WOMENS 1ST XI - 09/10/2021 VS OLD LOUGHTONIANS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: NCHC 1 vs Old Loughtonians 1 LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Old Loughts RESULT: 4-2 REPORT: Womens 1’s travelled to Old Loughtonians for their 4th game this season. Expecting a close game, city played strong straight from the whistle, following Coach Matthew Brines instructions. Within the first 5 minutes, City found themselves on the attack with Stacey and Krystal using their skills to create chances. When the ball fell to Olivia Williams, who found the back of the next, putting City in the lead. Summer stayed focused in goal, stopping any threat from Old Loughtonians which they created on the break. By taking free hits early, City transferred the ball across the pitch opening up the play, with a nice link up from Hanna Hall, Jocasta Staines and Lucy Walton. Leading the ball to Rosie Ringer who fires a ball into the D, finding Stacey Lee who added on to City’s lead, making it 2-0. Moments before the half time whistle went, Old Loughtonians made it 2-1 after being awarded a penalty flick. Going into the second half, city maintained the intensity, with Jocasta Staines, Lucy Tilbrook, Hanna Hall and Ella Gill all working tiredlessly throughout the midfield. But efforts soon payed of as a well timed pass from Olivia Williams found Krystal on the far post who started of her goal tally by slotting it passed the keeper. But Old Loughts didn’t give up too easily, gaining possession and testing the back line. But Hannah Nunn, Micayla Toothill, Pui Foung Chung, Hannah Jarvis and Lucy Walton saw to any threats and kept calm, whilst offering support when going forward. Krystal added to her goal count, after firing the ball past the keeper, and creating a 4-1 lead for city. With not long left until the final whistle, a feisty Old Loughtonians side found themselves in a goal scoring opportunity, which they managed to convert, making the final score 4-2. POTM: Lucy Walton

W (3-0) 09/10/2021 - W2 vs Norwich Dragons 3 (H / L) COOL PLAY ON A HOT DAY |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 09/10/2021 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: Cool play on a hot day LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: With captain Georgia Cleveland back at the helm City 2s set out determined to retain their winning ways against a side that have been known to throw up a few surprises but not today… City started out confident with the intention to upset the opposition early on. Lots of pressure and clever play saw City awarded a short corner. A perfectly executed routine and straight strike from Emily Francis put City up 1-0 within the first 10 minutes. Continued pressure and some nifty stick work saw City achieve several short corners but just could not capitalise on them. City forward line-up of Emily Francis, Gabby Sharp, Rosie Humphrey, Emma Hewitt and Milly Brown kept working relentlessly and were eventually rewarded with the next goal from a ball delivered by Gabby Sharp coming across from the right to be put in the back of the net by Emma Hewitt City’s well organised and quickly set presses gave Dragon’s few opportunities to get the ball away cleanly and only the bounce allowed for the escaping ball to reach the midfield being quickly shut down by the tireless efforts of Georgia Cleveland, Dani Sizer, Emily Leeming and Lauren Lawrie who linked well with the forwards to create some nice passages of play. Dragon’s rarely threatened and the few break away attacks that did reach City’s circle were swiftly dealt with by the solid defensive unit comprising Leigh-Ann Worrall, Sabina Baker, Sally Rose and ‘super sub’ Suzy Edwards under the clear vocal direction of keeper Georgina Barrett. The energy sapping heat started to take its toll in the second half and the play became stretched with some periods of end to end play but City never gave up, pushing for more and spending a lot of the game in the oppositions half. Another short corner routine saw Emily Francis again taking the ball and beating several players to tuck it away for goal number 3 with a ‘touch’ from Rosie Humphrey just to make sure. Another great team effort and successful mission

L (2-3) 09/10/2021 - W3 vs Loddon 1 (H / L) A GAME OF TWO HALVES |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 09/10/2021 VS LODDON 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: A game of two halves LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-3 REPORT: The match had an interesting start, with the Loddon goalkeeper going to the wrong ground, forcing them to start with 10 on field players and no keeper! Despite strong attempts to exploit this advantage, City could not break their way through the Loddon defence. Loddon came back on the attack strongly, exploiting the fact the City were taking their time to get into their usual groove. Two goals were scored in quick succession with a third deflection heading into the top corner. Now City, instead of letting their heads fall, stepped up and began to play their hockey – a real credit to the team and attitude. From this point onwards City dominated play with some exceptional distribution through the middle of the pitch from Emma Richardson, opening up the play down the wings, allowing Ellie Alderton, Lucy McNarry and Emily Greenway to mount some excellent passing attacks down the left. A short corner was won and, after an excellent injection from Hollie Joyce the ball found the back of the net thanks to one of Emma Richardson’s epic drag flicks. City were well and truly back in the game. After a positive and constructive team talk at half time, City returned to the field pumped and focused. Communication was steady and clear enabling us to mount attack after attack on Loddon's 'D' winning short corner after short corner. City passed the ball with commitment and strength making Loddon work hard to get possession. With seven minutes to go, a scramble in the 'D' enabled Ellie Alderton to put a reverse stick goal in the bottom left hand corner bringing the score to 3-2. POTM was deservedly won by Emma Richardson whose strength and composure in the middle of the field was exceptional this week.

D (2-2) 09/10/2021 - W5 vs Watton 2 (A / L) SAND AND SUN- IT FELT LIKE BEING AT THE BEACH. |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 09/10/2021 VS WATTON 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: Sand and Sun- it felt like being at the beach. LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Watton RESULT: 2-2 Draw The first 5 minutes felt very tense, slow balls on the sandy pitch meaning interceptions from Watton who seemed strong - knowing how to treat the ball in regards to the pitch. A break by city a few minutes later, leading to a ruthlessly hit goal from Millie Wimhurst, lifted moral and eventually lead to another awesome goal from Emily Winter. By the end of the first half City were looking really strong, very fast and having lots of possession. The second half was just as strong, but Watton came on stronger than the first half, a goal and then an unfortunate penalty drew the scores. City did really well to keep Watton from gaining another point - there was a particularly great save by Jess Tunnard during a short corner with 2 minutes to go! Overall, both teams played really well, adapting to the pitch well and good communication - we can’t be disappointed with a draw!

