WOMENS 1ST XI - 05/11/2022 VS SUDBURY 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 05/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 05/11/2022 HEADLINE: #Allthehashtags LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Taverham RESULT: Norwich City 5 - Sudbury 1 Top of the league Norwich City womens welcomed bottom of the league Sudbury for their 7th fixture of the 22/23 season. City got off to a dream start with Krystal Bishop continuing her goal running streak, with a perfectly timed through ball from Captain Ellie Brine for Bishop to slot the ball expertly around the keeper and Into the back of the net within the first few minutes of the match. City worked the ball patiently around the pitch, with Harriet Preston and Fongy making impressive supportive runs down the flanks, Felicity Williams, Ella Gill & Micayla Tootill controlled the middle of the pitch in style, creating endless opportunities for city, as per usual. Olivia Williams step count must have been off the scale, continuously making leads and creating space for others to attack the D. A second goal followed very soon after, with once again, on form Bishop, finding herself in prime position to smash the ball into the back of net. Sudbury worked hard to break through Cities press and a rare break resulted in an unfortunate goal from a short corner. 2-1 to City at half time. An Inspiring team talk at half time was called for, lift the spirit and play our game, resulted in city working much harder in the second half. Alice Gill, Lucy Tilbrook, Emily Francis and Ellie Brine worked tirelessly together and intelligently in the midfield, resulting in numerous short corners being awarded. Felicity Williams fired her trademark disguised pass across the goal for Hanna Hall to deflect into the net 3-1, another deflection from Hall at a short gave city the lead they deserved and needed 4-1. Alice Gill completed the scoring with another, final score 5-1. A wonderfully controlled match by the umpires, and a nice 3 points for birthday boy Pies.

W (9-1) 05/11/2022 - W2 vs Watton 1 (A / L) 3 POINTS=3RD PLACE |

WOMENS 2ND XI - 05/11/2022 VS WATTON 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 05/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 05/11/2022 HEADLINE: 3 points=3rd place LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: Watton RESULT:9-1 Win REPORT: This week saw another away trip for City to the sandy sandy beaches of Wattons pitch. With a solid team of 14 City we’re raring to go from the whistle and that is just what they did! Within the first 5 minutes a lovely ball was played from Hannah Jarvis at the back up the sideline to Sophie Bendon. Sophie then crossed it in to on running Helen Harper who with one sweep slotted the goal in (her first goal for City!). After this City settled in to continued pressure which saw 3 more goals scored in the first half by Helen Busfield, Rosie Ringer and Emma Hewitt. Half time came and Coach Chris Wardale, like us, was hungry for more goals. Spurred on by half time sweets Helen Busfield also wanted more and stated ‘let’s double it!’. And this is exactly what City did. The second half started as the first half did with Rosie Ringer (knowing she had just missed a great opportunity in the first half) absolutely smash one past the goal keeper in true Ringer style. However, you could not falter the Watton positivity who started putting the pressure on. However the defensive line of Gillian Allen, Libby Thorne, Uma Patel, Hannah Jarvis and goal keeper Summer Haylock worked hard to keep the ball out of the goal. Just a cheeky scoping short corner which took everyone by surprise saw Watton get their only goal of the game. Despite this City picked up the pace again and the ball was worked tirelessly through the middle by player of the match Angela Hindle (first game for the 2s this season!) on to captain Georgia Cleveland, Helen Busfield, Lauren Lawrie and Helen Harper. In total 5 goals were scored in the second half by Rosie Ringer, Lauren Lawrie, Helen Busfield, Sophie Bendon, but most notable was Milly Browns who calmly dinked the ball over a grounded keeper. All in all a great win for City who are now solidifying their place in this new league and proving they deserve to be there.

L (1-7) 05/11/2022 - W3 vs Colchester 1 (H / L) A RAINY SATURDAY AND AN EARLY START... |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 05/11/2022 VS COLCHESTER 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 05/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 05/11/2022 HEADLINE: A rainy Saturday and an early start... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: Lost 7-1 REPORT: This week City 3s played host to Colchester 1s, and despite initial concerns over a lack of our normal defenders, City started the game with an air of confidence. An early attack into the Colchester D saw Helen Brockington set up Emily Greenway for an excellent opening goal. Unfortunately, Colchester reacted with vigor and soon evened the score with a goal of their own. City kept up the work rate, but Colchester was just that bit quicker to each ball and their slick passing allowed them to cut through the city defence several more times before half time. City went into the 2nd half determined to get back into the game, but despite a valiant effort from the whole team, Colchester continued to dominate and had added several more to their goal tally by the full time whistle, finishing with 7 goals to City’s 1.

