WOMENS 1ST XI - 05/03/2023 VS LETCHWORTH 1 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 05/03/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 05/03/2023 HEADLINE: City Back to Winning Ways LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: TRF RESULT: 3-0 REPORT: After sharing the spoils with St Albans on Saturday, City wanted to get back to winning ways and be mathematically safe from relegation if they beat Letchworth. City started well, pressuring the Letchworth defence and having all the possession but couldn’t find an opener. City were unlucky not to have been awarded a flick after some great work by Micayla Tootill but her reverse shot was blocked by an unseen foot on the line. The deadlock was as finally broken when Ellie Brine tackled a letchworth defender on the top of the D and her following reverse pass was met by Stacey Lee for a nice deflection at the near post. City continued to pressure the Letchworth defence, and in similar fashion, a sliding pass by Emily Francis across the goal mouth found Lee at the far post for another deflection. Half-Time 2-0. Within seconds of the restart, City won possession of the ball and a lovely one-two between Tootill and Krystal Bishop, led to Tootill finally getting her goal with a slap shot passing the onrushing goalie. City continued to press for more goals but Letchworth defended well. Full time 3-0. Overall a solid performance by City, who hope to continue this form into next weeks game against Sudbury. POM was awarded to Libby Thorne for her solid defending and drives going forward despite still recovering from a recent concussion.

WOMENS 3RD XI - 04/03/2023 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 04/03/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 04/03/2023 HEADLINE: Local derby LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: LOST 0-1 REPORT: City 3s were determined to get a win after beating Harleston Magpies 3s earlier on in the season. The first half started with lots of even play, however, after 20 minutes, Magpies 3s got a goal from open play. We continued to push forward as a team, trying to keep possession and provide some opportunities for a goal. After an encouraging team talk at half time from coach Ali Wardale, Chris and Thomas Cooke we went into the second half with positivity and determination. City 3s had most of the possession in the second half and were hopeful to win a goal back. Time was against us in the final 10 minutes and after several short corners we couldn’t secure a goal for a draw. An unfortunate result for city 3s but an amazing work rate in the second half from the entire team which is a positive to take with us into next weeks game. Final score 0-1 to Magpies. POTM Lucy McNarry.

