W (5-0) 03/10/2020 - W1 vs City of Peterborough 2 (H / L) NORWICH CITY WOMEN’S 1S WINNING START TO DIV 1N CONTINUES |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 03/10/2020 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Norwich City Women’s 1s winning start to Div 1N continues LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: TRF RESULT: 5-0 WIN REPORT: Following a delayed start due to a lack of umpire (thanks Joe for standing in!) City struggled to get into their usual flow and linking play. Peterborough 2s were keen from the start and were not going to let us run the show. They made City work hard for the first 15 minutes however City’s defensive unit made up of Hannah Jarvis, Micayla Tootill, Susie Edwards and Harriet Preston kept Peterborough at bay with some solid tackling and timely interceptions helped by goalkeeper Summer Haylocks continuous communication. Norwich’s midfielders and forwards knuckled down and worked hard to push the play back into Peterboroughs 25 and soon won City’s first short corner. Oli Williams pulled out her drag flick piece but couldn’t quite complete. City’s first goal came soon after from a sneaky Krystal Bishop interception, casually stealing the ball from a Peterborough defender at their 16 with a lovely reverse take and slotted home, 1-0 Norwich City. City’s second goal came from some excellent midfield and forward work. The tirelessly working midfield line of Felicity Williams, Alice Gill, Jo Staines, Sophie Mullan and Ellie Brine linked well with some skillful hockey leading to a textbook finish from Oli Williams, 2-0. City started the second half in control having upper the tempo and settled into their stride. City’s forward line (Rosie Ringer, Stacey Lee, Oli Williams and Krystal Bishop) continued to press hard putting pressure on Peterborough’s defense leading to City’s third goal. A well practiced short corner routine - a strong and precise ball in from Felicity Williams finished with an Ellie Brine deflection, 3-0. Peterborough pushed players high looking for a break up the pitch however City weren’t letting them thorough. Great midfield hassling and strength from Alice Gill and Sophie Mullan kept City camped in Peterborough’s half. Another City short corner with Krystal Bishop firing the ball across the D to waiting City players, ball stopped by Oli Williams and finished by Micayla Tootill with a strong reverse stick sweep, 4-0. Credit to Peterborough who continued to attack and forced City to concede a short corner. City made light work of this turning the ball over quickly as they so often do. Play was pushed back up the pitch with some great linking play from the back which led to City’s fifth goal. A great finish from Stacey Lee assisted from Oli Williams via Felicity Williams and Jo Staines. Solid team effort. POM - Susie Edwards

W (2-1) 03/10/2020 - W2 vs Bury St Edmunds 2 (H / L) SHEER DETERMINATION... |
---|
WOMENS 2ND XI - 03/10/2020 VS BURY ST EDMUNDS 2 (H) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Sheer determination... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: A damp and drizzly Saturday morning saw City gather for their second league game of the season. Having played Bury in a friendly a few weeks earlier everyone was confident that this would be the first three points of the season. After a great warm up routine again from Emily they headed out… For some reason it was not the most positive start for City. Bury managed to upset City’s flow and prevented them from settling into their usual confident pattern of play, putting them under pressure to make some possession mistakes from early on. It took a while for City to get themselves organised and whilst Bury never overly threatened the defence or keeper there were a few moments that could have seen Bury score but with Millie making some decisive saves, they soaked up the pressure. As City started to get their act together, strong defensive play, turnovers in the midfield and the forward line starting to gel, it saw them start to put Bury under pressure. Several short corners were awarded but they were unable to convert until a change in routine; with a left slip and a perfectly timed, slick shot from Helen, the ball sliced into the bottom right corner of the goal, the keeper just didn’t see it coming. A positive boost to a shaky start. The half time talk was good but the advice was not initially heeded. Knowing that Bury would come out fighting hard to pull things back again City still seemed a bit unsure of themselves allowing Bury to have more of the ball than they deserved. Whilst the defence stood firm for the majority of the play, a momentary loss of composure allowed Bury to come back into the game. They penetrated the D and after an initial save from Millie, the follow up shot coupled with an unlucky bounce and deflection saw them pull it back to 1-1. Bury’s goal only served to fuel City’s determination more than ever to not lose this game and they dug deep into their reserves to close down Bury at every opportunity. The defence held strong stopping Bury from using the wings and after some scrappy tussles in the midfield City started to use their strength and fitness to create some lovely passages of play continually pushing Bury back into their 23. Bury loaded their defence and City were unable to finish several of the chances they had to score but they never gave up and their determination continuously tested the Bury keeper. Constant pressure from City’s forwards paid off when a rebounded shot on goal from Emily, was in no uncertain terms followed up by Helen who smashed it into the goal. With a 2-1 lead and not much time to go it was now up to City to tactically control the game and not allow Bury to play; urgency slowed, possession and tactics stepped in with Niamh and Emma successfully ‘playing’ the corners as the time counted down. Whilst perhaps not the prettiest way to finish a game, it served a purpose and at the end of the day a win is a win! So, City secured their first three points of the season though sheer determination to never give up, to work through all their mistakes and to endlessly support each other whatever. A great team effort.