L (1-9) 05/11/2022 - W5 vs Broadland 1 (A / L) TAKING ON TOP OF THE LEAGUE |

WOMENS 5TH XI - 05/11/2022 VS BROADLAND 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 5th XI DATE: 05/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 5th XI VS 05/11/2022 HEADLINE: Taking on top of the league LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 3 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Taverham RESULT: L: 1-9 REPORT: Broadland 1’s we expected a tough game, we started a bit slow and defensively, defenders Alli, Netty, Rose and Bev did a fab job of marking. Midfield players Marie, Chloe, Sofia and Frankie worked tirelessly to help defend and drive the ball out. The skill and reverse aerial strikes were hard to stop the ball hitting the back of the net and the score at half time was 7-0. After a team talk from Nathan and shift of positions, we came out much stronger and on the attack, a great drive down the right hand side by Marie and into the D, a pass to Esme who then slipped it left to Amy who was awaiting on the far post and slotted it in past the keeper. Some more great runs from Victoria, Amy, Frankie, Esme and Chloe but no more goals for City. Broadland kept up the pressure and kept the defence and POTM keeper Jo busy. Final score 9-1, could have been much higher, but the great teamwork and tireless efforts from everyone kept the score in single digits. Big thanks to Frankie and Victoria helping us out this week and Nathan we couldn’t have done it without you, thank you.

L (1-2) 05/11/2022 - W6 vs Herlings 1 (A / L) A HARD BATTLE WELL FOUGHT |
---|
WOMENS 6TH XI - 05/11/2022 VS HERLINGS 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 05/11/2022 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 05/11/2022 HEADLINE: A Hard Battle Well Fought LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Breckland Leisure Center RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: The Womens 6s travelled to the Breckland Leisure Center to face the formidable Herlings 1s. The City team was depleted having lost a few of their core players. But luckily for them, several players from the Womens 7s stepped up to help them out. In the first half, City kept their formation well and made some good passes. There were opportunities at both ends, however, none of them was successful. Herlings made some good opportunities for themselves, with some extremely hard hits towards the City goal. During one opportunity they had a shot from the right-hand side of the goal which Sam inadvertently deflected off the keeper's pads and into the goal. It was a cracking deflection - just in the wrong goal! Luckily for City, this goal didn't count, as none of the Herlings players touched the ball inside the D. The first half ended 0-0. City, got off to a good start in the second half, scoring fairly early on. A beautiful interception by Kate outside the opposition's D, a sublime pass to Liz Hollis who as ever was ready and waiting in the D, followed by an amazing shot at goal. City's joy was short-lived however, as Herlings then scored after 5 mins. City tried to hold on as best as we could,. We still had several chances at the Herling's goal, but never put their keeper under pressure. All it took for Herlings to take a win was one more straight strike towards the City goal, which they did. City kept battling to the very end, making some good runs into the D, but we just couldn't find a shot at goal. Final score 2-1 to Herlings, Kate won POTM. Thank you to Sarah and Katie Smith, and Rebecca Morton who came up from the 7s to help us out today. We could not have played without you guys, and you all made a fantastic effort and were a real asset to the team. We don't do DOTD in the womens 6s but if we did I know who I'd vote for ;)