Dragons started strong and pressed hard in our half and put us under pressure, defenders Alli, Jess, Sam, Millie and Emma stayed strong, Chloe distributed some great balls out to the wing, picked up by Bev, connecting well with Anna and Alice Hood. Great to have Marie back who played some great balls onto the forwards. A short corner was given to Dragons just at the half time whistle, determined to keep the score 0-0 keeper Jo cleared the ball out of the D. Half time talk by coach Ali, we came out strong and pushed up more. Sophie winning some great tackles, Alice B doing some great runs, Rose was strong on the left and had a shot on goal, saved by the keeper. The opposition continued to challenge our defence, City didn’t give up, defending short corners well, Amelie did great job running number 1, Alli great save off the line and POTM Jo Di-Corpo was kept busy. City stayed strong continued to push but Dragon’s perseverance paid off, passing the ball about the D and slotting it past us into the back of the net. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: Hertismere college, Diss RESULT: Draw 1-1 REPORT: It was a grey and miserable morning, and we thought we had a tough game ahead playing third in the league but we were determined to give it our all and see if we could put the cat amongst the pigeons. City had anticipated a heavy loss - and we were 1 nil up!! Half time came and went, and we help Diss at bay; until the final 8 minutes when a nice strike on goal saw Diss equalize from a short corner. W (4-2) 05/03/2023 - M1 vs City of Peterborough 1 (H / L) TIGHT AFFAIR AS 3RD FACED 4TH IN CONFERENCE MIDLANDS |
---|
MENS 1ST XI - 05/03/2023 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 05/03/2023 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 05/03/2023 HEADLINE: Tight affair as 3rd faced 4th In Conference Midlands LEAGUE: CONFERENCE MIDLANDS VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 4-2 W REPORT: Back to back huge encounters at Taverham. After last weeks 10 goal thriller for 2nd v 3rd it was now 3rd v 4th. Peterbrough were on hot form having put 7 past Magpies there was a definite awareness of the threat they possessed. Time for Norwich to keep the losing streak to just the one match. Both sides started well with neither allowing many D entries and both keepers nets staying empty. It took until the 12th minute for Josh Baker to create the first threat when he burst through the right hand side of the D and hit a reverse into the near post. The Peterborough keeper was unable to get there and it nestled in to open the scoring. The Peterborugh midfield began to take over and with a few short corner wins they were looking very threatening but thankfully Alastair Cooke was equal to both drags from their captain and the scoreline remained 1-0 to finish the quarter. The 2nd quarter continued with the same dominance from Peterborugh, they had all the territory but just couldn't make it pay. Norwich defending resolutely to stay ahead. Unfortunately with their 3rd short corner Peterborough did finally put one away and leveled the tie up. Back to back shots from Cameron Cooke were well saved and it was starting to not look like Norwich's day. This was confirmed when Peterborugh won their 4th short and scored again, the peterborugh dominance was taken further with a yellow card to Elliot Hibell after he brought his stick above head height to a play the ball and caught a peterborugh player on the head and opened up an old wound from a few weeks ago and the blood came pouring out. Thankfully Peterbrough were kind enough to get a yellow of their own a few minutes later to mean we were not left shorthanded for too long. HT: 1-2 to Peterbrough. As the 2nd half begun Norwich had a couple minutes a man up but couldn't make it pay. It took another 10 minutes get them to do that as Louis Preston won a foul and took it quickly before finding Elliot Hibell in the D who passed to Chris Wardale who smartly went round the keeper and hit from the baseline to bring the score back to Parity. Q3 ended 2-2. A rousing team talk to empower the lads to go all out for the win was taken on board and within 20 seconds of pushback it was 3-2. It went back to the defence from pushback before Tom Cooke picked the ball up and ran wide to find Jonty Black down the right wing who cut inside and neatly lifted past 3 defenders and played in Josh Baker who deflected the ball through the keepers legs for a superbly worked team goal. Peterborugh came back with all they had but Alastair Cooke kept them at bay with a open play save and short corner save. Harry Gill stopped a short corner drag as #1 runner and then Harry Brown excellently scopped a rebound hit at shoulder height over the bar. The chance after chance but no goal was evidently getting Peterborugh frustrated as they picked up a few cards for break downs in play. One of those came as Elliot Hibell made a turnover in our D, immediately won a free hit and stepped off to let Krishna Patel take a quick aerial and after the Peterbough CB misjudged it Ben Chapman was through 1-on-1 to close out the game. He calmly faked left and took it right round the keeper to forehand hit past the late ariving defender who couldn't arrive in time. 4-2 finish. Underwhelming wst half for Norwich but kept their nerve and calmly took over control before getting the goals to complete the comeback. Superb display of resilience and with a Uni of Nottingham loss saw Norwich move up to 2nd.

D (2-2) 04/03/2023 - M3 vs University of East Anglia 2 (A / L) UNBEATEN RUN EXTENDS TO 6 GAMES, BUT ONLY JUST |
---|
MENS 3RD XI - 04/03/2023 VS UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA 2 (A) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 04/03/2023 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 04/03/2023 HEADLINE: Unbeaten run extends to 6 games, but only just LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: Norwich knew this fixture was going to be tough, and with a depleted squad and some guest appearances thrown in, City’s unbeaten run looked in jeopardy. City found themselves under pressure right from the start, with UEA pressing hard into the Norwich half, it appeared like it was going to be a long afternoon. Composure was needed, and composure was presented. Although the hosts mustered multiple chances, the team held firm making it to half time 0-0. HT 0-0. UEA started the second half similar to the first, creating chance after chance but could not find a way through the Norwich keeper. Finally, on the 51st minute, a break away goal enabled the hosts to go 1-0 up. Jubilation for the students, who would now surely go on to take further goals and consolidate their lead. Alas, it was not to be. Five minutes later, Mark Fletcher brought us level. Norwich had a second chance. If the equaliser wasn’t a miracle in it’s own right, the next goal would be. Only two minutes later, Norwich took the lead with Corey Rushton smashing past the UEA keeper. Scenes of utter disbelief shook the pitch. Norwich now had some breathing space, albeit the smallest of margins. And that breathing space left the us not long after, with a nice deflection from a short corner finding its way into the top of the net, UEA drew level at 2-2. As the game drew to a close, special mentions ought to go to the Norwich defence and keeper who played out of their skin to keep City from losing this game. All in all, a solid team performance where Norwich can say that got something from a game that looked so far away from them. FT 2-2. Player of the match: Tom Franks
