WOMENS MASTERS XI - 27/01/2019 VS BISHOPS STORTFORD O45S (A) TEAM: Womens Masters XI DATE: 27/01/2019 FIXTURE: Womens Masters XI VS 27/01/2019 HEADLINE: Great Scott! ...and good team performance against Stortford Women's Masters Our Womens Masters’ squad headed to Bishops Stortford for a battle of the quarter finals of the Over 45’s competition. After a long journey we peeled ourselves out of our cars and negotiated the maze of the College grounds. We were expecting a tough match with Bishops Stortford boasting a 9-0 win in their previous round. The first half started with City venturing into the oppositions 23rd within the first few minutes, then the wind changed and it was belted down the pitch for a foray of failed opportunities for Bishops Stortford. The majority of Stortford’s play was channelled through a couple of players through heavy hitting and hopeful deflections but these were no match for City’s goal keeper Serena Scott (our player of the match with an incredible performance) picking up all angles of shots like ping pong and deflecting them with style. Short corner after short corner was awarded to Bishops Stortford, one flicked away, another one cleared off the line, another one defended away, another cleared away some incredible defending by City. Now, Stortford were gathering pace and with another short corner awarded we had a goal mouth scramble which led to it being pushed over the line by the opposition. We entered half time 0-1 down but heads were high. Quick draw on the oxygen for us and we headed into the second half......... The first 20mins of the second half was predominately in two thirds of the pitch with a constant flow of shots on goal which were belted away. Our mid fielders were pulled back to bridge the gap and keep them at bay it was hard going but enjoyable! With 15mins to go Stortford came on the attack with a high ball pinging high in the air it was brought down by the player on the post, and backed into the keeper slipping it sideways to make it 2-0. Our heads remained high and with grit and determination up the other end it went, with Carey’s neat pass to Nic who was waiting patiently, she beat the defence and slipped it sneakily around the back of Stortford’s keeper. With 11 mins to go, City pushed high and fought hard but unfortunately despite all efforts accepted defeat at 2-1. Thanks to Bishops Stortford for fantastic teas and good luck in the semi-final against Canterbury!

WOMENS MASTERS XI - 18/11/2018 VS CAMBRIDGE CITY O35S (H) TEAM: Womens Masters XI DATE: 18/11/2018 FIXTURE: Womens Masters XI VS 18/11/2018 HEADLINE: Great 1st Round Win! LEAGUE: Womens Masters O35s VENUE: TRF RESULT: 2-1 REPORT: Norwich City Womens Masters O35 team welcomed Cambridge City for the 1st round of the womens masters O35 competition. With a selection of players from City, Loddon, Broadland and North Norfolk meeting and playing for the first time it was going to be an interesting afternoon of hockey! A well drilled Cambridge team applied pressure early, but it was Norwich who turned play around with Fong Chung converting a short corner in the first 10 minutes of play. Cambridge continued to play some great hockey, but City’s midfield worked tirelessly to press preventing Cambridge from breaking through. Sally Bircham was fantastic in defence making crucial tackles to stop Cambridge from scoring. Cambridge were awarded numerous short corners, none off which bothered City’s keeper, Anna Linsmith too much, who was swotting drag flick attempts away like flies. However, on one occasion it did find the back of the net....1-1 and, all to play for. Norwich attacked on the break once again with a long ball from Hanna Hall to Leigh-Ann Worrall who followed the text book into playing a perfect ball into a very composed Lydia Lawrence who beat the keeper in style to put Norwich 2-1 up at half time. The second half saw much of the same with both teams creating opportunities, however the final score remained 2-1. A lovely afternoon of hockey, new friendships made and a second round of the cup to prepare for! Many thanks to Matthew Brine for his very welcome words of encouragement at half time. POTM:Hanna Hall Goals:Pui Fong Chung (1) Lydia Lawrence (1)