W (5-3) 06/11/2022 - M1 vs Lichfield 1 (H / L) RAINING GOALS AT TAVERHAM AS MEN'S 1S GO TWO FROM TWO AT HOME! |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 06/11/2022 VS LICHFIELD 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 06/11/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 06/11/2022 HEADLINE: Raining Goals At Taverham As Men's 1s Go Two From Two At Home! LEAGUE: CONFERENCE MIDLANDS VENUE: Taverham Recreational Facility RESULT: 5-3 W REPORT: The mood in camp was good, a big point against a feared opposition the previous week and the luxury of back to back home games. Lichfield didnt have this luxury and made the 170mile journey to Norfolk and were met with an almighty downpour. Harry Brown had the mop out before pushback as a puddle had appeared in the far corner. The first 3 minutes were dominated by City, Lichfield barely touching the ball despite them taking pushback. 3 D entries later and we made it count with Tom Cooke finding Louis Preston on the baseline who carried towards goal and passed to Josh Baker for an cool finish from the p-spot for a deserved 1 goal lead. Lichfield continued to struggle to get used to the unusually fast Taverham pitch that had become a full waterbase from the previous 2 days rain and with City forcing numerous turnovers in Lichfields half they were forcing save after save from the Lichfield keeper but he was equal to both Harry Gill & Cameron Cooke's attempts. Lichfield did slowly come back into the game and won a short corner and with a drag low into the left corner had equalised and left us to rue the earlier missed chances. Thankfully directly after pushback we won our own short corner and Thomas Cooke slid it through the keepers legs to restore the 1 goal lead 60 seconds later. Q1 ended 2-1 to City. The 2nd quarter saw lots of diving in from City and Control of the game slipping away. 4 short corners conceded but Alastair Cooke was on hand to save them all. After Lichfields period of dominance but no result City had there own. Josh Baker had a reverse hit saved, Harry Gill made a great run through before a 1-2 with Chris Wardale but then sent the ball over the bar and then Ben Chapman found himself In behind from a Tom Cooke aerial but his pass didn't quite fall to Chris Wardale at the back post. HT: 2-1 City. Similar to 1st Quarter the first few minutes were all City. Louis Preston found Cam Cooke to charge through the midfield before passing to Josh Baker in the D who drew the keeper out before squaring the ball to Ben Chapman for an easy finish and a 2 goal lead. Louis turned over another ball and found Cam Cooke once again, he raced through to have a 1 on 1 with the keeper and the rebound fell to Josh Baker who put it goalbound (and over the line, as admitted by Lichfield afterwards) but it wasn't given. Lichfield won another short corner but Alastair Cooke continued to be equal to them. Then, pretty much a copy to the 3rd goal earlier in the quarter, just a change in personnel: turnover from Harry Gill, Harry ran through to find Josh Baker and Josh Baker passed around the keeper to Chris wardale who had the easy finish this time. Q3 ended 4-1. Q4 started calmly but Lichfield slowly grew into it and began to build some chances. After some missed shots they won a short and dragged themselves back into the game: 4-2. Whether complacency or tiredness City began to pass & move with much less pace and invited more and more pressure. And after the midfield failed to track a quickly taken long corner, Lichfield had an open reverse at the top of the D and it was 4-3. Lichfield well and truly back in it. Thankfully 60 seconds later Elliot Hibell on his home debut found Cam Cooke just outside the D who lifted over the keeper into the top left corner to restore the 2 goal lead and end Lichfields momentum. City saw out the remaining 4 minutes comfortably and Lichfield got frustrated, picking up a green card late on for chat to the umpire. A 5-3 win, 2 from 2 at home and a great one for the neutral with plenty action even with the dismal conditions. Thank you to all who did brave the downpour to support.

MENS 3RD XI - 05/11/2022 VS SUDBURY 1 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 05/11/2022 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 05/11/2022 HEADLINE: Youth and debutants shine LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Sudbury RESULT: City 2-5?Sudbury REPORT: Simon Begin forwarded message: From: James Taylor <taylorj1907@gmail.com> Date: 5 November 2022 at 16:24:47 GMT To: Simon Black <sajstjmb@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Saturday 5/11/22 Match report: First things first, Sudbury is a long journey in Jim’s minibus where the boot sounds like it’s going to fly open at any time! But to Sudbury we went, the a team of exactly 11, not a substitute in sight. The pitch was good, James’ 2 goals were really good, and Jack’s head height cross was really really good! Keeper Seb’s performance in goal was outstanding, skipper Simon ‘s green card: not as much. Considering the task we faced, the team played very well, getting better as the game went on. Charlie had a great game in midfield, Jason was calm and collected in midfield, and Sam was combative and creative at left back. Despite the loss, it was a performance we can take positives out of, and a performance we can be proud of. Well done lads!
