W (2-0) 02/04/2023 - W1 vs Letchworth 1 (A / L) 6 POINT WEEKENDER |
---|
WOMENS 1ST XI - 02/04/2023 VS LETCHWORTH 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 1st XI DATE: 02/04/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 1st XI VS 02/04/2023 HEADLINE: 6 point Weekender LEAGUE: EAST PREMIER DIVISION VENUE: Letchworth Hockey Club RESULT: 2-0 REPORT: City womens 1s travelled to Letchworth for the final game of the 2022/2023 season. Still on a high from Saturdays great team performance, City were determined for a 6 point double header. Starting with a attacking formation from the first whistle saw city score within the first couple of minutes. Hanna Hall drove the ball around the base line with Nikki Ralph netting the inside pass. 1-0, grins contagiously circuiting the city team and thoughts of this how many could we get?! Attack, after attack, with great built up play from the half backs of Harriet Preston and Fongy, Flic Williams and Lucy Walton completely controlling the middle ground with superb tackles and absolute fireballs of passes to the forward line of Oli Williams, Krystal Bishop, Rosie Ringer and Sophie Bendon, one of which saw Krystal Bishop lop the Keeper 2-0 within the next few minutes. City continued to push forward, maybe a little too ambitiously and a little too impatiently at times, but it proved hard to find space for any movement or shots in a very jam packed Letchworth area. A applaudable performance from Letchworths keeper even managed to keep Micayal Toothills shots clear from the back board, a very brave lady indeed. At the opposite end of the pitch George Barrett saw no sight or sound of the match ball for the entire game, but was with the team as usual with great communication and encouragement throughout. City maintained 99% of the possession for the second half, numerous opportunities for lots of goals but unfortunately no more conversions. A journey worth making for a final 6 point weekend, taking us to a final position of 4th in the league. More in the tank for next season ? Most definitely YES, let’s set our sights and ambitions high and follow on in the men’s fantastic example for next season. Well done lads, a true inspiration to everyone involved at the

WOMENS 2ND XI - 01/04/2023 VS CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY 2 (A) TEAM: Womens 2nd XI DATE: 01/04/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 2nd XI VS 01/04/2023 HEADLINE: Newly promoted 2s finish 5th! LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 1 NORTH VENUE: Cambridge RESULT:1-1 draw Norwich womens twos travelled to Cambridge University for a late afternoon game ready to take on the last game of the season. Both teams came out strong with a fast pace game from the start with end to end play. Norwich were working well together with lots of great runs from the forward line-Charlie Hudson-Madge, Sophie Bendon, Rosie Ringer and Grace Hanworth-Knights with a number of shots on goal but with near misses. Captain, Georgia Cleveland holding the middle with Lauren Lawrie as our screens cutting out passes and moving the ball round well with the midfield- Emma Hewitt, Emily Leeming and Emily Francis. Norwich defence were kept on their toes as Cambridge attacked with speed. The back line working really well together with Hannah Jarvis holding the middle along with Leigh-Ann Worrall, Uma Patel & India Fox. After a number of great saves by Summer Haylock and great defence from the Norwich side Cambridge were able to get a deflection past making the score line 1-0 at half time. Norwich knew they were doing some great stuff but also knew we can do more. So came back strong in the second half with quick passing around the back & up the line creating lots of team attacks again with near misses from the forward line. There was a change of formation giving us a push to get that goal back. Norwich passing well around the mid field with Helen Harper & Emily Francis making runs toward the 25. Sophie Bendon dibbled the ball into the D and turned onto her reverse, taking a shot & hitting top right hand corner to make the score 1-1. The whole game was back and forth with both teams holding several short corners each. No other goals were scored leaving the score line at a draw. A great performance from our womens twos lead by their great captain who has done a wonderful job in placing them in the top half of the league after only being promoted last year. Thank you to all our supported for cheering us on and the traveling! Our team coach Chris for all his hard work. And of course to all the womens within the team, making it a great team!