L (0-6) 03/10/2020 - W3 vs Ipswich 2 (A / L) A BLEAK MORNING FOR HOCKEY |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 03/10/2020 VS IPSWICH 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: A bleak morning for hockey LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Tuddenham Road RESULT: 0-6 REPORT: Another moist Saturday morning greeted NCHC L3's, with the weather being so bleak we had the pitch lights on at 10am in the morning! The squad, although missing a number of key players from the forward and midfield line up, were heroically boosted by Lucy Walton and Jess Balls from the L4's. Both had strong games throughout and we really appreciated them joining us on a raining and frankly pretty miserable early morning! We knew from the outset that this game was going to be a tough one. Ipswich 2's are never far from the top of the L3's new division and it was clear that they were well drilled from the outset. They also had many subs and we only had one! Despite this being the case, the tempo stayed high from City, with multiple runs from Emily Leeming, Lauren Lawrie, and Jenni Czerwinski, all of whom demonstrated great stick skills and dedication to the attack. Ipswich played fast one touch hockey throughout, and their well drilled high press made it very difficult to break their attacking line, however there was some exceptional play from Karen Dagless, Sabina Baker and Mia Edmonds. Finding ourselves 4-0 at half time did little to dampen our spirits. It was clear Ipswich had the upper hand and some wise words from Karren Dagless enabled us to return to the pitch full of beans and keen to use the rest of the match to think about our match play and learn from the game in hand. As a result the second half was much stronger and slicker! Sadly, Gabby Sharp, who's game had been exceptional up to this point, committed to a 50/50 ball, which ended up with both her and the Ipswich player wiping out and ending up face down on the pitch. Unfortunately, Gabby Sharp came off worse and damaged her shoulder, being taken to A&E by her amazing Mum. We are gutted that Gabby will probably be out for a while, and can't wait for her to join us on the pitch again when she it match fit. Player of the match was Mia Edmonds We ended the game 6-0, but still really proud of our performance. We had some good game play and are ready for next week to carry on our steady improvements on the pitch. GO L3's!!!!!!

WOMENS 4TH XI - 03/10/2020 VS REEPHAM 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 4th XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 4th XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: VICTORY OVER REEPHAM LEAGUE: NORFOLK PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TAVERHAM RESULT: CITY WIN 5-4 REPORT: Despite the drizzly weather it was a well fought and great game of hockey played by both NCHCs W4s and Reepham W1...a game of goals for both sides. Norwich City came back fighting after Reepham kick started the game with a goal early on which was closely followed by a great pass to Mollae Scott on the wing which resulted in our first game of the goal. it was equal. Lots of great passes wide round the back from Lydia Baumber-Ellis to Gillian Allen and to our halves Abi Hill and Sue Tomlinson enabled us to use our forwards well with Lucy McNarry doing amazing runs down the right wing and also Mollae Scott of the left wing. After a second goal from Reepham it was 2-1 at half time. City were determined to turn it around and they did, and it was a second half of goals for both teams. City defended the short corners well and pressed hard and with great runs from Maria Marsh too another 2 goals came from Mollae Scott and Lucy Jenkinson to bring the final score to 5-4 to City. A great game womens.

LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 1 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: RESULT: REPORT: Norwich City started excellently with some brilliant passing and communication. Herlings started off very well, however confident defending from Emma Guyton, Allison MCellan and Annette Peters led too City’s first goal from Matilda Hill, assisted by Amy Hinchliffe. City continued to put their training practice into game play and scored another goal from a short corner by Lucy Wimhurst. Herlings took advantage of an opportunity and scored a goal. Followed by lots more hard work and determination from City in all areas of the field they earned 3 more goals from Sophie Bush, Millie Wimhursr and another from Lucy Wimhurst. Overall an incredible performance from everybody!

WOMENS 6TH XI - 03/10/2020 VS PELICANS 3 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Close call LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 2 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE:Taverham RESULT: 2 - 2 REPORT: A tough start the game against Pelicans 3, with the result at half time being 2 -0 to them. Jo Di-Corpo was hard pressed as goalie with a couple of one on one's and a penalty flick. Without her control in defense we would have been a lot worse off. After half time team talk the womens turned the tables quickly and gave a lot of pressure on the oppositions D. Although having a slit knock on the head with a ball, Ellis Couzins scored our two equalisers. One assisted by Emily Winter, the other by Esther Hamilton. Overall, second have was a great improvement and POTM Rose Byrne played a vital role in feeding and controlling the ball and play throughout. Without her forward thinking and pass precision we wouldn't have been able to attack as we did.

