WOMENS 1ST XI - 06/11/2021 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 06/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 06/11/2021 HEADLINE: NORWICH CITY 1 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY 2 LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: NCHC L1s played against Cambridge City L2s at Taverham for a 1:00 push back. It was a tense first 10 minutes to a very evenly match contest. As a team we were determined not to let Cambridge score first or let them score a quick goal at the start of the match. After the first 10, we started to settle into the game and playing our own hockey. With some good plays starting from strong transfers around the back, consequently leading to us starting to penetrate the oppositions D more and more. After three very close attempts of goals from short corners, with a short transfer from a long corner, Jo Staines crossed the ball to the top right of the D, then Rosie Ringer slipped it through to Stacey Lee who strikes into the bottom left hand corner, which came just before half time. After half time we hit them with some excellent composed hockey, which resulted in a successful short corner, whereby Ellie Brine, Harriet Preston all had trys from rebounds, however Oli Williams got there on the left post to make it 2-0. After Cambridge had a lucky break away goal, the last ten minutes also became very tense and exiting. Overall a brilliant game, with excellent skills and determination from everyone in the team, leading to some lovely compliments from the other team and spectators watching.

WOMENS 2ND XI - 06/11/2021 VS EAST COAST 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 06/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 06/11/2021 HEADLINE: 100% Win Record Continues LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: East Point Academy RESULT: 7-0 win REPORT: City had an early start this week and travelled to the chilly seaside town of Lowestoft. Keen to get moving they warmed up clearing the firework debris off the pitch from the evening before. Team talk from captain Georgia Cleveland was pretty much keep up the good work, and so we did. Within, 5 minutes Emily Francis threaded a beautiful weighted ball to a lone Rosie Humphrey who rounded the keeper and slotted home the first goal of the game. 0-1 to the visitors. City continued to hassle East Coast’s defence, Emma Hewitt battled to keep a loose ball in play on the baseline and tucked it away to double the lead. 0-2. Forwards; Milly brown, Emily Leeming and Mia Moore continued to make a nuisance of themselves in the D and shortly a short corner was rewarded. Emily Francis and Rosie Humphrey mirror imaged the goal from last week with a back to the injector routine, for Rosie to bury the third. 0-3 to City. With time and space on the ball, Georgia, Hannah Hall, Lauren Lawrie and Dani Sizer played some lovely hockey in midfield. Lauren continuously closed down play and battled hard to turnover the ball. Hannah with her high intensity and work rate distributed the ball well out to Dani and Lauren either side and before they knew it City were knocking again on East Coast’s door. After multiple shots on goal Emily Francis picked up one of the rebounds, spun and pushed it past the keeper. 0-4 to City. City continued their goal campaign with a lovely ball in from Francis for Emma to smash home the fith. 0-5 to City. Mia Moore won City a penalty flick before half time, Rosie stepped up but unfortunately, poorly aimed straight down the middle. Half time. City step out hard and within 8 minutes of the second half, Hannah fires a precision ball into the D to Francis for a reverse deflection. 0-6 to City. For a good spell in the second half the home side fought back putting City under more pressure than they would have liked. However, City’s solid defence comprised of Sabina Baker, Lucy Walton and Sally Rose calmly saw to any incoming threats. Keeper Georgina Barratt only had to make one save of the game but was a fabulous diving stick save to keep her clean sheet. City turned it over in the last 5/10 mins seeing Sabina chuck some ariels out from defence and Lucy distributing high up the pitch. 2 minutes before the final whistle Lauren drove the baseline and threw a perfect ball across the goal mouth for Rosie to deflect, the keeper saved it but committed to ground, Rosie picked up the rebound and hit home the final goal to seal her hat-trick. 0-7. Well done to the whole team for another great performance in the promotion campaign.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 06/11/2021 VS REEPHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 06/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 06/11/2021 HEADLINE: Guy Fawkes Game LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 1-0 REPORT: NCHC L3’s V’s Reepham 1’s 1-0 win A squad of 15 met at TRF for a late game this Saturday, eager for another win. City dominated the play from the outset, setting up multiple shots on goal through constructive play. A short corner was won after a flick shot from Ellie Alderton was deflected off a defenders body. This allowed city to utilize their new short corner routines. Although well executed, city were unable to convert. A strong press made it difficult for Reepham to mount any significant attacks. A stunning shot from Felicity Williams hit the backboard before half time leaving city 1-0 up. The second half began again with city playing their hockey, utilizing the passes around the back four to maintain possession. Reepham challenged hard this half pressing the D, but the excellent skills of Gemma Sargent, Karen Dagless, Uma Patel and Gillian Allen (POTM) meant that no real threatening shots on goal were made. The final quarter saw consistent pressure from city, mounting attack after attack with some great injections into the D coming from both left and right, however, when the whistle went for full time the score still lay at 1-0 to city. A lot of positivity throughout the game (as well as fireworks) helped city really find and play their game, leading to the win. Here’s to next Saturday!