WOMENS 7TH XI - 09/10/2021 VS WATTON 3 (A) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: Sand & heat at Watton on sea! LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Watton Sports Centre RESULT: lost 2-1 REPORT: The 7's were really ready for their first win of the season but it was not to be. They took a while to get going on the sandy Watton pitch & Watton dominated the first half with their first goal coming from a short & their second an amazing strike which we could do nothing about! Unfortunately our closest to a goal in the first half came form Saskia Ashdown whose ball landed on the goal line but never actually crossed it! City dominated the 2nd half with great runs up & down the pitch by Clare Clark & Emily Burnett & eventually a brilliant strike from Saskia gave her the goal she very much deserved. City continued to pile on the pressure with Helen Lewis controlling the middle of the pitch & a fantastic debut by Alice Brand who was strong in defence & kept Watton off the score card in the 2nd half. Thank you to Ellis Couzins, Sam Harvey & Lauren O'Hanlon for helping us out We will get the first win of the season soon............watch this space! Well done every one of the team who really gave it their all on the sandy pitch in the heat of the afternoon sun

W (6-2) 09/10/2021 - M2 vs Harleston Magpies 3 (A / L) CITY 2’S PILE ON THE GOALS |

MENS 2ND XI - 09/10/2021 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: City 2’s pile on the goals LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Magpies RESULT: 6-2 REPORT: City’s 2’s travelled to unbeaten Magpies buoyed by their emphatic win against Bury a week earlier. And true to form City came out of the blocks fastest with a flurry of goals from Cresswell x 2, Marchant and Patel which left Magpies shell shocked and searching for a route back into the game. They were rewarded for a quick counter attack move which left their centre forward entering the D and letting off a clinical finish - half time saw lead Norwich 4-1. Norwich were wary that Magpies would likely look to continue their momentum from the end of the first half and come at Norwich hard. City’s men responded with a professional display and the hardworking midfield of Hindle, Circuit and Patel dominated long spells of possession and looked to quell any sniff of a Magpies attack. Magpies purple patch came 20 minutes into the second half scoring another well worked goal and now chasing a third to pile the pressure whack onto Norwich. Again City responded instantly with goals from Hindle and Josh Bailey to reassert a four goal cushion. City saw out the last minutes of the game to cap an impressive performance and would look forward to the chance of another home win against the travelling Newmarket.

D (0-0) 09/10/2021 - M3 vs East Coast 1 (H / L) LIVELY DRAW IN COSTA DEL TAVERHAM |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 09/10/2021 VS EAST COAST 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: Lively draw in Costa del Taverham LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Norwich City 3s 0-0 East Coast 1s REPORT: Confidence was high for Norwich, with some impressive previous results and an unbeaten run which the team wasn’t ready to give up just yet. Starting with our usual strong squad, the 3s demonstrated some quickfire pace which forced the East Coast keeper into some solid saves to keep the score goalless. The game quickly developed into an end to end barrage of shots and attacking moves which forced Norwich’s own goalkeeper Tom Franks to read the game well and pull off a string of fine saves. The Norwich defence was anchored in the middle with Clive Cricket Crichton and Freddie Royall putting in fantastic performances, repelling East Coast attacks and playing the ball well out of the back. The pattern of the game was set, it was end to end with plenty of goal mouth action and drama to keep the spectators happy. Norwich’s strength and resilience in midfield saw them begin to out play the opposition and feed the ball through to the forwards who were queuing up to have a shot on goal. But still, the East Coast keeper remained defiant. Half time was here, and both keepers would have been wondering how they still had a clean sheet. 0 – 0. Norwich started the second half with a wave of attacks and short corners. Ethan Rushton, Ross Butler and others having excellent chances to put the 3s ahead, but just couldn’t break the deadlock. It was here that East Coast began to lose their cool slightly and engage in some dangerous communications with both Norwich, and the umpires. They were now relying on the counter attack, and on the rare occasion that Coast did make it through, Tom Franks was there along with his defence to keep them at bay. Norwich’s attacking prowess became constant, in the desperate hope that a winner could be found, it was not to be. Even with short corners and numerous attacks, Norwich could not find a way through. The match finished 0 – 0, with East Coast celebrating like they had won the game. It was a good point away from home for them, and Norwich will be disappointed not to have put the game to bed. MOTM: Tom Franks.

MENS 5TH XI - 09/10/2021 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 4 (H) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 09/10/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 09/10/2021 HEADLINE: Unlucky for Norwich 5s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: L 2-1 REPORT: Bury 4s travelled to Taverham with the sun setting over the H2O pitch and unseasonably warm weather, the game set off with a strong start. Promising link up play going forward and a couple of short corners being won made it feel like the fifth team were close to going ahead. Unfortunately despite some great saves made by Chris Watson to keep City in the game Bury capitalised and went ahead. Bury had a strong midfield although felt challenged by City when pressed. Two goals against the run of play meant Bury were two goals ahead by half time. The second half brought new energy from the fifth team. Rees’ short corner persistence eventually paid off with a minor deflection taking the ball into the corner of the goal away from the keeper. Despite a flurry of cards in which Tim and Tom left the pitch after greens, City left the pitch feeling like an extra 10 minutes would have given a different result and perhaps a draw. The game ended with Bury 2, City 1. Player of the Match: Duncan Harris
