WOMENS 1ST XI - 10/11/2019 VS DEREHAM (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 10/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 10/11/2019 HEADLINE: NCHC Women’s 1s kick off their 2019/2020 Tier 2 cup campaign with a win against local rivals Dereham Women’s Tier 2 Cup Championships VENUE: TRF RESULT: W 2-1 REPORT: Following an undefeated 4 weeks in East Prem NCHC women’s 1s welcomed Dereham 1s to TRF. Raring to go with a full squad of 16 City were straight out of the blocks keen to see what their local league opposition had to offer. Some great team play by City led to their first goal by Captain Ellie Brine. Dereham worked hard to break City down but to no avail with great work from City in all areas of the pitch. City’s second goal came in the second half from Krystal Bishop who’s first and second strikes hit the keepers pads but her third was powered into the roof of the goal. 2-0 up, City worked hard to maintain possession and their lead. Dereham upped their tempo and City continued to work hard in midfield and defense to keep them at bay. A string of defensive short corners in the last 10 minutes led to Dereham eventually scoring but the final score was 2-1 to Norwich City. Great team effort.

St Albans came out strong in the second half but Norwich held them off, utilising the depth of the squad to keep their defence watertight and end the game 2-0. City’s second win of the season earned them some much needed points and set the tone for some excellent birthday celebrations for coach Pies!

L (2-3) 09/11/2019 - W2 vs East Coast 1 (A / L) NOT QUITE AN IDYLLIC TRIP TO THE COAST |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 09/11/2019 VS EAST COAST 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: Not quite an idyllic trip to the Coast LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: East Point Academy RESULT: 3-2 Loss REPORT: City’s 2nd XI travelled away to East Coast this week with an unprecedented squad of fifteen which instilled confidence in the previously unbeaten team. High spirits and laughter in the changing room was further fuelled by an energising and motivating talk by Captain Leigh-Ann Worrall before being followed by a trademark Frankie Birkenhead warm up. Prepared and ready City took to the pitch and were shocked, despite passages of solid defending and successful outletting by Sally Rose working with Karren Dagless, to see East Coast score two well worked goals in the first twenty minutes. City remained determined and decisive play by Georgia Cleveland and Rachel Mayne saw Norwich continually pushing forward aggressively. Helen Bjsfield’s tireless harassment of the opposition’s defence led to an East Coast player fumbling with the ball. This was picked up by Milly Brown who deftly slid the ball past another defender to Lizzie Cheesman who took it to the left of the keeper and slotted it home. Buoyed by this City had a near miss minutes later when a mature pass from youngster Kate Houldey found space in the D with Emma Hewitt then directing it goalwards. Unfortunately East Coast had numbers in the circle and it came to nothing. Norwich went into halftime 2-1 down. After a talk and some guidance from Ali Wardale City restarted with renewed energy. However despite numerous saves and constant communication from goalie Sophie Turner, East Coast’s continuing hard work was rewarded with another goal. City bounced back quickly with Ellyn Roberts intercepting a pass and slinging it quickly to Rosie Humphrey in the middle who, stalwartly fighting with an injury, carried the ball into East Coast’s half. It was picked up by Rosie Ringer who displayed silky skills as she passed it to Emma Hewitt who twirled and wove into the D before laying it off in the middle of a densely packed East Coast circle. Lizzie Cheesman had her back to goal but with luck managed to push it in the right direction, it skimmed the post and it was a well worked team goal. The game continued with multiple Norwich attacks in which City justified their high league position. However some ill discipline reduced City to 10 for the remainder of the match. Undeterred, City had their final opportunity to equalise but a savvy East Coast packed the circle and it was not to be. The game ended 3-2 to East Coast. City demonstrated true team spirit and mental toughness coming back from 2-0 at such an early point in the game, and they go again next week against an unbeaten Watton ready to play winning hockey again. Maiden-Of-The-Match: Lizzie Cheesman