---|
WOMENS 7TH XI - 03/10/2020 VS DEREHAM 5 (H) TEAM: Womens 7th XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens 7th XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: A Frustrating Loss for City 7s LEAGUE: NORFOLK LEAGUE DIVISION 3 LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: TRF RESULT: 6-2 Loss REPORT: A youthful and strong Dereham team started the game well and soon took the lead. City were slow off the mark but soon settled down and their game play improved. The first half ended 2-0 to Dereham. A positive half time talk from Ali Wardale raised City spirits and they started the second half the stronger team. Some excellent team work led to City quickly bringing the score even. Some great defensive work and good saves from the Dereham keeper prevented City adding to the score sheet. Some defensive errors and lapses in concentration from City allowed Dereham to score again and this gave them a boost in confidence and they went on to score more goals leaving the final score at 6-2. City fought hard against a young, strong and fast Dereham side and were unlucky not to score more goals. City have positives to take from the game and also lots of things to keep working on in training. POTM went to Lauren O'Hanlon, very well deserved!

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT XI - 03/10/2020 VS NORWICH DRAGONS A (A) TEAM: Womens Development XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Womens Development XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Ten goals for City girls! LEAGUE: NORFOLK DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LEAGUE SPONSORS: EMPRESA LIMITED VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 10-0 win REPORT: Norwich City girls started strongly with some excellent runs down the right wing by Chloe Holmes. Dragons also made some early attacks but confident defending, especially by Poppy Scott, kept Dragons away from the City goal. City’s first goal was a good team effort with lots of shots blocked well by the Dragon’s keeper but eventually India Fox scored. Dragons made some good attacks to earn a penalty corner but this was cleared strongly by Millie Power. City then controlled the game after a second goal, this time from Grace Hanworth-Knights. Mirabelle Harden and Olivia Kazimierczak scored City’s 3rd and 4th goals. Norwich City continued their strong attacks in the second half with good passing between Alice Brown and Emily Morton on the left. Grace Hanworth-Knights added three more goals and India Fox scored her second. Isabelle Brandford scored her first goal with an amazing shot smashed high into the net. W (4-3) 03/10/2020 - M1 vs Dereham 1 (H / L) CITY MAKE IT 2 WINS FROM 2 WITH ANOTHER 7 GOAL THRILLER |

MENS 1ST XI - 03/10/2020 VS DEREHAM 1 (H) TEAM: Mens 1st XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 1st XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: City Make It 2 Wins From 2 With Another 7 Goal Thriller LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION A VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 4-3 REPORT: After last week’s terrible weather to open the season, we went into today’s game with a beautiful patch of dryness gracing us. A much slower start in comparison to last week but city once again starting the stronger, dominating early possession and territory. Despite a few chances from Harry Gill, Jack Ingham & Cameron Cooke, we couldn't make our dominance pay. Unfortunately Dereham took a free hit quickly bombed down the right hand side to the baseline and played a ball straight to the P-spot for an easy deadlock breaker midway through the first half. We didn’t let this slow us down, we once again prioritised possession and slowly built attacks, growing in danger over each and every minute. Our determination rewarded, as we finally get one in the back of the net in the 30th minute. An aerial from Thomas Cooke was sent over half the pitch, perfectly touched down on the volley by Cam Cooke, straight into harry gill running through, who calmly moved the goalkeeper away from his goal and slammed the ball past the remaining defender on the line. 1-1 HT. With our 3rd Short Corner of the game Tom Cooke took the ball right from the castle and with a lovely hit into the opposite bottom corner we had the lead. Quickly followed by some slick play from Tom Harris and Felix Broadway to get the ball to Harry Gill who cut inside from the left dropped the back into Cam Cooke in the D who proceeded to round the goalkeeper, take his time to open the best angle and roof it home. 3-1. Our glory was short lived as Dereham got their only 2 Shorts of the game and punished us with both, slightly undeserved comeback but proof of why dropping our focus for 5 minutes can be deadly. Great work from Thomas Cooke, Felix Broadway and Tom Harris as our defensive inners to nullify the late Dereham attacks and regain control and wit a minute to go Chris Wardle slightly fortunate to get an advantage off his thigh and foot but you you make your own luck and he hammered it home for a well-deserved 3 pts. Once again leaving it to the last attack of the game but maximum pts achieved from 2 home games. We’ve definitely made it harder than they needed to be but can’t complain with 6 points and bring on the first of many away trips next week to Peterborough.