WOMENS 6TH XI - 06/11/2021 VS DEREHAM 5 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 06/11/2021 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 06/11/2021 HEADLINE: A Tough Away Game LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 5 NORTH EAST NORTH VENUE: Dereham Hockey Club RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: The NCHC Womens’ 6s travelled away to play Dereham 5s for a late 4.30 PB. From the start, Dereham demonstrated they would be tough opposition, keeping City’s defence working hard. However, City eventually found their rhythm, making strong passes and some great runs from midfield to give City some excellent opportunities at goal which unluckily were denied by Dereham. Norwich’s persistence paid off with Susan Matthews finding the back of the net to give City a 1-0 lead at halftime. City came out of half time determined to secure their lead. Norwich kept the attacking pressure. Lauren O’Hanlon intercepted a Dereham ball in the attacking 25 and quickly seized the opportunity to score, which saw City 2-0 up. City dominated the second half and many times nearly scored with the ball just rolling wide of the goal. Some rapid breaks from Emily Winter also helped to throw Dereham off. Then City scored their 3rd and final goal from a strong diagonal pass from centre forward Ellis Couzins to Millie Wimhurst in the D, who slipped it past Dereham’s goalkeeper. Dereham put together some attacking pressure in the 2nd half, making some quick runs into the D and winning some short corners but Norwich’s defensive effort with some amazing saves by our goalkeeper and deflections by sweeper Liz Hollis held Dereham off. City were relieved to hear the final whistle and delighted to bring home a 3-0 win. A brilliant overall team performance for City.

MENS 1ST XI - 06/11/2021 VS DEREHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 06/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 06/11/2021 HEADLINE: Men's 1s Make it 7 Wins from 7 with a Big Victory Against Norfolk Rivals LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Dereham RESULT: 8-1 Win REPORT: After completing the shortest away day we'll have this year we were in good spirits and ready to get going in a game we always know will bring some added spice in the Norfolk turf war. We started well, putting some phases of play together and forced some early saves. But in classic City style we managed to get caught in attack and a quick Dereham break saw them go from one end to the other, round Alastair into an empty net for the lead. After that we switched on and were solid under the high ball and looked to end every Dereham attack before it got dangerous. This fed through into the attack with more and more chances coming and them looking more and more dangerous. A few shorts were won, not many were scored but with the 3rd one we did see the net bulge from a Cameron Cooke flick. Then just before half time a Thomas Cooke aerial was controlled down by Ben Chapman just outside the D and fed into Cameron Cooke who planted it into the far top corner to se us into the lead. 2-1 HT. 2nd half was a much different story. we were still fresh and lively, whilst Dereham started to lag. Harry Gill came on did what Harry Gill does. 2 strong drives round the top of the D and 2 open hits from the top D led to 2 goals and a 4-1 lead. Alastair Cooke kept out the few attacks Dereham did have impeccably. Cameron Cooke then completed his hattrick with a dribble from SC corner injection, went round 3 then the GK then still decided to flick it as hard as he could into the underside of the crossbar. 5-1. Cameron Cooke then turned provided for the 6th with a lovely ball to the back post for a Pete Morgan deflection. Thomas Cooke's aerials had caused havoc all day with Dereham struggling to understand the 5metre rule and with the defender backing off and allowing Harry Gill in before Pete Morgan played the ball to Cameron Cooke we had our 7th. We finished off the day with a Stu Wardle turnover in midfield, Harry Gill run, Cameron Cooke rounding the keeper and planting into an empty net for an 8-1 win. Always nice to win well away from home, especially after an off-week last week against Saffron. With other results going our way we're now 6pts clear with a 100% record and GD of 37. 3 big games coming up against 6th, 4th and 2nd so lets keep pushing and end 2021 in an outstanding position!

MENS 5TH XI - 06/11/2021 VS NORWICH DRAGONS 5 (A) TEAM: Mens 5th XI DATE: 06/11/2021 FIXTURE: Mens 5th XI VS 06/11/2021 HEADLINE: Dominant play for the Norwich 5s LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragon's Den RESULT: 3-0 W REPORT: In our match against Dragons 5’s, we won 3-0 and the team played excellently, as a team we worked together in pairs and sometimes threes on and off the ball to earn ourselves short corners and other penalties. We held a majority of possession throughout the match and overall it was a great game. It took us about 10 minutes to officially get into the flow of the game but then we started playing really well, but towards the end a few of us started to falter but that’s nothing that can’t be improved.