W (5-1) 09/11/2019 - W3 vs Norwich Dragons 4 (A / L) BIG WIN! |

WOMENS 3RD XI - 09/11/2019 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: Big win! LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den (away) RESULT: 1-5 (win) REPORT: City's mighty third team stepped up to outplay hosts Dragons 4s and finish with a convincing victory. With a super squad of 16 players, City had to be on their toes and communicate effectively, which they did with increasing confidence as the match progressed. The game was evenly contested to begin with but City got into their stride, with Mia Moore eventually breaking the deadlock from a well worked short corner. Olivia Greenway scored City's second shortly after, converting a rebound from Player of the Match Marie Hood's shot. City gained a three goal lead going into half time after another short corner, calmly pushed into the back of the net on the reverse stick by Gabby Sharp. City really stepped up a gear in the second half, switching the ball well and creating space for their forwards to attack. Emily Greenway smashed a goal in the bottom corner from an excellent run and ball from Jenni Czerwinski. City's superb defence worked well together throughout and keeper Serena Scott made some great reaction saves, however the visitors were caught off guard before the end, and it was a credit to Dragons that they scored a break away goal. However, City finished strongly, with Ellie Hobden converting their third short corner of the game on the final whistle. A well earned three points, showing what depth City have in their squad. Special thanks to coaches Ali Wardale and Nick Hooper for managing to get all 16 players a good game!

D (1-1) 09/11/2019 - W4 vs Evergreens 1 (H / L) A CLOSE DRAW FOR CITY |
---|
WOMENS 4TH XI - 09/11/2019 VS EVERGREENS 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: A close draw for city LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: home RESULT: 1-1 REPORT: Womens 4s took to the pitch full of positivity following our win last week. We knew however, that we needed to play well to get a result from this game against a strong mid-table Evergreens team. City started well building strongly from defence and making good use of our wide players. Teamwork was good with great attacking play, resulting in a great run and cross from Lucy Mcnarry creating a chance for Mille Hay, which she put away. City 1-0 up. Evergreens responded well and put the pressure on, but city defended well so it remained 1-0 to us at half time. In the second half city played well, created several chances and had some short corners, but unable to convert. It was Evergreens that scored a goal following good pressure in the city box. The last 10 minutes or so were rather frantic, with both teams having chances, but the final result ended 1-1. Well done girls. A great team performance and another point.

WOMENS 5TH XI - 09/11/2019 VS BECCLES 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: A winning team performance! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 3-1 REPORT: City's fab fives performed well winning at home against Beccles 1! With a strong start we held our shape, communicated and marked well and kept good possession of the ball. Carol Mc Narry successfully converted a short corner to bring us our first goal. There were great runs on the wings by Sarah Barron and Amy Hinchliffe one of which resulted in a great pass to Olivia Broadway who got us our second goal. Beccles fought back well and on their first short corner won back a goal to bring the half time result 2-1. In the second half City picked up more speed and determination and saw more attacking play, space created and more great passing down the right from Maria Marsh and Lucy Wimhurst. There were several chances on short corners which didn't convert but we remained strong. Great little passes down the pitch on the right finished with a good pass to Olivia Broadway who had a great strike at goal which was deflected in by Sharon Philips bringing the final result to 3-1. Thank you to Annette Peters for running a busy bench for us and cheering us on. A well earned three points following a great team game and performance womens.

L (0-3) 09/11/2019 - W6 vs UEA 3 (H / L) A LOSS BUT AN ENJOYABLE MATCH FOR CITY |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 09/11/2019 VS UEA 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: A loss but an enjoyable match for City LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 0-3 REPORT:It was a great match with end to end play and City constantly working the ball up into the opponent's D. However, strong defending from the visitors, who are enjoying a good run of results this season, meant that the home team just couldn’t find the net - despite winning plenty of short corners. Neat player link-ups by a youthful and speedy UEA meant they scored twice in the first half and then once in the second half. Despite the result, impressive sportswomanship and a positive attitude from UEA made the game enjoyable and the team a pleasure to host at Taverham.