MENS 2ND XI - 03/10/2020 VS CITY OF PETERBOROUGH 4 (A) TEAM: Mens 2nd XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 2nd XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Worth the wait... LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH VENUE: Bretton Gate RESULT: 7-2 Win REPORT: Following last weeks postponement City were more than up for their first league game of the season away to City of Peterborough 4s. A strong 15 man squad travelled on a horrible wet afternoon. City started well shifting the ball around well and creating several half chances. However following the umpire missing a foul on the half way line then awarding incorrectly a penalty corner against City the home side took the lead. However less than 5 minutes later a beautiful ball put in by Josh Bailey was deflected home by Richard Silvester. City then took control of the game moving the ball around at great speed creating several chances along the way. Rafe Lochore fired home a low strike to give City the lead before Mikey Thompson added a third from a penalty corner. It was 4-1 before half time when Mikey added his fourth from a tight angle. After the break City continued their dominance moving the ball around well but were once again in done by a Peterborough corner. 4-2 City didnt let this setback disrupt their hockey as Lochore added a fifth with a great reverse stick strike. Thompson completed his hattrick following another excellent finish before a brilliant team goal was deflected home by Will Kidner to finish the scoring. Full time a great team performance resulting in a 7-2 Win. POTM: Mikey T (Goals plus great movement up front)

MENS 3RD XI - 03/10/2020 VS COLCHESTER 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 03/10/2020 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 03/10/2020 HEADLINE: Full squad reap rewards LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: City 3s 4 - 1 Colchester 2s REPORT: A strong 3rd team gathered pitch side waiting to welcome Colchester to a rather damp Taverham. With a full squad of 16 skipper Simon Black rustled up a plan to keep the away side busy. City settled quickly and looked threatening from the start. Rees Leonard got the ball rolling early on and city could have strengthened their position but for a few missed half chances and one that was definitely harder to miss from Jez Elliott. City were made to pay as the quick start faded a little. Colchester grabbing an equaliser to be level at 1-1 going into the break. The second half was better with Colchester rarely threatening thanks to great defensive work from the skipper, Adam Sayer , Ed Taylor, Will Riddleston and Henry Baker. We do have to question how Will did not see green for hitting the ball away twice! Adie Land managed to restore the lead after beating his man and sending a high lift in the rough direction of the goal that was deflected thanks to a Colchester stick. The lead could have grown after a lovely break and pass from Monty Platt but Rees' trusty reverse was off target on this occasion. City now looked more dangerous as the young midfield showed their quality. A fine through ball was converted cooly by Freddie Paterson to extend the advantage before Jez and Adie combined to secure a 4th after a well-called and well-executed short corner. A decent result from a decent performance in not so decent weather! Onto next week and a trip to Bury who also have a 100% record from the first two games.

LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST VENUE: Dragons Den RESULT: 1-1 REPORT: Following last weeks defeat to the Mens 3rd XI City were determined to take confidence to their local rivals Dragons. Starting well City played some excellent hockey and created numerous chances well saved by the Dragons keeper. Eventually however a Max Wilson strike found the goal and City led 1-0 at the break. The game evened out a little into the second half with both teams creating chances, Dragons unfortunately took one of their chances and the game finished all square. Disappointing result for City who on the whole created far more chances.

The first half started strong with City scoring early, thanks to a hard press by Tim Armstrong. City continued to press, which resulted in short corners being awarded which City capitalised on. Newmarket responded with a fiery attack, this resulted in a short corner being given - Newmarket delivered a crisp, clean strike and scored. The next 15 minutes were fairly end to end and City managed to score another two goals by Joe Holden and Matthew Brine, resulting in the first half finishing 4-1. The second half started strong and City scored early. A breakdown of City play resulted in Newmarket scoring again. City responded with a strong period of attack, Tom Cooper was beautifully positioned to take advantage and extend the City lead. Tim Armstrong took another fierce attack against Newmarket and achieved his hat trick for the day. The game finished 6-3 to Norwich, who fought to the end. A good game for Norwich, a positive performance to carry forward to next week. However, Luke Keeley is unlikely to be able to join us next week due to suffering a knee injury during the match. The City family wish Luke a speedy recovery and hope to see him on the pitch again soon.

The hockey wasn't quite so fluent in the second period North Norfolk creating chances of their own which were repelled by the defence and man of the match keeper Tom Line. City did create further chances two of which were converted by David Beake and Louis Miller. North Norfolk were rewarded at the death when they were awarded a penalty stroke which was expertly converted by one of their youngsters.