D (1-1) 01/04/2023 - W3 vs East Coast 1 (A / L) LAST GAME OF THE SEASON |
---|
WOMENS 3RD XI - 01/04/2023 VS EAST COAST 1 (A) TEAM: Womens 3rd XI DATE: 01/04/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 3rd XI VS 01/04/2023 HEADLINE: Last game of the season LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: East Coast RESULT: Drew 1-1 REPORT: City travelled to Lowestoft for their last match of the season. Spirits were high and an excellent warm was led by Chloe Holmes and Hollie Blackham, putting the team in a great position to start the match. From the first whistle the intensity was high and was clear there wasn’t much in it. Some great runs were made by Lucy and Chloe on the wing pushing City high and giving them lots of chances. With great defensive work from Gemma and Jess the team was quick to stop any possible chances of East Coast scoring. Despite Ange ‘The Hurricane’ Hindle’s great pivot of the play in the middle, making short, sharp passes between the front line and back line, East Coast managed to score a goal putting them in front. Our heads remained up and we pushed on. The great support from Longy on the sidelines kept spirits high all match. We kept the pressure on East Coast, forcing them to make mistakes. Time was running out and we were desperate for a goal. The short corner we had was the last play of the game and we knew this had to go in. Hollie Blackham pulled out a powerful slap and Lucy got a convincing touch on it to ensure it landed in the goal to finish the game. What a great season, and what a way to end it. Well done womens 3’s! POTM goes to our little dynamite Chloe

D (1-1) 01/04/2023 - W6 vs Harleston Magpies 7 (H / L) SEEING THE SEASON OUT WITH A HOME DRAW. |

WOMENS 6TH XI - 01/04/2023 VS HARLESTON MAGPIES 7 (H) TEAM: Womens 6th XI DATE: 01/04/2023 FIXTURE: Womens 6th XI VS 01/04/2023 HEADLINE: Seeing the season out with a home draw. LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 4 NORTH EAST (NORTH) VENUE: TRF RESULT: D 1-1 REPORT: The last game of the season, the fullest team we have fielded this year and the best turnout of supporters to egg us all on! We came to the game wanting desperately to end the season on a high and the game didn't disappoint. We went out there, played our hearts out and enjoyed every moment. We passed well, kept our shape and worked well communicating between us and it was this winning formula that saw Saskia storm the right wing, ping the ball in a superb cross to Liz who slotted it in the right of the goal - and we were 1 nil up! Half time came, and we were determined to keep our heads and not get careless, we pulled together to pass better, stronger and faster to try and get that win, but a cross from Harleston and a good touch from their player saw the equalizer in our goal! We didn't give up, we threw everything at it - we ran our heart out, but couldn't quite find their goal. We ended in a draw, but we weren't disappointed. We celebrated our season in style - chocolate cake, cups of tea and good company! Roll on next year - we are coming back stronger.

D (2-2) 01/04/2023 - M3 vs Dereham 2 (H / L) A GOOD DRAW TO END THE SEASON |

MENS 3RD XI - 01/04/2023 VS DEREHAM 2 (H) TEAM: Mens 3rd XI DATE: 01/04/2023 FIXTURE: Mens 3rd XI VS 01/04/2023 HEADLINE: A good draw to end the season LEAGUE: EAST DIVISION 2 NORTH EAST VENUE: Taverham RESULT: 2-2 REPORT: For the last game of the season, Norwich hosted Dereham who were near the top of the table. Dereham had some early pressure and created good chances, forcing Tom Franks to make an excellent save to his left hand side. Unfortunately, Dereham deservedly took the lead mid way through the first half. Norwich grew into the game and equalised when Ethan Rushton scored a tap in after the ball came back off the keeper. At half time the score was 1-1 and Norwich went into the second half focused on composure and simpler hockey. Before Norwich got fully going in the second half, Dereham found a way through again and Norwich went 2-1 down. City didn't give up and Mark Fletcher made it even at 2-2 with a well placed lifted slap into the top left. In the final minutes, Dereham increased the pressure and won several penalty corners but Norwich defended strongly and held out for a well-deserved draw. It was a good performance to end the season and at least Norwich stopped Dereham having a chance of promotion