WOMENS 7TH XI - 09/11/2019 VS UEA 4 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: City Frustrated By Missed Chances LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: UEA RESULT: 0-0 REPORT: City 7s were frustrated by a 0-0 draw against a much improved UEA 4s team. City defended fantastically to keep the UEA forwards at bay and a great performance in goal from outfield player Helen McCall secured the clean sheet. The City midfield and forwards worked well to keep pushing the ball up the pitch and had regular penetrations into the D. Frustratingly, despite many chances, City were unable to find the back of the net. There were lots of positives to take from the game and if City keep working hard then the goals will come. L (0-7) 09/11/2019 - M1 vs West Herts 1 (A / L) TOUGH GAME FOR THE MENS 1ST XI |

MENS 1ST XI - 09/11/2019 VS WEST HERTS 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: Tough Game for the Mens 1st XI LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: On Saturday Norwich city men’s 1’s took on West Harts 1st team. Facing a long journey to Watford on a rather bleak afternoon in the pouring down rain against a team that sat securely at the top of the table was intimidating, something which clearly affected Alastair Cooke, who after a brief foray into rally driving almost wrapped his truck around a tree. City got off to a poor start conceding 3 quick goals within the first 10 minutes, despite this rattling start they did manage to find a foothold and began working to keep West Herts at bay. Captain Louis Preston took a stick to the head and whilst manager Iain Martin was tending to his needs, VC Thomas Cooke took it upon himself to get the team round and give and sort out defensive positioning to combat West Herts’ attack. After the short break city started playing much better hockey and even managed to get a couple of shots away at the other end of the pitch, which gave the defense a short, but much-needed break. West Herts then managed to pick up a couple of attacking short corners, which were well-rehearsed routines and executed, managing to pick up another 2 goals shortly before half time. Half time - 5-0 down. The second half was totally different, city played some very good hockey and managed to break down the vast majority of West Herts attacks. The opposition had plenty of attacking shorts corners but City manned to defend them well. City finished the game losing 7-0. A scoreline that didn’t reflect how well city played right through until the end. West Harts were a far better team who are currently top of the league and look set to secure promotion without much difficulty this season. Man of the match was Alastair Cooke who, despite conceding 7, performed very well against skilled opposition

MENS 2ND XI - 09/11/2019 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: City 2's back to their best LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: Win 4-0 REPORT: Norwich City put in a emphatic performance at the weekend running out comfortable winners in this local derby. Building on previous good performances City put it all together last Saturday with some exceptional spells in the game and scored four team goals. A solid defence, that was never in particular difficulty throughout the game, held strong that enabled the midfield and forwards to show their flair at times and cause the Dragons defence trouble on most attacks. Lets bring this performance again next week when we play top of the league. Goals scored by Jack Luther, Tom Ling, JCB and Tom Hindle with POM Alex Scott.

MENS 3RD XI - 09/11/2019 VS IPSWICH EAST SUFFOLK 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 09/11/2019 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 09/11/2019 HEADLINE: Youth and experience provide entertaining spectacle LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: With a much changed team and only 11 players it took Norwich a few minutes to settle and IES quickly took advantage and in no time at all City found themselves 2 goals behind. Gradually playing some fine passing hockey City gained a foothold in the match. Some well worked moves resulted in a couple of chances created which sadly City just failed to take. So it came as a slight surprise that just before half time IES converted a short corner to take a 3 goal lead into the break. The second half saw City continue to push IES back with some fine flowing hockey which eventually was rewarded when Will Riddleston converted a short corner mid way through the half. Sadly any thoughts of a comeback were quashed by a 4th goal for IES scored after another long mazy run from one of the strong midfield players. This was a very entertaining game with two contrasting styles of play. IES featured several players who would not look out of place further up the league structure while City fielded a number of younger players who all acquitted themselves very well and showed great promise, well corralled by a few senior wise heads. IES were worthy winners but City know that with a better start and a few chances taken the result could have been different.
