the end of the first quarter The 2nd quarter started with a great run up the right wing by Lottie Hood who injected the ball into the D picking up another short corner which wasn't successful this time but the girls kept the pressure on & the second goal came after a fabulous team effort starting with Amelie Horsley on the wing & involving most of the forwards passing quickly amongst themselves & finished superbly by POTM Millie Power who was consistently battling away for the ball on the left. The 3rd quarter saw the girls concede a short corner in the first 30 seconds which was successfully converted by Watton. The NCHC girls kept fighting though with some great play moving the ball around in midfield by Hollie Blackham. Hollie was unlucky not to score from 2 powerful shots on goal which were saved by the Watton goalie. The third goal came from the side of the D skilfully executed by India Fox. The 4th quarter saw no more goals but some sterling work in defence from Emily Morten who battled away against the oppositions wingers. There was some great defending from Poppy Scott on the left side & Jessica Westbury in goal had to save a couple of Watton shots towards the end. Overall a great team performance- well done girls & thank you as ever to Ali Wardale for great encouragement from the side.

W (6-1) 10/10/2020 - M1 vs City of Peterborough 2 (A / L) 3 WINS FROM 3 PUT CITY TOP OF THE LEAGUE! |

MENS 1ST XI - 10/10/2020 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 10/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 10/10/2020 HEADLINE: 3 wins from 3 put City top of the league! LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Dalrod Sports Centre RESULT: 6-1 REPORT: Another wet October weekend but once again the heavens decided to close and grace us with a dry game just In time for pushback. We took a few minutes to settle into the game but that allowed us to realise Peterborough had only 2 threats today and shutting them down was the key to our success. After the patchy first 10-15 minutes we let our superiority show. After beautiful patient play to keep the ball and frustrate Peterborough for a good 2/3 minutes from Alex Scott, Harry brown and Richard Green. A hard ball down the line to chris wardale who swiftly hit a lovely ball into cam Cooke and a deflection into the bottom corner put us 1-0 up. The tight early stages were forgotten and this lead gave the team all the momentum and we made it pay. Peterborough barely had a sniff for the rest of the half. Ben Chapman turnover at half way a good drive forward led to a wide ball to rafe lochore on debut who played a beautiful ball to cam Cooke who hit it upright om the half volley from the top of the D, the keeper stood no chance. 2-0. After briefly going a man down and it unluckily being tom cooke as the umpire knew someone had to go but picked the one player who made a clean tackle in about 5 stick tackles from us in 30 seconds. We rallied and scored another. Rafe and Harry gill decided that they could take on the entire Peterborough back 4 and they weren't wrong, totally outgunned them all for pace, harry got to the baseline and played the ball back across the D for Rafe to plant home from the P-Spot for a lovely debut goal for the 16yr old. Superb future ahead, watch this space. And we weren't done yet with the first half demolition; similar play to the previous goal, nice play in and out of the centre of the pitch, Louis Preston and Harry gill combining on the baseline to play across to Ben Chapman for an unmarked back post tap-in. 4-0 HT, Peterborough frustrated after the early phases of promise for them. Half time team talk heavily focused on us not throwing anything away and having to win in the last minute for a third week in a row. And this appeared to be taken onboard as 5 minutes later Harry Gill charged through their midfield having taken a free hit quickly, slammed the ball into Pete Morgan who deflected beautifully from the baseline into the opposite top corner. Peterborough had their 5th short corner of the game and Alistair cooke once again denied them, much different to his 0/2 last week, he was on top form. Tom Cooke quickly took a free hit in our half, beat 2 players, played in felix Broadway around the D who dropped a lovely ball into chris wardale who couldnt have hit the ball much harder into the Peterborough net. 6-0. Well deserved goal for the man of the match who'd played a complete role as goal scorer, assister, got a few turnovers and even had spots of tracking back and marking when needed. Unfortunately with 2 minutes to go and with their 7th short corner of the day, Peterborough removed our clean sheet. Alistair lost his chance at man of the match after his previously perfect 68 minutes. All in all, another great display, superb start to the season, well deserved top of the table. I think we all know we havent hit our best form yet and the huge 1st v 2nd match next week as our first real test will be the perfect time to turn everything up a gear. Bring on the east coast derby!

City started the better and created two great goal scoring opportunities with the Ipswich keeper saving well from both Josh Bailey and Adie Land. City continued to assert their dominance but to the surprise of many Ipswich where the ones who opened the scoring with an excellently taken breakaway goal. City however responded well and continued to create many chances but a combination of poor finishing and some excellent saves meant City were goal less at the break. (Also denied a stone wall penalty stroke) HT 0-1 Into the second half and City were determined to be patient with the ball and wait for the chances which would inevitably come. City eventually got their deserved equalizer when Mike Thompson managed to fire home a reverse stick strike on the rebound from a City penalty corner, City took the lead soon after with a similar move this time a Mike Thompson drag flick finding the goal. City now in the lead started to really take control and as Ipswich tired a further two goals were score from two good deflections from Richard Silvester. That is exactly what the captain got. Great work from the forwards and midfield creating chances and limiting Bury to break away attempts which where all thwarted by the city defence. Half time came with the game still at a stalemate city knew they needed to up their game a little more for the second half. Again city responded will to the captain's orders and pressed and pressed resulting in a flurry of short corners only to see all of the attempts go astray. City feeling that the game was in their own hands finally converted a short corner from Rees Leonard. With 8 minutes to go sadly City started to sit deeper and with pretty much the last hit of the game Bury equalised. City can definitely hold their heads high because it was a very good team performance both in defence and attack. MOM - Mark Circuit

The first 10 minutes of the match was an end to end battle and neither team seemed to be controlling the play effectively. Norwich managed to capitalise on an opportunity to take the score to 1-0 by a hard strike from Marcus O’Sullivan. North Norfolk responded with fury and the next 10 mins were again an end to end battle. Norwich managed to capitalise on this and control the game for the rest of the first half, Tim Armstrong made a great run and took Norwich to 2-0 with a one on one battle with the keeper. At the start of the second half, North Norfolk attacked with strong force. This drive meant they managed to score four goals in fairly quick succession. Once City had settled they were pretty much in control with Dereham limited to sporadic breaks though Pete Smith in the City goal was called upon to make a smart save to prevent Dereham going ahead. Thereafter full backs Charles Anderson and James Dorling thwarted most Dereham attacks. City went ahead from a good move down the right Cameron Hansells cross being converted at the far post by a diving Paul Kassulke. Cameron Hansell added a second weaving in along the goal line before dinking the ball reverse stick past Richard Turner, the Dereham keeper, who made a number of good stops. John Ewart added a third before half time a somewhat fortuitous reverse stick shot that looped over the keeper. After the break the match continued in the same vein. The evergreen Dave Woodward was on hand to turn in two crosses and John Ewart grabbed himself a second to make the final score 6-0. Lucas Hay took the man of the match honours with a good display at left half combining solid defending with some good attacking forays.
